Ammo For Sale

So, how’s that bailout working?

Doesn’t seem to be doing a damn thing to the market. But we still have a bill for $700,000,000,000.00. Go congress!

On the NRA Endorsement

The AHSA and Brady Campaign in a seemingly coordinated message have pressers on the endorsement. The sound like Gun Owners of America.

Apparently, Bob Barr thought he had a shot since he’s a board member.

Now, the NRA has had issues with McCain. But the endorsement in this case seems to be he’s not Obama, which is pretty much my feelings on the issue. McCain, supporting requiring background checks on private transfers of firearms and the incumbent protection act err campaign finance reform, is not high on my list of favorites. But he’s not hostile to gun rights. Obama is. And McCain simply is the most pro-gun candidate in the general presidential election that we’ve had in 20 years. Clinton was out right hostile to gun rights. And both Bushes weren’t exactly friends of the second amendment.

TSA and guns

A reader emails a link to this: Packing and the Friendly Skies – Why Transporting Firearms May Be the Best Way to Safeguard Your Tech When You Fly

After a particularly horrible episode of airport theft, Deviant made the decision to never again travel by air with unlocked luggage. Because of this he now flies with firearms all the time. Federal law allows (in fact, it requires) passengers to lock firearm-bearing luggage with non-TSA-approved padlocks and does not permit any airport staffer to open such bags once they have left the owner’s possession. In this talk, you will learn the relevant laws and policies concerning travel with weapons. It’s easier than you think, often adds little to no extra time to your schedule (indeed, it can expedite the check-in process sometimes), and may actually be the best way to prevent tampering and theft of bags during air travel.

Flying with firearms is one of the best kept secrets out there. You’re rarely accosted by TSA.

Two party system

Radley notes that while exceptions are made for the two major parties, no such leniency exists for third parties. Even though hurricane sounds like a reasonable excuse for missing a deadline.

Local shooting

There was a shooting at a Knoxville mall. R. Neal notes that a local politico was there and that the politico was armed. R. Neal asks:

Is it legal to be in possession of a handgun on private property posted “no weapons” regardless of whether you have a permit?

It is not, presuming a sign prohibiting weapons is posted in a conspicuous place (link). It’s been years since I’ve been to that mall but I don’t recall seeing such a sign.

Or does that not apply to elected officials?

Does anything?

Or is he a sworn deputy or something?

Dunno.

Update: Apparently Lumpy is like you and me, only better. He can carry at the mall, and is exempt from private property owners’ prohibitions.

Update: Maybe not. See (b)(2). Perhaps he is prohibited after all.

Yet another update: As I said, been years since I’ve been to that mall. But I’m being told that the Knoxville Center’s sign prohibiting carrying of arms is not a legal posting as the sign is not at the entrance and is listed as one of the mall rules once you get inside the mall. State law requires the sign at the entrance. Anyone know?

How not to win part 2

Heh:

So there you have the tale of two phone bank experiences. McCain, where we politely ask the questions, thank you for your time, and move on. Then there’s the Obama plan which involves sending a shrill woman to yell at you any time you disagree. It’s like your very own Michelle Obama to call you every night.

Meanwhile, at least the Obamanaut didn’t call the police on her. Wow.

A lesson

In how not to win.

Cool

Judging by my referral logs, it appears that there’s an awful lot of Googling for the American Hunters and Shooters Association. And they find little ol’ me.

Mission accomplished.

Update: The AHSA: The Brady Campaign in a Flannel Shirt. Comparing AHSA’s positions to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership:

Basically, there is NO DIFFERENCE in the positions of the AHSA and the Brady Campaign.

And AHSA’s website is down. Heh.

And Wikipedia is hostile to the AHSA:

The American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA) is an organization involved in advocacy for gun control,[1] founded to more effectively promote the efforts of the Brady Campaign.[2] Its critics claim that AHSA is a front organization aimed at dividing gun owners by pointing to AHSA members’ bias against private ownership of the most popular modern sporting firearms, and note AHSA leaders have donated money to gun control groups[3] and maintained ties to individuals and organizations who advocate gun control.[4] Despite the similarity in name, AHSA has no ties to the field marksmanship promoting organization, the Hunter’s Shooting Association (HSA).

Ouch.

A post-Heller suit

Drug users lose second amendment rights:

The U.S. District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin has issued what appears to be first opinion in the country since D.C. v. Heller, 128 S.Ct. 2783 (2008), to consider whether the federal ban on possession of firearms by users of controlled substances runs afoul of the Second Amendment.

On Oct. 3, Judge Barbara B. Crabb denied a motion to dismiss the charge, concluding that the right to bear arms does not extend to drug users.

Dismissing the argument by the defendant, Matthew Yancey, Judge Crabb wrote, “Defendant is one of many charged or convicted persons who believe that the United States Supreme Court’s decision in [Heller] means that no one in possession of a firearm can be convicted of a crime, whatever the status of the person possessing it. Defendant is wrong.”

Should they also lose their right to vote, speak freely, and peaceably assemble?

Scary

All kinds of voter fraud allegedly going on:

First, it was Washington where all but 6 of 1,800 ACORN submitted forms were fraudulent.

And in Vegas too.

ACORN under investigation in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Indiana and other states.

Marion County Clerk to be investigated for voter fraud.

Marion County, Indiana has 105% of all eligible voters registered

Lots more:

Officials in Lake County, Ind. report that fully 1,100 of 2,000 new voter-registration forms delivered by ACORN were “suspicious.”

In Washington state, officials recently closed an investigation into ballot cheating that resulted in prison terms.

ACORN submitted more than 800 phony registration forms in Independence, Mo., with one woman registering 10 times, using three birthdates, four different Social Security numbers and six different phone numbers.

Strange happenings in Ohio.

[Acorn] has encountered complaints of fraud stemming from registration efforts in Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Mexico, Michigan, Ohio and Missouri.

Gun Crime

In Schenectady:

A gun buyback program in the city spearheaded by an Albany pastor has already maxed out with 10 guns taken in, the pastor said Tuesday.

Now, he’s looking for ways to continue it.

Pastor Charlie Muller of Victory Christian Church had offered $150 gift cards to Crossgates Mall in exchange for handguns. The cards were funded by the church.

Unless the pastor is a federally licensed firearms dealer, he’s breaking the law.

Guns and the election

False flag American Hunters and Shooters Association held an event:

Yes, you read that right — a lengthy newspaper article reporting on an America Hunters and Shooters Association event which attracted “over a dozen” people. Great showing there, guys. I can see that there are lots of sportsmen willing to support Obama.

Meanwhile, TP points out the antis aren’t too happy with Barack Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis Obama pandering to the NRA crowd:

Josh Horowitz is working out of a broom closet w/ unpaid interns because he can’t afford the rent and Paul Helmke is begging anyone, anyone at all, to bring up gun control so he can pretend he’s doing his job as the Brady Bunch president. Even Barack “minor wording issues” Obama knows where the votes are when it comes to firearms nationally.

Nifty

The XM-25:

wireless airburst slugs hit round corners

and

Essentially, the idea is to have a gun which shoots special, extra-big 25mm slugs – sort of a cross between a normal bullet and a 40mm launched grenade. The projectile is thus big enough to put clever stuff in it, but small enough that a weapon carried by a normal person can shoot it a long way without the recoil knocking the user flat.
