More on Kavanaugh

Seems good on the second amendment. The fourth? Not so much.

A civil rights victory

This seems like a big deal:

DOJ, SAF REACH SETTLEMENT IN DEFENSE DISTRIBUTED LAWSUIT

[snip]

SAF and Defense Distributed had filed suit against the State Department under the Obama administration, challenging a May 2013 attempt to control public speech as an export under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), a Cold War-era law intended to control exports of military articles.

Under terms of the settlement, the government has agreed to waive its prior restraint against the plaintiffs, allowing them to freely publish the 3-D files and other information at issue. The government has also agreed to pay a significant portion of the plaintiffs attorneys fees, and to return $10,000 in State Department registration dues paid by Defense Distributed as a result of the prior restraint.

Significantly, the government expressly acknowledges that non-automatic firearms up to .50-caliber including modern semi-auto sporting rifles such as the popular AR-15 and similar firearms are not inherently military.

The next SCOTUS judge: Brett Kavanaugh

I’m just now getting around to it because of stuff. But last night, Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to replace Kennedy. The bought and paid for astroturf protesters were ready to go with pre-printed signs with various names on them. And ABC and the women’s march folks had their opposition pre-printed with the judge’s name spelled wrong or with XX. It didn’t matter who the next nominee was, they were going to be literally Hitler immediately. So, what does the gun community think?

NRA endorses him.

SAF endorses him.

NSSF endorses him.

The anti-gun astroturf does not.

Dave Kopel and Ed Whelan have some detail on how he has ruled on second amendment issues. But don’t expect him to be perfect on the issue.

He was the dissenter in Heller 2.

I was hoping for Barrett but Kavanaugh seems like a safe choice.

The new civility

Why are anti-gun activists so violent?

It’s a phrase I’ve used here a lot. And it typically applies to leftists in general and anti-gun loons specifically. Since Trump’s election, I have gotten quite a few chuckles watching the left and the media (but I repeat myself) melt down, sometimes in hysterical fashion. I’ve seen the creation of safe spaces and trigger warnings and micro aggressions. All of which are made up. If you can’t handle what’s happening around you, it’s not someone else’s fault. But I digress.

I supposes that after one emerges from all that SJWing and realizes it was for naught, stage 2 is violence. Remember when someone ran Sanders from a restaurant? Well, there’s a lot more than that now:

The left is ginning up violence. Listen to Maxine Waters.

Rand Paul has been attacked twice. Well, three times if you count the attempted mass shootings of Republican senators.

A 16 year old was attached for wearing a Trump hat.

More of these little fascists verbally berate Mitch McConnell.

And someone stalked the Kent State gun girl and threatened to assault her in a restaurant.

And you have reporters celebrating this stuff.

They really need to stop. Going down the road to violence is not going to end very well for anybody.

And the one that takes the cake is one Michael Sean Winters:

To my friends in the Republican political and legal establishment who have not stood up to Trump: When the revolution comes, you are on your own, and I will be clamoring not for mercy but for a seat next to the guillotine, where I can do my knitting.

I was not a Trump supporter. But if the left resorts to this sort of thing, it’s going to end in a way they won’t like. Of course, this little pansie probably thinks others are going to get the revolution on for him. Rest assured, he won’t lift a finger.

Organizers of pro-gun rallies lament low turnout

Here’s the problem with that: They were in DC, LA and Chicago. How many gun rights folks live there or would go there?

Plus gun owners typically have to go to work.

In Chicago

A pair robbed a bank with a stolen AK. It doesn’t look like they had the sense to steal a magazine though.

But 90% support gun control

A media/anti-gun trope has been that 90% of NRA members support whatever gun control law they want. Well, the NRA polled it’s members and, yeah, not so much:

92 percent oppose banning the sale of firearms between private citizens.
92 percent oppose background checks on the sale of firearms between private citizens.
89 percent oppose banning so-called assault weapons.
93 percent oppose gun registration.
91 percent SUPPORT laws to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental illnesses.

Happy Independence Day

I’m at an unsecured, undisclosed location that has a nice beach and adult beverages. Happy 4th. Irregularly scheduled blogging to resume in a few days.

Talk amongst yourselves.
