Instead of passing all these gun controls, try aggressively prosecuting those that commit violent crimes with guns. Seems to work:
By 2007, Richmond had dropped off the list of the top 25 most dangerous cities. This in a state with some of the most liberal gun ownership laws in the country.
Children in Chicago’s greatest fear is being shot. Because it happens so often:
Half know a friend or relative who has been shot at, with the vast majority of those knowing multiple people who have been fired upon — as many as 10, 11 and even 13.
And this:
If the city were gun-free, wrote one fourth-grade girl at Sexton, “It would be more quiet and I would love Chicago but that won’t happen, so I hate it.”
But it is gun-free. By law.
The alleged NRA spy story has now made the AP. At least the AP is honest enough to say Gun-control groups fear top activist was NRA spy. I have no doubt she was a mole but there is doubt about whether she was paid by NRA. I mean, it’s not like she sneaking a cell phone camera in and holding yourself out as someone else is beyond the gun control movement?
And here’s your quote of the day from Bryan Miller:
In the battle of ideas with the gun lobby, we’re at a constant disadvantage because we’re honest.
That’s pretty rich, right there. Here’s some of Bryan Miller’s past honesty.
So, can someone explain to me why I have not been reading The Firearm Blog? Lots of interesting gun porn and stuff, like this Korobov TKB-022 experimental assault rifle
Speaking of deflecting from the content of the letter, Kevin has his latest post. It’s a long one so grab a sandwich.
And if you have dessert with your sandwich, when you’re done you can read Robb’s response.
The Democrat bill to enforce the Heller decision is available for download at Sebastian’s. He notes it’s better than the Republican bill. Personally, I think that a bill isn’t necessary and that the feds should go in and arrest Mayor Fenty and DC’s city council and charge them under USC 18 § 242. Deprivation of rights under color of law.
I thought it was a good thing to be all Constitutional, militia, in your face, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED, and talking about shooting the bastards? So, how does that deflect from the content of the letter? It’s almost like you’re saying don’t scare white people, or something.
A bit back, we noted how a guy in NY had his guns taken because he dared petition his congressperson for a redress of grievances? Well, David has interviewed him:
On a subsequent trip to her office, Razzano was informed he was not one of McCarthy’s constituents due to redistricting, and his representative was Peter King. He then went to the Board of Elections and obtained a certified copy stating he was in her district.
When he went back to McCarthy’s office with his “proof of constituency,” a detective approached him, told him to leave and to stop “annoying” Rep. McCarthy because he was not a constituent. The detective escorted Razzano down the elevator—at the bottom, when the doors opened, Rep. McCarthy was there. She ignored Razanno when he tried to speak to her and the detective escorted him out the building.
The very next day, Razanno got a call from his mother who lives a few doors down—the police were at her house demanding his guns or they would arrest him. He was told there was a 911 call about him, and he needed to surrender his firearms for a 90-day “cooling off period.” In other words, they would take the guns or they would take him. It was portrayed to him by the confiscating officer as “not a big deal.”
The police took all of his legally registered guns—nine rifles and 15 handguns, and they also seized his fiancée’s handgun. This despite no statutory authority to do this– It’s important here to note that this was not a domestic or any other kind of violence incident. Razzano didn’t even get a receipt for the seized property until a week later—after he requested one.
And that’s to say nothing of the election fraud and lack of due process of law.
No, McCain’s ad is not racist.
For those about to Barack we salute you Obama is not the anti-Christ. But he’s not the second coming either, which I think was the point of McCain’s ad.
Of the 90 day background check process to get a handgun carry permit in TN if they’re going to give them to felons any way:
It took one year from the date Bedford was issued a permit for Tennessee officials to determine that he should have been barred from carrying a gun.
A year? then what were you guys doing when you were supposed to be conducting his background check?
Anti-gunners and the press (but I repeat myself) are still screaming over this anti-gunner turns out to be pro-gun spy business.
