NFRTR data

Thursday, January 3rd, 2019

Someone sent a FOIA request to ATF on the database that tracks machineguns and got this: Pre 86 (transferables): 175,977 Sales Samples (pre May keepers): 17,020 Restricted 922(o) (posties): 297,667

More NFRTR troubles

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

David: Testimony in the case of US v ONE HISTORIC ARMS MACHINE GUN revealed there are untold numbers of unregistered machine guns currently owned by Americans that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives not only knows about, but actually created the conditions whereby this situation exists.

More NFRTR issues

David has another look and notes the danger to gun owners. Another David has more and some experience with this sort of thing.

NFRTR Troubles

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

It’s a topic I’ve addressed a few times. But David notes three suppressors not in the database but there were approved forms and tax stamps. And remember institutionalized perjury is the norm for ATF with respect to the database.: when we testify in court, we testify that the database is 100 percent accurate. That’s what […]

Inaccuracies in the NFRTR

Friday, October 16th, 2009

It’s a recurring theme here but Prince Law Offices says they found the smoking gun: Of particular interest, on this one heavily redacted “Firearms Inspection Worknote”, at least two of the firearms were in the dealers inventory, but “not listed on the inventory list provided by the NFA branch.” In the second box, the agent […]

David Codrea: Why ATF folded in Friesen case

NFRTR har

Monday, April 13th, 2009

David reminds us of ATF’s policy of institutional level lying with respect to data in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

Speaking of the NFRTR database

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

A new member. Guess what I got just in time for Christmas: From Gun Porn Click to embiggen. That’s right, I got an Elf on the Shelf. And a new Gemtech Outback 2 suppressor (you know, for wayward elves). The NFA process for me started in August. And the paperwork was probably sent from Coal […]

More NFRTR Corruption

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Prince Law Offices: In a major victory for those of us arguing that the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR) is insufficient for criminal proceedings, Dr. Fritz Scheuren, ?the? statistician in the United States (possibly the world), today informed the 10th District Court that the NFRTR is insufficient for criminal proceedings. While no decision […]

More ATF trouble with the NFRTR

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

The NFRTR (National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record) is the registry that maintains NFA weapons. So, a guy wants to lawfully buy a machine gun. He finds the gun, plunks down his roughly $15K for an AR and fills out the paperwork. The ATF verifies that the weapon is in the NFRTR and approves. Then, […]

Registration leads to . . .

Thursday, June 8th, 2017

Incompetence, apparently: NFA database seriously flawed OIG asked how often there was a discrepancy between the inventory and what the NFRTR said the inventory should be: 46% of inspectors said either “always” or “most of the time.” (Only 5% reported “never”). How often was the discrepancy found in the NFRTR? 44% said always or most […]

WECSOG: Clean your Gem-Tech Outback II

Sunday, December 28th, 2014

Yeah, yeah. I now know I should have bought one I could take apart. I have one and I hadn’t cleaned it since I bought it. The manual I have says to blow it out with an air compressor or send it back to Gem-Tech when it needs cleaned really bad. I’ve done the air […]

Compliance = Defiance?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

I had a conversation recently in the real world with a gun nut friend in which I basically said that gun rights folks were sort of like prisoners. If you’ve ever worked in a prison, you know that the prisoners have nothing to do all day long except plot how to circumvent the rules. And, […]

Have they been reading the newspaper?

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

ATF rejects Form 3 because it says (accurately) that the caliber of an AK47 is 7.62X39. Seems the caliber listed in the registry is 7.63mm. But remember, ATF has an institutional policy to lie and state that the NFRTR is accurate even thought it’s not.

Machine Gun Scam

Monday, February 28th, 2011

There were allegations of this a couple years back, but ATF is now charging someone with it: The defendants accomplished this by “harvesting” serial numbers from older machine guns, which would be destroyed, and then welding those serial numbers onto larger, more expensive machine guns that they had manufactured. By so doing, they allegedly evaded […]

What gun for Elf?

