Bump firing semi-auto

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

NK sends the following image: This is Hiram Maxim’s bump-firing, semi-automatic lever action. Looks like the recoil of the weapon cocks it. NK says: This particular design was actually produced in England in 1885 and was adopted by the Turkish army who were already very happy with their standard lever-action Winchesters.

STOP! Or I’ll say Stop again.

Monday, February 5th, 2007

In England, stuff you can’t make up: Jump up and down and shout to beat street crime Witnesses to violent street crime should try to ‘distract’ attackers by honking their car horns or even ‘jumping up and down’. That’s according to Labour’s Police Minister. Active resistance (preferably while armed) is usually the best method. But […]

Oh Nos a Knife!

Friday, January 12th, 2007

In England: Britain’s advertising watchdog criticized Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana Wednesday for a campaign showing models brandishing knives. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the industry regulator, upheld more than 150 complaints from people concerned that the stylized pictures glorified and condoned violent crime. Oh Britain, what happened to you?

Putting Nut Back In Gun Nut

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Every once in a while I have to remind people that I am a crazy-assed gun nut. It’s even more fun with friends and family because, well, they never expect it. So, I sat down figuring I’d write some elegant, well-thought out, convincing piece on freedom, sovereignty, and responsibility that detailed precisely why I am […]

Is a second Civil War in America possible?

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I wrote about Orson Scott Card’s new novel “Empire” and commented on how this book has confounded the far left. The premise of the book is a second American Civil War between the Blue States and the Red States. Is there an issue that could spark a shooting Civil War between Blue State America and […]

Knife Amnesty Yields Neat Knives

Monday, December 4th, 2006

During England’s recent knife amnesty, a variety of homemade cutting and puncturing weapons were turned in. I wonder how many weren’t turned in. We are pleased that the owners’ have been responsible and handed them in. We would urge anyone who has home-made weapons to take the same route and surrender them at one of […]

Odd second amendment case

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Here’s the presser: A United States citizen who now lives in Great Britain has joined with the country’s leading gun owner rights organization in a federal lawsuit that says nonresident citizens are unfairly being targeted by existing laws that restrict gun ownership to those who live in the U.S. Attorneys William B. Mateja, a principal […]

Across the pond

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

The Independent asks: The Big Question: Can America ever be weaned off its love affair with guns? No. See, unlike the Brits, it would require weaning. In England, it happened despite their gun culture. Bear in mind that England is a country whose press is terrified by BB guns and knives. And check this out: […]

Quote of the day

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Gunner: Now the kidnapping and murder is already illegal. Another simple law will not stop bad people. What will is a nice jacketed hollow point fired from a .357 magnum at close range

Another terror attack?

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Yeah, there’s the plane thing in England but a potential small scale item happened in Ohio. Via R. Neal, comes this: Two men were charged Wednesday with money laundering in support of terrorism after authorities said they found airplane passenger lists and information on airport security checkpoints in their car. Deputies stopped Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, […]

Geneva applies

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

The AFP: The Pentagon pledged to respect the rights of “war on terror” suspects, as the US Senate began looking into new ways to prosecute detainees at its Guantanamo Bay detention center. In a memo, Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England instructed US military leadership “to promptly review all relevant directives, regulations, policies, practices and […]

Meanwhile across the pond…

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Do you every wonder just how goofy the people over in England can be? I do. Ever wonder about where some of the goofy ideas the UN comes up with? Maybe they come from places like the The Euston Manifesto. Here are a few snippets: A. Preamble We are democrats and progressives. We propose here […]

Rage against the machine

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Seems that in England, folks don’t like traffic cameras. So much so, that they’re destroying them. Here’s some pics of the mangled cameras.

