10 year old suspended for gun video on youtube

Kid shows various guns in youtube video (I can’t actually find the video because the press sucks and doesn’t understand complex things like hyperlinks) and is suspended. He made no threats. It doesn’t seem to me that he broke any sort of school rules so why the suspension? Also, the incident is being investigated by the police. What are they investigating? What is the crime?

I’d lawyer up and sue.

Secret Warrants

Some scary bills:

Two bills recently introduced by Gov. Bob McDonnell would permanently seal search warrants issued to use a tracking device to follow a suspect.

Such warrants would be unsealed only at the request of a prosecutor or defendant. Typically, most search warrants become public record 15 days or less after being granted by a judge.

The public’s business should be one in public.

Quote of the day

Seen on facebook, via Billy Beck:

If you want a person’s hands and laws off of your body, get your laws and hands out of their pocketbook.

Odd how that works. If you don’t fund someone’s crazy ideas, then they just stay ideas.

Basic life skills and a thank you

Navigation and fire-starting.

Last weekend when I took my kids and my nephews, we took them to Mike’s range. Mike was a very gracious host who more than went out of his way for us. I was running back and forth between a firing line to help my nephews shoot and the rest area to tend to my kids. Mike happily stepped in and took over instruction with the nephews. I left them for a moment to come back and Mike has them doing drills, magazine changes, and doing a few scenarios. Something I was unable to do, due to tending to kids. Mike is one hell of a guy and I appreciate all he did for us.

Thanks, Mike, it meant a lot to the kids and I!

For the booze cabinet

Vinturi Spirit Aerator. Seems a bit highfalutin to me. And they’re on sale at amazon, but still awful spendy.

Gun control

So simple, a cat understands it. And you need a concealed spray bottle.

A useless gesture: Last week, Mexican President Felipe Calderon unveiled a “billboard” near the U.S. border made of crushed firearms formed into the words, “No More Weapons!”

Yeah, that should do the trick.

Home improvement

Insty: I never thought of a tomahawk as a home improvement tool myself, but I guess it depends on where you live

Well, I’ve used one and the Cold Steel Kukri to clear brush an start a compost pile. YMMV.

Now, that’s a sound suppressor!

Shhhh:

this appealing firearm jams the vocal output of the unwanted up to a distance of 100 feet.
The technology behind it is deafeningly simple. The gun listens in with a directional microphone and plays it back to them with a 0.2 second delay. This creates an environment in which one is simply unable to speak. The technical term for this is Delayed Auditory Feedback.
