In Jackson. In TN, all gambling is technically illegal except certain charitable events. Even your friendly home poker game is illegal. However, the police tend to view it as no problem unless you’re running a for profit gambling operation. This game was charging an entry fee and rake. The authorities tend to take the view that the law, though badly written, was to prevent for profit operations. A lot of leeway there. After all, the police could go arrest Chris Moneymaker for illegal gambling that lead to his win in the WSOP.

I noted earlier that my sources were telling me it that Glocks were hard to find. The Firearm Blog says they’re still having trouble keeping up with demand.
On the right, you’ll notice an ad for Bison Armory. They provide 6.8 SPC AR-15 barrels, components, and complete uppers. They have a blog here. It’s run by a fellow blogger and you can see a sample product here.
Looks like the anti-gun group CeaseFireNJ, headed up by Bryan Miller, is having some financial problems, lost their domain name, and haven’t filled out an IRS Form 990 since 2000. Details here.
Remember when Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence lost their office space and stopped paying employees?
And Maryland Ceasefire had similar issues.
Doesn’t seem like these guys are getting much support. Good.
I haven’t been in a gun shop in a year and a half. My ballistic toolbox has been completely static, with no new acquisitions, and nothing sold off or traded. As a side effect of my lack of gun money, I’ve gotten really good with the stuff I have.
Tennessee Gubernatorial Candidate Zach Wamp, who was nice enough to email me about his stance on gun rights, now has a blog.
DownRangeTV is giving away a Combat Pack featuring the renowned M6X Tactical Laser Illuminator.
Everyone is telling me that February gun sales are through the roof. NSSF confirms:
Despite an ever-worsening economy and slumping retail sales, firearm sales increased in February, continuing an upswing that began after November’s election.
Data from the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) show background checks on the sale of firearms jumped 23.3 percent in February when compared to February 2008. The increase follows a 28 percent rise in January, a 24 percent rise in December and a 42 percent jump in November, when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed.
Also, Brent Mattis writes: What Stimulated the Gun and Ammo Market?
He notes the booming segments of the gun market:
1. Semi-automatic handguns and accessories (magazines mostly)
2. Military-pattern semi-automatic rifles (AR-15’s, AK-clones, etc.) and accessories (magazines and parts)
3. Ammunition and ammunition components
People aren’t buying duck guns.
A military vet was denied a carry permit over care he received for post traumatic stress disorder.
Heh: Only 5 weeks removed and boy, do I miss the fiscal restraint of the Bush administration.
Trying to hold up a gun shop. And:
Three offenders were in custody after an incident at Schrank’s Smoke’N Gun in Waukegan that ended with one offender being shot three times and flown by Flight for Life to a nearby hospital. An employee was also being treated at another area hospital.
Kirsten Gillibrand denies that she has flip-flopped on the issue of gun rights:
gun rights advocates say Gillibrand “flip-flopped” on guns because they believe she’s changing her position for political convenience. Gillibrand’s office says she’s not changing her position at all.
And her statement:
“I have always supported law enforcement having access to all of the information they need to keep us safe, fight against gun violence, and keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
“While there is language in the Tiahrt Amendments that specifically says that it will not limit data sharing for law enforcement purposes, Mayor Bloomberg, Commissioner Kelly, and others have made clear that the law does on occasion obstruct information sharing for law enforcement.
“Therefore, I believe the law needs to be fixed so that it does not limit the ability of law enforcement to gather data needed to identify the gun traffickers that are supplying criminals with guns.
“While I am and always will be a strong proponent of Second Amendment rights, I have also always believed that law enforcement must have all the tools necessary to protect the public from gun violence.”
Either she doesn’t understand the issue or she’s playing both sides.
Granted, a questionable scenario. But a man had his guns confiscated then destroyed or sold. And he was neither arrested nor charged with a crime?
The American Hunters and Shooters Association has a facebook page that says they oppose bans on 50 calibers. Which is funny because their webpage says otherwise.
A little birdy told me that a rep from AHSA will be on Gun Nuts Radio at some point. I’ll be grabbing myself a bag of popcorn and an ice cold Coca Cola for that one.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will form an ad hoc committee to study all of the gun bills that have been filed in the General Assembly this year, Chairwoman Mae Beavers said at the start of a hearing Wednesday.
Sen. Mike Faulk, R-Kingsport, Sen. Doug Overbey, R-Maryville, and Sen. Doug Jackson, D-Dickson, were appointed to the committee.
I’ve met Mike Faulk and he’s a pro-gun guy. He, when contemplating running, actually came to one of our blogger events. Nice guy. Overbey is my state senator and I did not support him because during his tenure in the house, he voted for Naifeh as speaker. His opponent, Finney, received the NRA endorsement. I have no idea where he stands on gun issues, other than his older website said he supported the second amendment.
The measures allowing lawful carry in parks and wildlife areas advances to the general assembly. However:
In the House Judiciary Committee, action was delayed on bills that would prohibit guns in restaurants after 11 p.m. and make it a misdemeanor to reveal who has a handgun permit.
A school in San Diego is ending its participation in competition shooting as part of JROTC. We can’t go teaching kids real gun safety, now can we?
I like my AR but not that much.
More red states in top ten list of online porn users. Guav alleges hypocrisy. I don’t really see that. If we were entirely peopled with folks trying to ban porn, then maybe. But we’re not. Also, from the study, the measure is credit card receipts from major adult entertainment sites. Seriously. People still pay for online porn? It’s free. And, I read somewhere once, you’re always three clicks away from porn on the internets. I’m guess folks in the blue states are more likely to know that.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
