So, a couple of morons decide to clean weapons over a bucket of beer. A toddler winds up getting shot. Good thing for the guys involved they were police officers or they would have been charged with a crime. Up next, a non police officer stupidly leaves his weapon where is kid can find it. Kid shoots the other kid. He was arrested after the funeral.
And it begs the question that Tam asked so eloquently:
Something tells me, however, that this was the kind of guy who didn’t put covers on the electical (sic) outlets. Or store dangerous chemicals in safe places. Or cook on the stove with the pot handles turned inwards. And if the child had been electrocuted, or drank a tall frosty glass of Drano, or died from severe burns after wearing a pot of boiling Ramen for a hat, would he still be free to get a chance to contribute to the death of another one of his children while we all shook our heads at the fateful “accident”? Are some kinds of negligence more heinous than others?
Of course it’s more heinous! It involved a gun!
Update: And, yes, I’m fully aware that the second is skewed by the fact the child died. However, drinking beer and shooting someone seems far more negligent than leaving a weapon out.
Lawyers for Mayor Bloomberg are asking a judge to ban any reference to the Second Amendment during the upcoming trial of a gun shop owner who was sued by the city.
I wonder why. And:
“Apparently Mayor Bloomberg has a problem with both the First and the Second amendments,” Lawrence Keane, the general counsel of a firearms industry association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, said.
GunPundit has a correction to the RTC data from the other day. Same trend, though.
Our side corrects their mistakes.
When I first read this article, the ending was quoting the guy saying something like In Texas, we know the best way to fight crime is to shoot back. Or some such. Now, it’s gone. Odd.
Guns easily available in Chicago? That cannot happen because they have all that gun control.
or maybe Nearth?
Then, we’d all be safe. For now, people keep hurting themselves:
Investigative Report: Nail gun safety under fire as injuries soar

Here’s an idea: Don’t point the nail gun at yourself. And next:
Medical know-how raises suicide risk for doctors
Last link via Robb, who says: First off, I say a 3 day waiting period to obtain prescription drugs is in order, as a cool off time to ensure the person isn’t going to commit suicide with them. Also, we need stricter background checks on doctors to make sure they don’t do these kinds of things.
I still can’t figure out why these dumb, cousin-humping rednecks won’t vote for Obama.
Update: SayUncle blast from the past Southern Culture on the Campaign Trail
In other news, back in 2004 I wrote posts longer than four lines.
Some people ask why I refer to KnoxViews as “Progressiveville”. Far left liberals have “literal interpretation syndrome”. They lack the ability to nuance anything that has certain liberal keywords. Few blogs have such predictable knee jerk reactions as KnoxViews.
Case in point. Rich Hailey writes a good post asking important questions about modern voter apathy. But he uses a word which activates the “Progressive Citizens Brigade” aka the people of Progressiveville. You see, in todays enlightened age you cannot say “poll tax”, even in a historical reference. If you do for any reason you will be called a racist and a sexist.
This is modern liberalism. They see themselves as the deciders. They will chose the words of the social lexicon. They will decide which words are appropriate. God help you if you use the wrong word.
Code Pink is now resorting to witchcraft to beef up the number of its supporters protesting Berkeley’s controversial Marine Corps Recruiting Center.
The women’s anti-war group has told ralliers to come equipped with spells and pointy hats Friday for “Witches, clowns and sirens day,” the last of the group’s weeklong homage to Mother’s Day.
“Women are coming to cast spells and do rituals and to impart wisdom to figure out how we’re going to end war,” Zanne Sam Joi of Bay Area Code Pink told FOXNews.com.
The group’s week of themed protests, which included days to galvanize grannies and bring-your-daughter-to-protest, appears to have done little to boost its flagging numbers.
What’s more, Robbins noted that the ATF was able to trace the SKS rifle used to gun down Liczbinski to a gun show in Fayettville, N.C. He said that because it had been bought at a gun show, the owner did not have to undergo a background check – another proposal that’s been blocked by the gun lobby.
If it was traced to a gun show, then it would have to have had a background check performed at the show else there would be no way to trace it.
Tam has a lengthy read on the alleged failing S&W internal locks.
My opinion: unnecessary. When it comes to weapons, keep it simple. A firearm should do two things: 1) Go bang when I pull the trigger. 2) Don’t go bang when I’m not pulling the trigger. Mechanically, that’s it. Adding another mechanical device adds one more thing that could fail. Not a fan. It’s also why I’m not a fan of manual safeties: just one more thing to fail.
Why do DC police need assault rifles to defend against criminals with high-powered weapons? Don’t those criminals know that those weapons should be locked up or disassembled in their house?
Seen at LawDog’s. Strangely, taking care of me when I am sick or old on the government dime isn’t in there. Who knew?
A police officer was killed in Philly by a murderous bastard with an SKS recently. Philly has a ton of crime and murder and, gosh darnit, they can’t pass any gun laws because of preemption. They seem to think those would help. After many years, it looks like somebody in the press may have actually read my site because this exchange occured:
Police commissioner Charles Ramsey became incensed at the news conference when a reporter asked if, in fact, the weapon that killed Sgt. Liczbinski might not be covered by an assault weapon ban:
“Let me just say this — if it’s not an assault weapon by definition, then add it to the frickin’ list. Add it to the frickin’ list! We don’t need it.”
Hats off to the reporter who asked. And if there’s ever a frickin’ list, they’ll eventually add everything to it.
Meanwhile, Mayor Nutty is harder on NRA members than he is a low-life murderers. Nice.
I forgot but The Gun Blogs turned two. I just renewed the domain but, given that the site hasn’t quite taken off like I thought it would, that may not have been worth it.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
