So, Lamar, tell us how you’re a small government, pro business conservative again?

Sen. Alexander, Feinstein send anti-cellphone letter to DOT. Or, you know, let the airlines decide their own policies.

Primarying Alexander

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

Not sure why, but there’s a lot of talk locally about doing that. Seems he votes more with Obama than against and the Tea Party folks are not fans. Joe Carr looks to be trying. And there’s talk Tim Burchett may try as well. Well, when it comes to voting the bums out, you have […]

Rand Paul: not an endorsement of Lamar

Monday, July 15th, 2013

I think Lamar is in trouble this time around. Too squishy and too much agreement with Obama. So, Rand Paul says that ad was not an endorsement.

Lamar: sticking to being wrong

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

A non-response to my post here has been posted here and here: Senator Alexander’s letter is correct where it states that the Coburn Amendment goes further than state law. The new Tennessee state law allows ONLY those with conceal-and-carry permits to carry in a STATE park. The amendment that Senator Alexander opposed allows anyone who […]

Error in Lamar’s form letter

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Reader Tim expressed his disappointment with Lamar Alexander’s recent anti-gun rights vote. The senior senator responded: Thanks for getting in touch and letting me know what’s on your mind regarding guns in national parks. I am a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. So was President Reagan, who established rules allowing guns in national parks […]

Oh Lamar

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Lamar on my money: “The audit? It’s a bad idea,” said Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, head of the Republican Conference in the Senate. “It’s a sorry day when the Congress superimposes itself on the Fed, nosing around in monetary policy. It’s bad enough we are nosing around with the car companies.” No, it’s a sorry […]

Lamar on his anti-gun vote

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

He issued a lame statement: I have consistently been a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, but this legislation goes too far – further than President Reagan, further than President Bush, and further than Tennessee law. Neither Bush was exceptionally friendly to gun rights. While Reagan signed the Firearms Owners Protection Act, it also contained […]

Park Carry and Lamar

WBIR notes that Corker supports the changes and says this of Lamar Alexander: Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander says he sees no need to change the current rule.

Lamar is back, and he wants to tax your blog

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

I could be wrong, but is this a good idea in any way? I think this is a very bad idea.

Quick, look conservative. An election is coming up

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

Been talking about Lamar Alexander and the fact that he’s not a conservative and not small government. Well, he and Corker have decided to oppose the budget bill. You know, one that doesn’t matter so they can tout their conservative voting records.

Small government conservative, eh?

Monday, December 16th, 2013

Lamar Alexander, who’s been running ads on the local radio telling us how conservative he is, has introduced a bill to prohibit people from using their phones on planes since that rule might be going away. Here’s a novel idea: Let the airlines make their own rules for their own businesses.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

Our local talk radio is inundated with ads from Lamar Alexander. He touts that he’s a conservative and has voted against Obamacare eleventy billion times. Except that one time it mattered. And all those other times it was attached to pork. Meh, fuck that guy. If you want to vote the bums out, start with […]

The Examiner: Lawmakers are scrambling to save the summer concert season from federal agents poised to seize the instruments of rock and country stars because the wood used to make them may have been illegally harvested–and without their knowledge. “I don’t want the musicians from Nashville who are flying to Canada to perform this summer […]

Creating a dependent class

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

One of the issues with the health insurance bill is the hysterics of the opposition to it. It’s not tyranny. It’s not comparable to Nazis. Sure, I don’t like it. But I’m not going to call everyone a bunch of commie symps and throw bricks through windows (real helpful, Mike). I’m going to voice my […]

Blogs and politics have come a long way

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Regarding Lamar Alexander’s inaccurate statements on the guns in national parks bill, Michael Silence and I were having an offline conversation. And I was still telling Michael that the Senator was wrong. And his spokesperson was wrong. Then, Michael quipped: I just think it’s very cool a US senator has responded to a blogger You […]

Guns in Parks

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

The Senate has passed the guns in parks bill. Overwhelmingly with 67 votes. NRA A-Rated Lamar Alexander voted against. Also, bear spray is illegal in the Smoky Mountains. But authorities tend to look the other way. I wonder if that applies to my two brands of bear spray?

Econ and vote buying

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

US banks were forced by the .gov to take the bailout money. Of course, they need you dependent upon them. Cheerful banking news, including: FDIC’s Bair Says Insurance Fund Could Be Insolvent This Year Lamar Alexander votes against bill that strips earmarks and for vote-buying. The solution is what is working so well in California. […]

Blake reports that Real ID passed the Senate. It’s on its way to Bush for signing. He also reports that Lamar Alexander made a quite half-assed attempt to stand against it. Too bad that’s overshadows by the fact he, you know, voted for it. Blake has a round up of Real ID stuff here.

Flash mobs

Monday, September 27th, 2004

I think I saw my first this weekend. Went to Lowe’s and bought some stuff but the grill I bought wouldn’t fit in the truck. The plan was to take the Mrs., Junior and all our stuff home then go back and get the grill. On the way home, we saw some people carrying signs […]

Blount County to regulate adult oriented businesses

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

In other news, Blount County has adult oriented businesses? It seems after public outcry (which probably consisted of ten people from a church), my fair county is making an attempt at regulating such businesses. And by regulate, I’m sure they mean put out of business: Adult entertainment businesses in Blount County will now be regulated […]

United States Senators for Truth

Monday, August 30th, 2004

With a release of a new book entitled He Can’t Even Show Up For His Day Job, the United States Senators for Truth (and they even have a hard time calling themselves that) have come forward to challenge John Kerry. They allege that the man doesn’t show up for work. The USST has released an […]

A bill to allow Tennesseans and residents of seven other states to deduct sales tax for federal income tax purposes is hitting snags: ”Senator Frist is a co-sponsor of sales-tax deductibility legislation, and now that the House has acted, he is hopeful that Democrats will support our efforts to go to conference,” Smith said. Frist […]

SayUncle gets results

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

Well, not really me, but lots of folks. But I got a nice letter from Lamar Alexander (R-TN) thanking me for taking the time to let him know how I feel about gun laws. He explains: Because I believe law-abiding citizens have a constitutional right to the weapon of their choice, I support allowing the […]

AWB Update

Tuesday, February 24th, 2004

I just spoke with the people who answer the phones for Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander. They stated that they were unaware that the Assault Weapons Ban would be attached to the frivolous lawsuit bill. That means not enough of you are calling. To contact your Senators, go here. If you’re in Tennessee, go here.

Shameful and despicable

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

I commented that the senate measure to apologize for the Democrats filibustering laws to make lynching a federal crime 100 or so years ago was nothing but a Dog and Pony show (none of the current congress monkeys were around then and this measure will bring no one back). And I stand by that. It’s […]
