Political Science

Senator Chuck Schumer (D – ranged) says the three branches of government are the house, the senate and the president. And we should pay down the debt ceiling. I really hope he misspoke and is actually not that stupid. But you never know.

If the .gov can make you buy health insurance

Heh:

Five South Dakota lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require any adult 21 or older to buy a firearm “sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.”

Says a cosponsor:

“Do I or the other cosponsors believe that the State of South Dakota can require citizens to buy firearms? Of course not. But at the same time, we do not believe the federal government can order every citizen to buy health insurance,” he said.

Now, I do find it amusing but, really, is this something elected officials should be spending time on?

Update: Glenn has more, noting it’s not as silly as it seems.

Goodman shows require NICS checks

Interesting:

Goodman-promoted gun shows now require background checks
Sales between individuals at the events are exempt from the new rule.

That sounds exactly like how federal law works. But:

Bill Goodman Gun and Knife Shows have tightened rules governing who can buy guns at Hara Arena and other Goodman shows.

Background checks of buyers are required by licensed and non-licensed vendors selling guns at the shows promoted by Goodman, company officials confirmed Monday.

“All vendors who have any firearms on display must display a ‘Background Checks Required’ signage provided by the promoter,” according to new guidelines posted online by Goodman.

So if an individual gets a table to sell some of their guns, they have to do checks. I don’t know that many individuals are set up to do checks.

Sex Sells

Even if you’re not sure you’re selling.

Yesterday, I noticed a blogger had an ad on their site for one of those have an affair sites. Then, as if they knew I noticed, I got an email notification that they submitted the same ad (visible at your left, can’t miss it – unless you use an ad blocker) to this site. I clicked on over to blogads unsure if I was going to accept or reject the ad. But leaning toward reject. Not really sure how such an ad would go over to a bunch of gun nuts. I did not approve it and the ad disappeared from the queue.

Imagine my surprise when I notice the ad is actually in my sidebar this morning, without me approving it.

In Florida:

Three teenagers were arrested after they broke into a home Saturday night while wearing masks and beat a 72-year-old man over the head with a baseball bat, Pensacola police reported.

The 72-year-old did not go down without a fight, according to police. The victim, who was home with his 70-year-old sister when the home invasion took place, answered the door with a gun in his hand and fired at the teens, striking 2 of them, police said in a news release.

Everybody loves a gurkha

Heh.

For a second, I thought he meant these gurkhas.

ATF Shotgun Ruling

ATF has opened up the comment period on the proposed import ban of shotguns:

You can comment on the report by e-mail to shotgunstudy@atf.gov or by fax to (202)648-9601. The deadline for comments is May 1, 2011.

Michael Bane has more on the study, including thoughts on ATF’s end game here. Looks like increased shotgun regulation, even conversion once imported like 922(r), is possible. And says Michael:

ATF has always been an agency in search of a mission. It’s just no fun to bust untaxed cigarette smugglers, and you’ll never get a fawning Katie Couric interview that way! The best way for ATF to “clarify” it’s mission is to figure out a way to make more law-abiding Americans into criminals.

Being a tobacco ninja isn’t as fun.

The rules

All guns are always loaded:

I recently won an auction on gunbroker for a USP compact. It was being shipped from Arizona. I went to a FFL dealer and had all the paperwork done. When I finally got an email from the Senders that they will be shipping the firearm I was happy.

Couple days go by and I am just sitting here waiting for a phone call to go and pick it up. When I received the call I was talking to the owner of the receiving FFL.

Supposedly the shop that shipped it, packaged it fully loaded.

When they realized this it was too late. Inadvertently the employee that was inspecting it ended up shooting himself in the hand. So now my USP is sitting in evidence and there is going to be an investigation.

Also, keep your booger-hook off the bang-switch. And don’t point the fucking thing at your face (4:05 mark):

Seriously, this is not a guy that anyone should take seriously when it comes to guns or gun safety.

Via Jacob.

Bloomberg’s Felonies

His recent gun show “investigations” are already felonies under existing law. Despite the press and anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) telling you these transactions are perfectly legal, they are lying.

ATF Cuts & Gunrunner

Good. Cut in by 50%. ATF is all butthurt that the cuts would mean they couldn’t fight gun trafficking to Mexico. Which is funny since the ATF is actually being investigated by a Senator’s office for allowing guns to go into Mexico.

Jacob says don’t cut it, abolish it. That’s not realistic, someone has to process tax stamps. But, yeah, take away all their ninja gear and sniper training.

Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership issues a presser crying about it.

Kalashnakitty Shirts

Now, with hoodies.

The audacity of nope

Obamacare has been ruled unconstitutional. Seems that the .gov forcing citizens to buy health insurance is enough to get at least one court to recognize the commerce clause again. So, that pretty much means that the only thing the commerce clause is good for these days is they can’t make you buy stuff. I guess that’s something.

Appeal by DOJ planned.

Quote of the Day

Breda on twitter:

Gun control is to Democrats what gay control is to Republicans.

Ammo prices

At Wal-Mart yesterday, the .380 ammo was $32 for 100. 9MM was $22 per 100. I thought it odd. I thought I took a pic but apparently the internet ate it.

Rebranding

Gun control is once again gun safety, though it has nothing to do with safety. But it doesn’t matter, you still get told no:

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee on Friday rejected a request from Democrats to hold hearings related to gun safety in the aftermath of the shootings in Tucson earlier this month.

All 16 Democrats on the committee, which has jurisdiction over firearms laws, sent a letter to Rep. Lamar Smith, the Texas Republican who recently took charge of the panel, asking him to convene hearings on the use of high-capacity magazines and improving background checks to prevent the mentally ill from obtaining guns.

Rule one

All guns are always loaded:

During an instructional class for crime scene investigators inside San Francisco’s Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St.,a veteran inspector began a discussion on single action vs. double action firearms when — kaboom! — his gun fired a bullet straight through a cubicle wall.

Funding anti-gun research

Another paper calling for it. I’m all for more information but the studies from the past indicate definite bias against gun rights.

The good, bad and ugly. Mostly bad and ugly.

Dream on

Paul Helmke dreams of a resurgence of support for gun control. This has only occurred with anti-gunners and editorial boards, but I repeat myself.

We are all terrorists now

A Department of Homeland Security Fusion Center has labeled the ACLU a terrorist organization. Get in line behind gun rights folks, militias, environmental protesters, gay pride marchers, and other icky people of which the government does not approve.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
