Dog aggression

Most aggressive breed: Wiener Dogs. Well, they were bred to hunt badgers.

Meanest dog I ever owned was a weiner dog. Also the only dog I ever owned that ever bit anyone.

I owned one, and he was okay, except he was freaked out by people in uniform. Oddly enough, the only time I was ever attacked by a dog, it was by what’s supposed to be one of the most docile breeds: a golden retriever. I still have the scar to show for it. I joke that he “retrieved” me.

In any case, it doesn’t surprise me at all that a small dog would be among the most aggressive. People who own small dogs tend to have a high incidence of Teh St00pid, and think that they don’t have to train and/or discipline their dog. And a spoiled/untrained dog is a recipe for aggression, no matter the dog’s size.

Well, people do tend to be more lenient with small dogs because they think it can’t do much damage. then I point out the case where a dachshund ate a baby’s face and they almost lose it.

Nervous dogs are more likely to be aggressive. Small dogs tend to be more nervous because everything’s BIG, and can hurt them easily. They get pushed into a fight or flight reaction more easily, and if the dog considers itself as an “alpha” that means fight.

I don’t know about aggressive, but the most belligerent dogs I have been around have been Pekingese.

i’ve owned a pitbull and two huskies. the pitbull was by far the friendlier dog; the huskies are nice, but more aloof and stand-offish.

never been bit by a dog, but one of those huskies (the less self-assured one, current pack omega) scratched me deep enough to scar while i tried to control her, once. don’t think the dog even noticed doing it, either.

The pug is a mean dog and bites the face. All small dogs tend to be more aggressive. The Jack Russells are famous biters and often have muzzles because of that. Small dogs bites are not as serious. When a Shepard or Doberman means to bite, not a warning bite either. The damages are worse. The size, strength and speed of larger breeds mean the can take down larger prey. That is what they are bred for. If the prey is human so much worse for the human.

Large dogs are better controlled because of that. They are trained, leashed or bred not to be aggressive toward humans. Pit bulls for example are meaning toward other dogs but not toward people.

Since humans choose to have as a companion a predator, we have bred a friend not one that thinks we are food. More that we are pack leader and provide food.

Humans that choose not to be pack leader are in danger once their dogs decide they are the leader. If they have more that 2 dogs, pack behavior often will ensue. Any changes to the pack like new children can create different pack standings to the injury of the child.

Large dogs are more useful than small yappers. Since hunting with dogs is not as popular and people live in closer quarters the small dogs fits the lifestyle better.

Hard to have a Great Dane in an apt. Easier to have a small dog.
Small dogs on farms are more nuisances so people keep larger dogs for guard and herding.

  8. Dan Says:

They are great dogs, I own two of them.

But I do not know how accurate a phone poll is in order to gauge how many non-reported bites there are.

All I know is that my doxie will never be able to destroy a wooden fence and rip apart a chihuahua. Though, one of them has killed a mouse once.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