Friday, December 18th, 2009

That’s not an elf gun. That’s an elf gun.

Movie Industry?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Ridefast notes Cali has more NFA weapons than other states. I wonder how many are owned by those providing props for movies? Also, you have to rely on the data in the NFRTR to be accurate. And even ATF’s own agents testify that it is not.

NFA case settled

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

David Hardy: it was an NFA prosecution, where the defense launched a HARD attack on the messed up nature of the government’s NFA firearm files, including calling a very well qualified expert to testify to the unreliability of files with such flaws. Not the first time we’ve heard of problems with the NFRTR.

Saddam Hussein’s Glock

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Apparently, when captured, he had a Glock 18C (the machine gun version). Said weapon was presented to the president by the folks who captured Hussein. I wonder if it was placed in the NFRTR and is in the NFA registry? If not, that would make it illegal to bring into this country.

More suppressor fun

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

After I got my suppressor, I decided I needed to set up the 10/22 so I could use the suppressor on it as well. So, I took it to Coal Creek Armory and had Gunsmith Bob cut the Ruger factory barrel to 16.25 inches and thread it. How did it turn out? Like so: From […]

Speaking of The Elf on the Shelf

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

For those not in the know about The Elf on the Shelf mentioned here, the elf is magic. He flies back to the North Pole every night and returns to a new location. When your kids wake up, they try to find his new location. It’s quite amazing that I can be in the car […]

Once again

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

An expert states that ATF’s NFRTR database is inadequate: the NFA database might be reliable enough to start an investigation, but was nowhere near accurate enough to justify a conviction. The result was a hung jury, and there will be a retrial. Seems to be a trend. Full transcripts can be found here.

ATF and Statistics

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

A statistician testified that ATF’s National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR) should only be used to pursue leads. As such, a jury became deadlocked on some charges: The one big factor was the BATFE shot itself in the foot on this one because ERB registered a LOT of gun, all marked differently and all […]

Machine Gun Scam

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Over at subguns, they’re talking about ATF confiscating some machine guns. Seems that some dishonest people take the serial number of a cheaper machine gun (like a MAC) that is registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record (NFRTR – the national database that contains a list of transferable MGs and other NFA weapons) […]

Shake up

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Says David Hardy: Word is circulating that a number of ATF supervisors, from field up to high HQ levels, Assistant Directors and such, are being effectively suspended (effectively, but without using that term) while higher powers look into their competence and allegations of abuse and/or fraud. The Inspector General is said to be taking a […]

More ATF Woes

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

In the 2008 appropriations bill: The Committee has heard reports that ATF has pursued violation revocations and denials against firearms dealers based on violations that consist largely of record keeping errors of various types that are unlikely to impede tracing investigations or prosecution of individuals who use firearms in crime. The Committee encourages ATF to […]

ATF Hypocricy

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

So, the ATF is going after Red’s Trading Post for willful violations of arbitrary record keeping laws. Such violations have occurred to the tune of about 0.4% and are things like writing Y instead of Yes. You know, retarded government monkey stuff. But what standards does the ATF hold itself to? Not many. An OIG […]

Abrams to go to trial

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

From a presser by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership: Gun Lobbyist and Gun Dealer Sandy Abrams Heads to Trial for Illegal Assault Weapon Sales, Cited for 900 Federal Gun Law Violations Over Nearly a Decade I’m not particularly familiar with the case but I do know that Abrams had said that he was […]

More ATF Woes

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Oh dear: I’ve received the attached pdf file (small, 134K) from someone in the know. It details ATF agents’ complaints regarding how managers are conducting themselves. Here are a few snippets: ” Field agents have attempted to challenge the un-ethical, and illegal actions of field managers through various means in recent years only to meet […]

More stellar performance from ATF

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

On the Kwan case (background here): Friday the Judge in US v. Kwan set aside the verdict on the Short Barreled Rifle. There will be a hearing in three weeks to determine if US attorney wants to retry or make motion to dismiss. Seems the ATF mis-represented some facts David notes: The Judge set aside […]
