Plaxico Burress: The guns made me do it

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

He says they gave him a ‘false sense of security‘. No, what they gave you was a hole in your groin because you tried to carry a loaded, unholstered gun in your sweatpants. Then, you tried to catch a dropped gun. Don’t do that.

Great spokesman for gun control

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Plaxico Burress, who shot himself in the leg while trying to catch a dropped gun that he was carrying unlawfully and without a holster, will be appearing with the Brady Center People for redemption. That’s a great role model there.

Gun sales up, crime drops

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

According to the FBI report: According to the figures released today by the FBI, the estimated number of violent crimes in the nation declined in 2009 for the third consecutive year. Property crimes also declined in 2009, marking the seventh straight year that the collective estimates for these offenses dropped below the previous year’s total. […]

Charges Dropped

Friday, December 4th, 2009

In regards to a case mentioned a bit back about a SWAT raid in NJ over illegal guns: ALL pending charges were DISMISSED. It turns out that the firearms in question belonged to the man’s father- who possessed them legally and hid the weapons in the house. The family lost track of them after the […]

But guns cause death

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Since 1984, over 112M firearms have been sold. Yet accidental gun deaths dropped.

More on Mayors Against Guns

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Michael Silence addresses my concern that no press outlets have mentioned that, in two weeks, MAIG has lost 50 members. He says that the group is mentioned in small papers. I quickly perused the first few news links articles and I didn’t see one that mentioned that 50 members had dropped out. Granted, I could […]

Law abiding gun owners

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

We’re winning: The number of Floridians with permission to pack heat has jumped nearly 50 percent in three years. In 2005, one year before the state Legislature’s decision to provide anonymity to people holding concealed weapons licenses, there were 347,350 active permits statewide. Now, that number has swelled to about 520,000. Some states ask applicants […]

Gun Polls

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Uncle gets his copy and paste on. Gallup Guru: Two new polls conducted since the Virginia Tech shooting deaths report measures of Americans’ attitudes towards gun control. There is little evidence in either of a surge in support for gun control in the aftermath of the tragedy. An ABC News poll conducted over one day, […]

Mayors Against Guns withdrawal gets press

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Reader Jack mails that the NY Sun has covered the Idaho mayor’s withdrawal from Bloomberg’s anti-gun group: An Idaho mayor has dropped out of Mayor Bloomberg’s coalition against illegal guns, city officials said. The mayor of Idaho Falls, Jared Mr. Bloomberg’s coalition in October, but withdrew earlier this month because of pressure from constituents and […]

Gun control: What politicians do instead of something

Friday, December 1st, 2006

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is challenging The Alliance of Mayor’s Against Guns: U.S. mayors, who have pledged to reduce the criminal use of firearms, continue to ignore the firearm industry’s offer of assistance and cooperation. Instead, the leaders of the mayors’ effort seem more interested in media events than real progress, according to officials […]

Wisconsin Governor and Guns

Monday, September 11th, 2006

I’ve said before that I thought Wisconsin would go CCW soon, as it is one of two states with no provision. Looks like one gubernatorial candidate is pushing the idea: Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Green, who was the keynote speaker at the conference, said that without concealed carry legislation law-abiding hunters are having their rights […]

Lawyers, guns and money – again

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Nemerov: Previously, we examined how gun-rights voting records correlate with campaign contributions from lawyers and law firms during the 2004 election cycle. This bias appears to remain in force for the 2006 cycle. According to the most recent Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) data, lawyers have retaken first place as the largest industry donor at […]

Gun links

Monday, July 17th, 2006

All linky, no thinky. Busy today but here’s some stuff: Gunner has a link to a nifty looking AK scope mount. I dig the Ultimak. Looks like the one gunner likes bolts to the gun to eliminate rocking and travel, which is a problem with most AK receiver mounts. The gun buyback in Memphis nets […]

Trading guns for drugs

Monday, June 19th, 2006

Odd: A man who had drugs and weapons inside his home is going to jail. Alvin Maxwell has been sentenced to 17 months in prison. He pleaded guilty to importing and manufacturing weapons at his home . In exchange, the drug charges were dropped. Police would rather get a gun conviction?

Granny get your gun . . . back

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

This is pretty lame: Susan Gaylord Buxton wants her gun back. She could have a long wait, given how slowly the wheels of justice can grind. Buxton, known from hither to yon as the gun-toting granny, is confused about why Arlington police seized her handgun after she shot an intruder Nov. 9. It’s not as […]

Gun safety

Friday, March 11th, 2005

Cat shoots owner: A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police said. Sniper Kitty denies involvement. I should say that I don’t believe this story at all. Dropped guns typically do not fire. It’s possible, I suppose, […]

More on Democrats and guns

Monday, November 15th, 2004

Even Nicholas Kristof, who is your typical uninformed scaremonger when it comes to guns, is telling the Democrats to give up on gun control: Nothing kills Democratic candidates’ prospects more than guns. If it weren’t for guns, President-elect Kerry might now be conferring with incoming Senate Majority Leader Daschle. Since the Brady Bill took effect […]

Guns and Aesthetics

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2003

I almost made it through the day without blogging guns. Some folks don’t like Glocks apparently. First, my general opinion on guns is based on function not appearance. I own only three guns: an AR15, a Sigarms P229 in 9mm, and a Glock 30. Despite talking about gun rights all the time, my collection is […]

Stop touching it

Thursday, November 21st, 2019

A prosecutor was killed when a gun presented as evidence “went off accidentally”. I’m going to guess someone tried to catch a dropped gun. Don’t do that.

Man shoots self at IPSC match

Tuesday, June 13th, 2017

Tragic: I dont know if the gun even hit the ground, but evidently he dropped or fumbled it And likely tried to catch it. Remember rule 5: Do not try to catch a dropped gun.

Rule 5

Monday, March 2nd, 2015

Do not try to catch a dropped gun

Rule 5

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

As I’ve said before, do not try to catch a dropped gun. But be mindful that some guns actually can fire when dropped. So, maybe amend that to say “do not try to catch a dropped modern day, legitimate carry gun” or some such. Via the Duck.

That spot’s taken

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

I already came up with Rule 5: Do not try to catch a dropped gun. But I’ll let you have Rule 6: Maintain control of your firearm

Stop touching it

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

Also, rule 2. And, I’m guessing, either use a holster or do not catch a dropped gun.

Good question on press coverage

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Someone negligently discharged a firearm. No details on whether it’s the booger hook on the bang switch, trying to catch a dropped gun, or failing to clear a chamber variety (the most common types, based on my experience reading the news). But it’s definitely got the “I was just cleaning it and it went off […]

Rule 5

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Do not try to catch a dropped gun.

Good advice

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Don’t tuck your gun into your underoos: Advocating Mexican carry is your skivvies is a horrific idea, and will lead to a dropped gun, or worse, a panicked shooter attempting to catch a dropped gun. There’s a reason why no body but Plaxico Burress tucks their Glock into their sweatpants. The elastic bands aren’t so […]

News you can use

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

A while back, some smart cracker told you something he learned: Do not try to catch a dropped gun. Along that same line, comes another bit of advice that may save your life: Don’t try and catch the round you’re ejecting. Don’t put your hand over the ejection port. Keep your hand away from it […]

More rule 5

Friday, April 1st, 2011

This started as a comment here but turned long and their spam filter hates me. First, someone is actually arguing about catching a dropped gun. Hey, if that’s your thing, go for it. But I’m not going to the range with you. Sure, your old gallery gun may fire when dropped. But my Glock definitely […]

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
