Flashlights on guns

Monday, September 26th, 2016

A thing I’ve noted a few times is now a thing someone in the press is talking about: How many people have been injured or killed in accidental shootings by police officers using gun-mounted flashlights isnt known. The statistic is not tracked, but deaths or injuries appear to be rare. The Denver Post reported in […]

From NJT. I know a lot of people carry one every day. I never have, I use the phone’s flashlight app. But that one looks small enough.

Tam notes a way to improve a Surefife. Sebastian wants a light he can completely operate with one hand. I’ve got a few old school Surefire G2s that I keep on hand for work use. I like them fine. I also still dig the Lifegear four pack. The large light is good for lighting up […]

They told me flashlights would give away my position

Monday, June 1st, 2015

And they were right: When deputies arrived, the 70-year old homeowner said he woke up to someone shining a light in his bedroom window. He then observed a man standing outside, who then broke the bedroom window and started to climb inside. At that point the homeowner told officers he grabbed a pistol and fired […]

This is why we don’t just our guns as flashlights

Weapon-mounted lights and accidental shootings. It’s also why I’m a fan of LaserGrips, with the design no additional action is required to activate it.

Assault Flashlights

Sunday, March 23rd, 2014

No, they’re police officer flashlights so they are Patrol Flashlights. Snark aside, I would consider the switches and goo-gas to be more problematic than an under the trigger guard. I grip the gun and the light comes on. As opposed to fumbling with something with an activation that, under stress, might result in flicking the […]

Switchback Tactical Flashlight Ring

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

I’m not a tactical guy. And I don’t operate operationally in operations. But I can sort of see this being useful somewhat: Pro being that you can use the flashlight without using the gun, unlike pistol mounted lights. So, you know, you don’t muzzle the cat at 0 dark 30 when you hear that bump […]

Police chief comes out against weapon-mounted flashlights

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

Interesting: After a supervisor noticed the officers using them on the graveyard shift, he put a stop to it and an investigation was launched to see if they disobeyed a direct order by the chief not to use them. For now, the rookie officers will no longer be allowed to use their weapon-mounted flashlights and […]

The wiz has a comparison of $9 Sipik v. the Fenix PD20 as every day carry lights. While the $9 light in no way compares to my Surefires or Streamlights, it’s definitely worth the $9 as a throwaway light. I have four. I gave two to the kids and put two in some go bags.

And a deal alert. After a tip from reader Andy, I picked up four of these Focus Zoom Lens Cree Q3 Flashlight Torch Light Lamp, which are now on sale for $9. I got mine at $18, darn it. These are well worth the money. Light, durable and the one handed zoom is slick. Also, […]

Flashlights and guns

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

This SI article on flashlight shooting techniques got me to thinking. On the one hand, I can see the need for a flashlight mounted to a handgun for home defense. On the other hand, if your only source of light is on the end of your gun, that sounds like a setup for some major […]
