A mini review. After my bleg, many folks suggested I get the CTAC or MTAC from CompTac. I opted for the MTAC since I don’t always wear a T-Shirt.

Here’s a look at the holster with my ParaUSA in it:

Initial impressions were that I really liked. It was comfortable. I could wear a commander-sized 1911 while wearing shorts and a T-Shirt. And I could even tuck my shirt in. So, really dig the holster.

But there was one problem. If I had the holster at the 5 o’clock position and sat down, the magazine would become unseated. Seems as though the holster would come into contact with me and the bit of leather by the magazine release would hit the release. Handy photo to illustrate:

I called CompTac and they were very eager to please after I explained the situation. Their customer service was excellent. They said to send it back and they’d send me another. And they did. But I have the same issue. Seems the be how the holster is designed. I still carry with it but in the 3 o’clock position where the magazine ejecting is not a problem. The other option is to try to cut off a little bit of leather right there where the arrow is. But that would screw up the stitching.

Overall, it’s a good, quality holster and is the most comfortable tuckable holster I’ve ever used. But I can’t carry in the 5 o’clock position, which actually does a bit better job concealing than 3 o’clock. If that’s not an issue for you, I heartily recommend the holster.

Update: here. Turns out, that is not how it is designed.

One solution is to not let your clothes catch fire. But in their defense, you sometimes catch fire without noticing it. In other news, there was a time when I did posts longer than three lines.

The house sponsor recalled the bill. Everybody said some sort of deal had been made. Bredesen denied such a deal, which is odd because everyone else said there was one. The senate opted not to play along and did not agree to withdraw the bill. Looks like a veto is coming and it will be overridden. John Harris summarized the shenanigans here.

Not sure what’s gotten into the ordinarily pro-gun Bredesen lately. After a strong second amendment record, he breaks a campaign promise and vetoes the guns in restaurants bill. Now this.

I expect a veto today.

Although I agree with Linoge on a philosophical basis I also am of the opinion that once our enemies violated that principle (Hughes Amendment, Lautenberg Amendment, etc.) it would be unethical for us to defend our specific enumerated right to keep and bear arms on an unequal playing field. We are only playing by their rules.

Additionally, one of the plaintiffs purchased a rifle through the Federal Civilian Marksmanship Program, which shipped the rifle directly to his home in Chicago. This prevents registration of that rifle in Chicago permanently, because of the requirement to register before taking possession. It also sets up an interesting tension between the government legally sending a rifle to a place where it is impossible to legally own it. That same resident tried to register the rifle, was denied, and appealed the denial administratively, and was denied again.

Not really. For example, there is no contract that recognizes that a gay spouse can make medical decisions for his/her incapacitated gay spouse such as exists under normal marriage. No matter what contracts you sign, that decision will be left to who is legally the closest family member. It’s about a bit more than a tax subsidy.

The federal government has proposed over $255,000 in fines against a New Hampshire firearms manufacturing center alleging 60 safety and health violations between November and May.

Officials say inspections at Sturm Ruger & Co. in Newport identified many mechanical, respirator protection, electrical, lead, and fire hazards.

That’ll teach them to get in the EBR market! I kid.

House passes bill allowing dogs in bars:

The measure would be limited to cities with a population of at least 100,000 and business owners would have the power to decide whether to allow dogs at their establishments.

So, restaurants in small cities still have no choice.

Err, yeah. Because obviously handgun carry permit holders are wanting to head to the park to shoot at kids. Anyway, it’s a bit amusing watching his hysterical rhetoric fly because the bill was withdrawn so more pro-gun bills could pass. Of course, that’s assuming Bredesen doesn’t go back on his word and veto. Again.

The Rep brings news of a deal:

The gun bill in parks is coming back from the gov (previous to veto) withdrawn by the sponsor. The local parks part part is coming out. The preemption of locals for guns in restaurants is going on.

Rep. Frank Niceley, House sponsor of the guns-in-parks bill, told the Gaggle that the governor and legislators have agreed to add language making clear that municipalities cannot somehow ban handguns in bars/restaurants through their beer regulations in exchange for taking local parks completely out of the bill. Bicentennial Mall and one other state park contained completely within a municipality would also be removed from the bill.

The TFA speculates Bredesen will tilt at one more windmill:

We have been alerted this morning that the Governor plans to VETO the parks bill unless the bill is recalled by the House and/or the Senate. The governor wants the PARKS bill amended to either remove local parks entirely and/or to flip from the “opt out” standard to an “opt in” standard.
