Park Carry Veto

The TFA speculates Bredesen will tilt at one more windmill:

We have been alerted this morning that the Governor plans to VETO the parks bill unless the bill is recalled by the House and/or the Senate. The governor wants the PARKS bill amended to either remove local parks entirely and/or to flip from the “opt out” standard to an “opt in” standard.

One Response to “Park Carry Veto”

  1. Mikee Says:

Here in Texas we have an interesting situation similar to the Tennessee “guns in parks” issue.

Texas state code says it is a criminal offense to possess, display or fire a firearm in any state park. However, in 1998 the Executive Director of the state parks issued an order with binding force of law stating:

“Nothing in the Public Hunting Lands Proclamation or State Parks Proclamation prohibits a person from possessing a concealed handgun, loaded or unloaded, under the authority of a concealed handgun license issued by this state or any other state.”

With very little publicity, and as far as I can tell absolutely zero bad press, Texas enabled CHL holders their right to carry in all Texas parks. We just didn’t tell the anti-gun nuts about it, so their feeeeeeelings aren’t all upset.

This executive order covers local parks also, according to my city attorney. So the nearby lovely but lonely “walking path” city park that connects two neighborhoods through the woods along a creek in my neighborhood can be enjoyed with self-protection.

This is not a suggestion for you Tennesseans, just an anecdote from another state where gun rights are still advancing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