More on Ford & Schumer and the Southern Disconnect

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Realted to this, R. Neal: …Howard Dean campaign workers from New England, wearing Birkenstocks and blue jeans and hippie haircuts, are standing in an Iowa living room explaining what is important to rural voters in Iowa and why they should support Dean in the primary. They were talking instead of listening, and lecturing instead of […]

Big brother’s little helper

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

CCTV to spot concealed firearms: For Loughborough University’s multi-environment deployable universal software application (Medusa, see PDF) project, CCTV footage of people carrying concealed firearms will be analyzed to identify characteristics associated with the behaviour of criminals (body stance, gait, movement and eye contact with cameras) before they commit a gun-related crime. This information will be […]

No matter where you go, big brother is there

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

In England, anyway: British offenders who fail to pay their court fines could receive a text message warning them “to pay up or get locked up.” Under plans outlined by the government Thursday, magistrates courts in England and Wales are to look at sending messages by text or email to fine evaders and those who […]

And we ship them to Canada too

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Seen at Alphecca: The U.S. attorney for New Hampshire is firing back against charges that lax gun control laws in northern New England are partly responsible for an increase in gun crimes in Boston. U.S. Attorney Thomas Colantuono told Foster’s Sunday Citizen that’s an “urban myth” that doesn’t stand up to the facts.

This turns my stomach

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

This product, make because of a desperate situation, simply disturbs me. A product being sold by James McAdams of England is so wrong on so many levels. It is reported that 50% of people in London are worried about security and sleep with some form of self-defence to hand, for use against intruders. The ‘Safe […]

Live free or there

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Bruce reports: Pointing to the rising number of shootings in Boston, Mayor Thomas M. Menino is calling for a “handgun summit” in New England and raised the possibility of random police searches of cars crossing into the state to intercept illegal weapons. That is absolutely amazing. What about that pesky fourth amendment?

Gun crime up 150%

Monday, October 24th, 2005

No, not here but in England.

On the legitimacy of law

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Via Gunner, comes this story: For anyone who has ever said “there oughta be a law,” a Queens politician is offering the opportunity of a lifetime. Assemblyman Jimmy Meng (D-Flushing) is sponsoring a “Make Your Own Law” contest – inviting his constituents to write legislation with the promise that the best proposal will be introduced […]

Sport

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

The Beeb: The government has been urged to relax gun laws which make it illegal for Britain’s top pistol shooters to train in England, Scotland and Wales. Home Secretary Charles Clarke has given special permission for pistol events to be staged at the London 2012 Olympics. But British team members face having to do all […]

Cool toys

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Head has plans to build a twin-gun Gatling rig with two AK type rifles. 900-1,000 rounds per minute. Sweet. And legal. And check out these shredders. Christ, they can shred a BMW. Update: Oh, a local man bought a tank: The tank even came with desert tan, a working turret that moves around in menacing […]

Crime in Britain

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

Alphie has up part three in his series on the rise in violent crime and gun crime in England since it essentially banned gun ownership.

Guns and baloney

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Via Phelps, we learn that James Wolcott is a dumb ass. Note: I don’t really thing Mr. Wolcott is a dumbass but since he spent a good portion of the piece insulting Glenn Reynolds in particularly childish ways, I figured I’d show him a faster way to insult people without boring readers. I guess it […]

Let’s play a game

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

This game is called Guess who’s lying. A local police officer shot a woman’s dog (which the press dutifully points out is a pit bull mix). The pit bull mix was shot in the head with a .40 caliber handgun, was treated by a vet, and is still alive [Damn, tough dog or weak ammo […]

Even when they speak out, they’re still wrong

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Laura Washington wrote a piece a while back that just reeked of hysteria an misinformation. Some snippets: Political leaders nourish culture of deadly gun violence No, they don’t. We have become inured to “a culture of death.” That’s what the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence calls it. Using the Brady Bunch as a reference? […]

Decisions, decisions

Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

In anticipation of Buy a Gun day, I’m mulling over what I want to buy. As such, here’s sort of the wish list: The Walther P-22 with a sound suppressor: Fun toy, quiet and good for backyard plinking. As a bonus, the suppressor can be used on Mr. Plinkie. Either a Springfield SOCOM or Springfield […]

Random Gun Stuff

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Robert Douglas is back sporting a new AKM with info on how to build your own. A detailed must read for any AK junkies out there. Head has the lowdown on cartridge sizes. In a follow up to Maryland’s ballistic fingerprinting kerfuffle, the legislature has proposed repealing the law. In Louisiana, the police can’t account […]

Les had more

Thursday, January 13th, 2005

Well, Les did. I miss Thursday gun links. Les asks: So, what guns are you buying in the new year? I’m not sure what I will get this year, however here’s my current wish list: An AK (this I will definitely get this year). I’m torn between building one like this or converting a Saiga. […]
