Congress’ approval rating hits single digits for the first time since ever. And Bush’s approval rating is currently at 30%. Has he ever hit single digits? I mean, the congress keeps telling us how bad a job he’s doing but they should maybe look at their own house first.
Forty years ago the American society was told to tune in, turn on, and drop out. And that is just what they did. Somewhere during this long tuned in and turned on phase the America people became more than a little like lemmings. They believed what they read in the papers and what they saw on television. Especially if it was bad.
Those people had children and surprise; the children are second generation lemmings. Worst than first generation lemmings this new batch really believes if a story is bad they must believe it.
So how dire is the situation? People really believe a trace gas can cause Global Warming, Al Gore is the smartest man in the World, and Barrack Obama is the most qualified man out the over 300 million people in this entire country to be the next President of the United States.
They call this philosophy of the Chicken Little syndrome Liberalism. Need a few examples of this wayward tuned in turned on incoherent philosophy?

You’ll recall the story of David Olofson (past coverage here). He was supposedly sent to jail for a malfunctioning firearm. Reviewing the report from an ATF field agent don’t seem to jibe with some of Olofson’s claims. The agent claims that the firearm selector switch moved through all three positions (including the naughty switch) and that the bolt had been filed (see note 13) . Note 17 says nothing about soft-primered ammo. One of the allegations made by Olofson was that the firearms tests were not videotaped. Based on these affidavits, I can see how a jury could convict. And if they hadn’t got him for that, they could have got him for dealing firearms without a license.
Also, Lagniappe is not such a fan of GOA.
There are no winners.

Update: This document doesn’t jive with the ATF report mentioned above.
Update 2: In comments, Sailorcurt notes some pretty major discrepancies between what ATF says and what happened:
Supposedly, Olafson had modified his AR-15 to fire three round bursts, however, the affidavit later states that when the BATFE tested it, it fired full 20 round mags in full auto. Modified or not, something wasn’t working right in that rifle.
According to the affidavit, Olafson was selling guns on E-bay…E-Bay doesn’t allow gun sales.
Via some random clickity that started with this post from R. Neal, I discovered that my subdivision now is part of Google’s street views. Creepy. However, they still show a cow pasture where my house is on their satellite view.
Here: Marsha Blackburn has a perfect pro-gun voting record in Congress and is a great friend to Tennessee gun owners and hunters. She is a true pro-Second Amendment Member of Congress and NRA-PVF is proud to endorse Representative Blackburn in the August 7th primary and in the November 4th general election.
At FoxNews, a piece on DC skirting Heller begins with:
The Supreme Court’s repeal of the ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., may be a boon for a segment of the firearms industry whose last major windfall might have been in the heyday of the Dirty Harry movies: those who make and sell revolvers.
We’ll not even comment on the lame ass Dirty Harry reference. We will comment on the boon bit. Recently, the firearms industry has experienced three major upticks in sales:
1) September 11;
2) The expiration of the ban on weapons that look like assault weapons and its ban on regular capacity magazines;
3) Hurricane Katrina
So, stop that crap. Anyway, the meat of the article is that DC is looking to say revolvers are OK but semi-automatics are illegal. That’s going to get them into trouble, I think. If, as the supreme court asserts, the American people have considered the handgun to be the quintessential self-defense weapon then the semi-automatic is the quintessential handgun.

Our past sneak peak was here.
Speaking of Para, looks like they’re moving out of Canuckistan and into Charlotte, NC.
FEMA buys 478 pallets of baby food. Leaves them in a warehouse until they rot. Now, they’re taking bids to destroy them. Taxpayers paid to buy it, store it and now dispose it.
478 pallets could probably have been put to good use somewhere, other than a warehouse.
“Der Spiegel wrote that the IMF had ‘informed’ Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke of plans that would have been unheard of in the past: a general examination of the US financial system. The IMF’s board of directors has ruled that a so-called Financial Sector Assessment Program is to be carried out in the US.
This, Der Spiegel wrote, ‘is nothing less than an X-ray of the entire US financial system’, adding that ‘no Fed chief in US history has been forced to submit to the kind of humiliation that Ben Bernanke is facing’
Few things: Fed Reserve isn’t looking too credible to the international community. Of course, being American, we could give a crap less about the international community. If we cared what the international community thought, we’d be metric. However, these foreigners own a lot of our debt. property, businesses, etc. So, this one won’t just slide by.
And this is fantastic: Der Spiegel reports that the IMF is threatening to seriously study the accounts of America, something President George Bush is determined to prevent at least while he is in the White House, informing the IMF that it can begin its investigation but cannot complete it until he leaves office.
And they blame the media: Part of the problem is the US media, which has for so long pretended that all is or soon will be well, a bottom is near, a recovery awaits in the second half of the financial year that will sweep away all problems, sown over decades, in a new expansion, a cycle that is ordained to come. The latest fantasy is that with the quarter’s end, new profit figures will invigorate the bull, which will seed fertility.
Our media isn’t that good at economics. I mean, those retards think taxing windfall profits of oil companies is a good idea.

