Post Heller
At least five squibs in this barrel. And it didn’t explode. And how do you not notice that after the first one?
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research has issued its pork report, detailing wasteful spending to the tune of $500M.
No free speech either. A student at a Pittsburgh community college has been banned from starting a Students for Concealed Carry on Campus chapter there:
A student who wants to form a gun-rights group at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) has been threatened with disciplinary action for her efforts. Student Christine Brashier has turned to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help after reporting that administrators banned her informational pamphlets, ordered her to destroy all copies of them, and told her that further “academic misconduct” would not be tolerated.
Probably these 27 government officials who were just arrested for being in bed with drug cartels.
Remember that promise made by Obama to post bills online. And to wait and review them instead of signing them in a hurry? Remember? Once again, not so much:
It seemed among the easiest of his transparency pledges and is entirely under his control, but President Obama is finagling his promise to post bills on the White House Web site for comment for five days before he signs them.
Mr. Obama last week signed four bills, each just a day or two after Congress passed and sent it over to him.
Tam wonders why we’re all shocked about Sotomayor being anti-gun when she would replace someone who is, err, anti-gun. Quips Tam:
If we’re lucky, their feelings towards firearms will only be mild antipathy rather than active loathing.
I’m hearing rumors that Glock will introduce a carbine by late next year, either 5.56 taking AR mags or a multi-caliber model with interchangeable barrels. Of course, such rumors have been in the internet gun community since the advent of the internet gun community.
Police say the officer fired his shotgun several times at the aggressive adult dog.
Neither dog was hit, but a neighbor across the street on his porch was.
We Win, They Lose. Now, Let’s Get To Work. – Paul Helmke on the November Elections
The Washington Times discusses those shills of the NRA: The Democrat Party:
Democratic leaders in Congress tend to support more restrictive gun laws but have yielded on the issue since a majority of their rank-and-file members increasingly side with the National Rifle Association (NRA) when votes involve the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Gun-control groups blame the Obama White House for the setbacks, saying the administration kept mum on firearms issues even when shooting incidents killed six at a North Carolina nursing home in March and left 13 dead at an upstate New York immigration center in April.
Well, they ran as pro-gun.
Penn and Teller cannot do one of their signature tricks in New Jersey due to gun laws:
“You can’t do guns in Atlantic City,” Jillette lamented. “Even bribes couldn’t [help]. They get very jumpy about .357 Magnums in Atlantic City.”
Interesting. Quite a few states have exceptions in the law for dramatic expressions and entertainment. Guess NJ is not one of them.
I read the Dallas Morning News often. It’s kind of like dropping by the tarpit to take a look at the last Mastadon before it goes under.
A judge says your right to free speech is not limited just because there’s an election. Good for him.
Kurt Hofmann looks at what the ATF does instead of something.
The rise of suburban survivalists:
These people snapping up everything from water purification tablets to thermal blankets shatter the survivalist stereotype: they are mostly urban professionals with mortgages, SUVs, solid jobs and a twinge of embarrassment about their newfound hobby.
Heh:
Justice Department to force criminals to register illegal guns
Sadly, that’s how the press and the anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) tell us it works.
Reader WizardPC emails:
HB0716 which will allow handgun permit holders in Tennessee to carry in state and federal parks (well as of 2/10) passes the Senate and the House. One HUGE downside to the new law, unless vetoed, is that local governments can vote by RESOLUTION (not an ordinance) to close an entire local park. It will now be up to local citizens to contact their local government officials to demand that the parks stay open.
HB0390 which will allow a handgun permit holder to transport a loaded rifle or shotgun – so long as there is no round in the chamber – has passed the Senate and passed the House tonight. Its on its way to the governor.
Be sure of your target and what’s behind it:

This pic was taken at the John Sevier Hunter Education center on one of their handgun ranges. There’s a berm behind me on the rifle range. Trying to figure out how this happened since it doesn’t look it could have come from that range. Weird.
David Kopel has more. Including: the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right.
As Dave notes: Judge Sotomayor’s record suggests hostility, rather than empathy, for the tens of millions of Americans who exercise their right to keep and bear arms.
Bitter looks at some numbers from the NRA election:
In 2009, there were more eligible voting members of NRA than at any other time since I’ve started keeping detailed records of the votes.
The courts: where policy is made. Odd. I thought we had another branch of government for that.
And: I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life
White and a penis = bad decisions?
Our state legislature is moving on an abortion amendment that will not pass. ACK tells you why. Well, not why it won’t pass. But why it’s being made a big deal.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