In the Philly inquirer comes this bit:
“She was in the room for discussions about what legislative goals would be set, what the strategy would be to pursue those goals, and was, it appears, being paid to share that information with the gun lobby,” said Freedom States Alliance board member Angus McQuilken. “It is shameful.”
Shameful. This is Angus McQuilken. Of the Freedom States Alliance. A group that intentionally set itself up to look like it could be a pro-gun group calling deception by others shameful.
Our favorite gun dealer Josh Sugarmann is all butthurt about how soulless and bad and evil and stuff it was. And he’s lying.
Democracy Now refers to the spy as a Leading Gun Control Activist. Really? Signing up for newsletters and going to to events makes one a Leading Gun Control Activist?
Meanwhile, NRA reminds us that a few years back PETA was infiltrating labs.
It’s kinda funny because just this weekend the Mrs. bought that exact item for the kids. She was going to take it back to the store but my son really liked it.
Seems we started a trend. What kind of dog is this one?
I definitely see some bully in him.
An article in the local paper about blogs covering the church shooting that occurred last week in Knoxville quotes a comment from ChrisB.
Robert: A week among several thousand people with assault rifles, copious ammunition, knives, et, et. Nobody controlling them except their own culture, the gun-nuttiest of the NRA-assault rifle, camo-clad gun nuts.
The Gun Doctor, of the Free Duracoat Promotion, is holding a raffle to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Tickets are $5 and you can win this bad boy err girl:
Thirdpower notes the recent mailer from the Brady Campaign To Use Tragedy To Get Donations is full of righteous indignation because the evil gun lobby may have deceived them. Third reminds them of their own bouts of dishonesty.
Meanwhile, Xrlqy Wrlqy says we should maintain the moral high ground and not lie just because the other side does.
And, speaking of lying, this is hysterical:
This reinforces what we have long known, that the gun lobby will go to any lengths, no matter how unethical, to protect the profits of the gun industry in this country, even at the expense of the over 30,000 Americans who lose their lives to gun violence each year
So, how much deception is in that one sentence?
So, the wealthy suburbs of Chicago keep repealing their gun bans. Chicago was all set to fight their gun ban. But, now, it looks like Daley may give up:
Mayor Daley today cracked the door open to abandoning the costly fight to uphold Chicago’s 1982 handgun freeze—if he can fashion a replacement ordinance that protects the safety of first-responders.
I am confused how the law-abiding having guns is a danger to first-responders. And:
Now that both suburbs have thrown in the towel—and newspaper editorials have urged Daley to do the same to save millions in legal costs on a fight he cannot win—the mayor appears to be having second thoughts.
Here’s one such editorial. Thirdpower notes they’ve given up on even appearing objective.
Not sure why they need this in the UK where guns are banned but:
Criminals who use firearms may find it much harder to evade justice in future, thanks to an ingenious new bullet tagging technology developed in the UK.
The tiny tags – just 30 microns in diameter and invisible to the naked eye – are designed to be coated onto gun cartridges. They then attach themselves to the hands or gloves of anyone handling the cartridge and are very difficult to wash off completely.
Been busy most of the weekend. I guess sitemeter was crashing sites and stuff. I dunno if it’s fixed. Can you hear me now?
Per the TN Department of Safety, they now require proof of citizenship. There’s also this bit:
A permit holder can submit a Renewal Application at any Driver License Center or renew by mail. To receive a renewal application by mail call 1-866-849-3548. The renewal application must be complete and signed by the applicant. The application, CERTIFIED PROOF of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (no photocopies; documents will NOT be returned) and the $50.00 fee payable by check or money order, can be mailed to the following address
So, basically, you can no longer renew by mail? Call your reps.
Update: In comments, Vance points out:
I read this to mean they want a certified copy of your birth certificate, which you can get for $7-$12 from the Tennessee Department of Vital Statistics, which just makes it a little more difficult, not impossible.
A certified copy is still copy, so I dunno.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