People have often asked about the nice looking Garand err Rack that makes up the Gun Bogger Logo. Well, here’s where it came from.
Modern media. They’ll let anyone do it.
No wonder the LA Times is laying off people.
Squeaky and Ahab will be interviewing Michael Bane.
The interview will be aired here.
I won the gun blogger contest with ParaUSA. Heading to Blackwater’s training facility to shoot between 1,000 & 1,500 rounds with Todd Jarrett.
Also, a little birdie told me that ParaUSA will be going live with their AR-15 that you got a sneak peak of here.
And a big thank you go those of you who voted for me!
The NYT author who said Knoxville was referred to as “the couch” by locals but could not actually name a local who called it that has a bit on Knoxville in Garden and Gun magazine. In other news, there’s a Garden and Gun magazine. I actually did know that as my dentist’s office has it.
While shooting with my nephews, one got a bit excited and ran forward from the firing line before we called it cold to check the target. I kinda put my arm in front of him and said the range was hot. He stopped. Then he mentioned the four rules; all the range rules; sight alignment & trigger squeeze; and all manner of other things we discussed. He looked at me and said:
Sorry, but it’s a lot to keep up with.
It is, indeed.
HR 6310 will allow the firearms and ammunition industry to pay the FAET on a quarterly basis, the same payment schedule as every other industry that supports conservation. Currently firearms and ammunition manufacturers must pay the FAET bi-weekly. This payment schedule forces many manufacturers to borrow money to ensure on-time payment, and industry members spend thousands of man-hours administering the necessary paperwork to successfully complete the bi-weekly payments — monies that are due long before manufacturers are paid by their customers. This legislation will not lower the amount of conservation dollars collected by the tax.
National Review looks at his time at the Joyce Foundation:
During Obama’s tenure with the Joyce Foundation, donations to anti-gun groups increased dramatically. For example, in 1997 and 1998 the Violence Policy Center received $221,000 and $360,000 from the Foundation; those grants and donations increased to $1 million in 2000 and $800,000 in 2002. In all, during Obama’s tenure, the group received $15 million from the Joyce Foundation.
Barack Rob Van Winkle Obama’s record on gun control can be found here.
So, after all the festivities this Fourth of July, we had the in-laws over. And I had the pleasure of teaching two nephews (age eight) and my niece (age seven) gun safety. I printed off the four rules and had them each read the rules. Told them they’d be quizzed on the rules later too. They memorized and were reciting the rules pretty quickly. They were very excited about shooting.
After, we broke out the Gamo 220 Hunter, a rest, and a mat for shooting. Explained the rules of the backyard range (i.e., don’t cross the firing line; range hot and cold, etc.). I take the first shot so they know how the gun sounds.
First round of targets were at about 10 yards and I had stuck some Shoot-N-Cs to a 3/4 inch board. First nephew lines up his shot after I explain how to address the gun in the prone position; how to line up the scope; squeeze the trigger and do not snap it; etc. First round connects. Second nephew barely missed and I told him he pulled the gun. The niece missed as well. I attributed that to nervousness.
After that, all three were dead on. We shot all manner of can, water bottle, box, and more Shoot-N-C targets. They all took their targets home to show their friends.
I told them they could come back any time and we’d do it again.
Junior was invited. She came and watched the first shot by her cousin and then grew bored. Hard to keep a four year-old entertained when there’s a lot of just standing around.
The News Sentinel’s Jim Balloch has a piece on the decision:
The decision does not specify to what extent guns may be regulated. Expect some big battles to come over that issue.
And:
But more was at stake here. Whatever your view of guns, you should endorse this decision and be sickened by – even angry – over the shameless and disingenuous attempts of dissenting Justices Stephen Breyer and John Paul Stevens to reserve part of the Bill of Rights for state governments and deny it to citizens.
Ouch.
I’d like to thank R. Neal for linking to this PDF creator. This has saved me so much time standing in front of a damn scanner. The only issue I have with it is that it won’t do multiple worksheets in Excel and you have to do each worksheet separately.
Title 18, section 925(d) of the United States Code provides that certain types of firearms may be imported into the United States. Among these are firearms “generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.” … [T]he ATF determined that the BD44 was not importable under section 925(d)(3) because it was not “generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.” Plaintiff challenges the ATF’s decision. Plaintiff argues that the ATF’s interpretation of section 925(d)(3) is arbitrary and capricious, and seeks damages for lost income resulting from his inability to sell BD44s to prospective military re-enactors
Additionally, plaintiff said all bans are unconstitutional. The court ruled in light of Heller that plaintiff’s challenge fails that test.
Seems to me that the way to challenge this would be under the sporting purposes language. After all, one could import a weapon suitable for self-defense and that would seem to pass what was laid out in Heller.
More info here and here. Looks like another case of someone screaming SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED and representing themselves. I told someone offline that we need to get someone to challenge the MG ban. And not because I think MGs will be unbanned. Rather, because I don’t want someone challenging the ban doing more damage.
Seems we’ll be arguing the details for a while.
Petition to Allow Concealed Handguns In The UK.
I dunno but I think I’d start by getting handguns unbanned and making self-defense legal again first.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
