Registration leads to confiscation

Hawaii has a gun registry. They also have a registry of medical marijuana users. So, you know where this is going? Yup, people who show up on both lists got a letter from the police saying turn in the guns.

The science is settled

Dogs really are smarter than cats. Having two of each, it’s my experience that both are smartish but in different ways. Dogs, being social, are more in tune with social cues from other dogs and humans. Cats don’t give a shit. If you point, a dog will look where you are pointing. A cat won’t give a shit. At most, it will sniff your finger.

If you leave the house for two days and leave your cat enough food for three days, when you get back, there will be food left. If you do the same for the dog, when you get back he’ll have not eaten for two days.

Good

National reciprocity cleared the judicial committee. I’m not going to get my hopes up about it just yet but progress is progress.

Those look cool

Chris talks about some electronic ear plugs. They look like they would, indeed, be more comfortable and convenient. But $300 for ears seems a bit high.

Gun cases at the supreme court

They are not going to SCOTUS:

Perhaps the most noteworthy denials came in two cases involving gun rights: Kolbe v. Hogan, a challenge to Marylands ban on semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines, passed in the wake of the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school; and Norman v. Florida, a challenge to the states ban on the open carrying of guns in public.

Having the supreme court on our side doesn’t really seem to be helping.

“The manager, who was a concealed weapons permit holder, came out and engaged in gunfire in the parking lot,” La Sata said. “The manager fled back inside the building, being chased by the gunman. Another Schlenker employee, who also had concealed weapons permit, engaged in gunfire with the suspect.”

I recently bought one and need to get it to the range

Trouble is, every time I get to the range, I wind up taking new shooters. I spend my time with them and don’t practice with a timer.

Where Great Britain Used To Be is seeing a 27% increase in gun crime. Good thing guns are, effectively, banned there.

Why 2K?

A thing that I’d never really thought about is when someone tests a gun (usually on the internet), the 2,000 round test seems to be some sort of standard. Is there a particular reason for this number? If so, I’m unaware of it.

Also, some tests seem to be just tests and others are “torture tests”. I don’t know why it’s torture to shoot a gun that’s made to be shot.

This seems like a big deal

Jared Keller:

The $700 billion 2018 National Defense Authorization Act that Congress sent to President Donald Trumps desk on Nov. 16 included an amendment that required the Secretary of the Army to transfer a cache of small arms and ammo no longer actively issued for military service to the government-sponsored Civilian Marksmanship Program, including the M1911 and M1911A1 pistols, the M1 Garand, and .22 rimfire rifles.

I’m not a 1911 guy but I think owning one of those would be pretty cool.

Stop touching it

Some churchgoer in Tennessee decided, in a discussion about arming parishioners, to whip out his gun and show it to everyone. Then he shot himself and his wife. This line, though:

He removed the magazine, cleared the chamber, and showed the gun to some of the men in the church. He put the magazine back in, apparently loaded a round in the chamber, and returned the gun to its holster, Parks said.

“Somebody else walked up and said, ‘Can I see it?’ ” Parks said. “He pulled it back out and said, ‘With this loaded indicator, I can tell that its not loaded.’ “

Oh, really?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
