Two sticks and a chain are illegal in NY?
Second amendment incorporation for nanchaku? No, really.
Montana Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester have a message for the Obama administration: they will oppose any gun restrictions the new administration may be considering.
In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, the two Democrats said the Justice Department should enforce existing laws rather than propose additional laws they said could infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Hillsdale College to Host 2nd Amendment Lecture
Washington, D.C. – Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. is hosting its monthly “First Principles on First Fridays,” lecture this Friday, March 6, 2009 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the NRA Headquarters at 11250 Waples Mill Road in Fairfax, Virginia.
NRA: An overwhelming bi-partisan majority of Oklahoma lawmakers have decided to prohibit private employers from asking job applicants if they own a gun. Senate Bill 793, introduced by state Senator Anthony Sykes, R-Moore, passed in the state senate on a vote of 43-1 this week.
Does that really come up?
Cook County’s new plan to confiscate firearms: A proposal requiring Illinois gun owners to report a lost or stolen gun to police within 72 hours or face the possible loss of their right to own a gun was approved by an Illinois House committee Wednesday.
It’s illegal to carry a gun in DC.
And Tam: Any bets on this rifle turning up down there? Clearly we need to close the Squad Car Loophole.
And you can’t carry guns into the sheriff’s department.

I love this hope and change.
The simple fact that some lawmakers think it’s fine for people to legally carry guns into restaurants that serve alcohol shows the lack of thinking behind a list of gun bills making their way through the legislature.
The only lack of thinking I see is the press and editorial boards who keep telling us that Ruby Tuesday’s, state parks, city parks, and other places are these magical places where we should forbid the carrying of weapons. And:
A provision that says people with permits may carry guns into restaurants where booze is available, as long as they’re not drinking, invites deadly situations.
All of Tennessee’s neighbor states, except North Carolina, allow handgun carry in places that serve alcohol (source). And they don’t experience any sort of substantive increase in deadly situations.
And:
In recent years, Tennessee has adopted gun-carry laws under the belief that this will make people safe and prevent crime. As those laws have been adopted, people are discovering it’s inconvenient when they’re carrying weapons and want to enter places like parks and restaurants.
As someone who has had a weapon stolen from a car parked in front of a restaurant that served alcohol, I would think that the current rules invite more problems.
Update: More from Occupied Nashville.
Democrats may be running the House, but the National Rifle Association (NRA) can still stop a bill in its tracks.
House Democratic leaders on Tuesday pulled legislation from the floor that seemingly had nothing to do with guns because the NRA disliked it.
But the police and media seem to be saying otherwise:
Police say they’ve seized 80 firearms in a raid on a Staten Island house and they’ve made one arrest. Officers executed a search warrant around noon Tuesday and discovered the weapons — mostly handguns, rifles and stun guns.
[…]
Investigators say it appears Granato had been buying the guns over the Internet.
And: On Tuesday 03/03/09, at approximately 12:00, members of the NYPD’s Firearms Suppression Division executed a search warrant
At least the name is honest.
Charged with criminal possession of a weapon. In NY, who knows what that means.
The Jackson Sun on The Commercial Appeal publishing a database of handgun carry permit holders:
This bill is a direct response to the blatantly irresponsible use of handgun permit information by the Memphis Commercial Appeal. That newspaper put a searchable database online which initially contained the name of every handgun permit holder in Tennessee, including their addresses and their year of birth. That was a wrongful use of this information. It unnecessarily exposed thousands of Tennesseans to the danger of identity theft. But this bill is equally irresponsible.

New rule in gun hysteria: always mention Mexico. Remember, they’re talking about what are typically single shot, break open, pistols. Like Kevin’s.
Divemedic: In short, more cops were killed by (take your pick) cars, bombs, water, tornados, lightning, pine trees, other cops, or yellow jackets, than were killed by “Assault Weapons.” But then, none of those causes fit the press’ leftist, antigun agenda, do they?

The paper uses the term loophole to describe the law:
For the next three years, as many as 15 D.C. residents will enjoy a right denied their neighbors – the right to own recently banned semiautomatic weapons.
A discrepancy between D.C. laws approved last year enabled the residents to register semiautomatic firearms now listed as illegal in the nation’s capital. D.C. Attorney General Peter J. Nickles said roughly 15 weapons registered in the city “sit in this zone of uncertainty.”
The city’s statutes now state residents must register their guns every three years.
Some enterprising lawyer has three years to build one hell of a gun rights case.
Guy makes guns with interchangeable parts. Out of paper:
In DC, they only want the rights that benefit the state. Not rights that benefit the people.
I’m fascinated by the mentality that says that drug cartels that traffic in contraband won’t be able to get guns once they’re made illegal.
