Security theater

TSA fails to detect a gun in a man’s bag. I think I’d have kept my mouth shut.

XKCD on flashlights

Heh. I need to get one that sets things on fire.

Landlord bans guns, sue landlord

I guess private property claims are avoided by the fact the housing is subsidized:

A disabled former lobsterman who shot an intruder after buying a gun to defend himself sued his landlord Monday over a policy that prohibits him from keeping a gun in his subsidized apartment.

Harvey Lembo, who uses a motorized wheelchair, was warned by his property management company that tenants are prohibited from having firearms after he shot an alleged burglar in the shoulder after five break-ins.

Post Paris

Combined with ISIS announcing it will target cities in the US, I’ll be putting the AR back in the truck.

Holsters with sweat guards

Todd is not a fan. I can see the appeal to deter sweat and, also, if you have rather pointy rear sights. But does the potential hindrance outweigh the convenience? I dunno. But I’m not quite the shooter Todd is.

Immigrants and guns

UK citizen is suing the Honolulu police department for depriving him of his right to arms:

A United Kingdom citizen who is a legal permanent resident of the United States alleges in a lawsuit that the Honolulu Police Department discriminates against non-U.S. citizens by making it difficult for them to obtain firearm permits.

Hawaii has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation. Hawaii is the only state that requires firearms to be registered at a statewide level, which is done through county police departments. Hawaii’s permit allows someone to purchase a firearm, transport it to limited places such as a shooting range or gunsmith, or use it for hunting.

Hawaii only granted permits to U.S. citizens until a federal judge in Honolulu last year ruled that’s unconstitutional.

The department is trying to get around that ruling by verbally requiring those with green cards to obtain additional clearance from their countries of citizenship, said the lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Honolulu.

The press blinks

At the WaPo: Why arent Hillary Clintons exaggerations of her life story bigger news?

Because she’s a democrat.

Is anyone at Vox capable of that?

Vox bans mansplaining. Well, the term mansplaining is sexist.

Security theater

You don’t say: A lot of what passes for security at airports is more theatrical than real

SAF getting to work

Suing anti-gun politicians. Good.

Hillary and guns

Caught lying about gun deaths at the debate:

The claim appears to be unsupported on all counts.

The Gun Violence Archive has recorded 11,485 gun deaths in the U.S. so far this year, an average of just under 1,000 per month, making Clinton’s figure appear to be highly exaggerated. The archive had more detailed data for children and teenagers, showing 70 from those age groups killed by firearms since the Democratic candidates debated Oct. 13 – not 200 as she claimed.

And she’s advocating a ban on the most popular rifle in America today.

In Paris

A bunch of jihadists decided to commit an act of terror with guns and explosives last night. Not sure what France will do about this but I’m sure they’re reconsidering that immigration policy.

ISIS claimed responsibility, which is unpossible since we have contained them.

And Moms Demand Whatever refers to the terrorist attack as a mass shooting.

It’s OK, it’s the good kind of racism

Healing space. For coloreds only. Colored white, that is.

No sense of irony.

My kids always ask . . .

Why do you always lock the doors?

So, I don’t have to kill somebody.

Carry your gun.

Almost as dumb as a smart gun

A smart magazine, though the name calls it a clip.

Military Wants Concealed Carry Rights on Stateside Bases

According to a poll. Well, if they can’t do that, it’s not really a right, now is it?

I don’t get it

If you want a push button safety for your AR-15, someone makes one. From comments:

I’ve always wanted to get rid of the most ergonomic part of my favorite rifle and replace it with my least favorite part of the 870.

Endarkenment

A few falsehoods that a lot of people seem to believe:

That Michael Brown put his hands up and said don’t shoot, instead of assaulting a police officer after felony strong armed robbery while high.

That Trayvon Martin was murdered due to stand your ground laws, instead of being some one casing out a place to rob and, then, hanging out to beat up a gay guy.

Planned parenthood never sold organs, though they did.

And we can soon add the following to the list:

There was a poop swastika on the Mizzou campus.

The KKK was active on the same campus.

Magpul to start making belts

And, in a tribute to their recent move, it’s called the Tejas.

Smart gun, dumb idea

The NRA tested the Armatix iP1, supposed smart gun:

The Armatix pistol initially required a full 20 minutes to pair with the watch, even with the aid of an IT pro trained in its use. Without pairing, the Armatix functions like any other handgun, capable of being fired by anyone.

Once paired, a cold start still requires a minimum of seven push-button commands and a duration of 12 seconds before the gun can be fired.

While the gun holds a maximum of 11 rounds (10+1), the best our experts could manage was nine consecutive rounds without a failure to fire (and that only once). Three or four misfires per magazine were common, despite using various brands of ammunition.

Although the Armatix has a decent single-action trigger, it has the worst double-action trigger weve ever tested, requiring more force than any other pistol weve fired.

I don’t see many people finding these things useful.

Well, I guess that’s one interpretation

WBIR (note headline):

While Tennessee voters are protective of gun rights, most agree stricter rules are needed.

A new Middle Tennessee State University poll released Wednesday showed 69% think it’s more important to “protect the right to own guns” than to control gun ownership.

But 85% support laws to prevent people with mental illness from buying guns. And 83% support background checks.

Notes on the debate

Yes, I watched. I’m not sure why I do that to myself. Anyhoo:

Why is John Kaisich still on the stage?

Jeb Bush perked up a little bit this time. Not sure it helped him much.

The questions this time were policy oriented and not media “gotchas”. And Trump didn’t seem to deal with details and complex issues. He kind of kept his mouth shot.

Fiorina did well. Unfortunately, like last time, you won’t hear a peep about her until the next debate.

Cruz nailed it on the issue of immigration. The line about “if journalists were crossing the border” was a nice zinger.

Rubio did pretty well but lost in his tangle with Rand. Of course, Rand beclowned Trump by pointing out the TPP had fuck all to do with China.

Seriously, why is John Kaisich still on the stage?

Ben Carson seems to have gained a bump in confidence and popularity after the media repeatedly lied about him.

And my guy, Rand, seemed to have the best performance he’d ever had. Going after the hawkish military spending, climate change, and the feds. And he had a great line: If you want less income inequality, move to a city with a Republican mayor

Of course, it’s an election year

Time for a new fake pro-gun group that advocates gun control for democrats

Where guns are banned

Australia has a thriving black market for guns. Unpossible.

How do you make a revolver “tactical”?

Put rails on it. I guess it beats an M4 stock. But I’d imagine a light mounted on that would look odd to say the least.

Backyard Railgun

What a beast:

People must be getting smarter

Once again, survey shows fear of government leads to gun purchases.

For the children

We must ban curling irons

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
