Blackhawk

One of the things I’ve not mentioned yet from the ParaUSA event was Blackhawk. They provided us with holsters, belts, magazine carriers and more. Two cool things:

Their holster brand manager’s name was Chuck Buis, which is a cool name for a guy in the gun industry.

They have intentionally bought facilities that were shipping operations overseas and retained the workforce in the US. In other words, companies were moving overseas and Blackhawk bought their facilities and kept the existing staff on hand to keep jobs in America. That’s a helluva way to enhance customer loyalty.

The gave us each two holsters: a competition type holster without a retention lock and a SERPA holster. The SERPA is pretty slick because in order to draw the weapon, your index finger has to exactly where it should go to ensure a safe draw. That is, to draw, your finger must go along side the trigger guard of the gun.

I liked the holster a lot. It was fast and lightweight. I plan on buying another SERPA for my Glock 30. Currently, they don’t make one for the G30 but Chuck said a G21 holster will work.

Match Coverage

Still lots of coverage and pics of matches over at DownrangeTV.

Chicks and guns: Jessie Abbot and Randi Rogers video.

Video: Revolver Squad.

More: Limited Super Squad Video.

Mr. Completely covers the GLOCK classic.

Speaking of ‘how to’

Xavier has a nice piece on taking new shooters to the range.

Since it’s the 21st century

ATF decided to join the 20th century. I guess they realized this whole electronic records thing wasn’t just a fad.

Gun Cleaning

Jay has a how-to.

One of the things that I learned at the Para USA blogger event that I never would have thought to try was brake parts cleaner, available in the automotive section at WalMart for $1.97. Works great. Takes all the gunk out with minimal scrubbing effort. Since it also, basically, degreases the metal parts, a good lube is required after. But the brake cleaner worked great.

Isn’t that what blogs are for?

Seen at Michael’s:

In a development that could titillate political partisans of all stripes, a new Web application (SpinSpotter – ed) promising to spot bias in news stories will launch on Monday, Sept. 8, just as this ferociously contested election season shifts into high gear.

Is there any computer with that much processing power? And this is hysterical:

Soon SpinSpotter will add a feature that will alert readers if a story uses suspiciously similar language to a press release.

That would probably be an end to most news stories.

This is not the misogyny you’re looking for

So, Barack Babe Obama said: You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig.

People decry it as sexist. That’s just dumb. It’s just an expression and a riff on the pitbull in lipstick remark made by Palin. Nothing to see here. But if you want some real sexist commentary, go here.

Guns in DC

The bill to strip DC of its control over gun laws gets a write up. And it’s filled with lies from people that should know better:

“I’m very concerned that, under that legislation, the gun-rights advocates could challenge almost any restriction we’ve placed on gun ownership,” Nickles said. Opponents said they feared that if the bill became law, people could carry loaded semiautomatic weapons or .50-caliber sniper rifles in the city.

Followed by:

But supporters said such worries were wildly exaggerated.

Because the WaPo can’t print that these guys are full of shit?

It’s like the powers that be are reading Brady press releases or something. You would think that a police chief might actually know something about guns and gun laws. But you’d be wrong.

Sad but true

A muffled heh.

Project Safe Neighborhoods

Coming to Memphis. Knoxville has been involved in the program for a few years now. Basically, it increased funding to prosecute crimes involving guns.

Acquisition

Taurus acquires Rossi. Should also update on News section of website.

Science: Stop it before it kills someone!

So, scientists are looking to flip the switch on the big ass doohickie that will kill us all. Or not. Depends who you talk to, someone educated or someone thumping a holy book. Supposedly, this will simulate the universe at the approximate time of the Horrendous Space Kablooey. And don’t even get me started on The Universe.

In equally scary but also equally kinda cool news, scientists are on the verge of creating life. And I, for one, welcome our new protocells built from fatty molecules overlords.

See you tomorrow. . . maybe.

It might get a little moonbatty in here

But it’s the armed moonbats, so that’s OK.

Seems we got DUed (pronounced duh’ed?)

Mail Order Felony

Careful what you order for your gun, it could put you in violation of gun law.

Reminds me of the thing in Guns Magazine a bit back. Anyone know if they ever printed a clarification? I’ve not seen it if they did.

When it comes to gun laws, the enthusiast acts at his peril.

Update: Sebastian says yes, then yes, then no citing the Thompson Case. Basically, a person who wants to risk financial ruin and federal prison could fight the case and win. But, since ATF disregards the courts regularly, I don’t want to be the guy to challenge it. Yes, it is probably lawful but you will still get arrested for it.

Hired guns for me

But not for thee:

“What!” Obama exclaimed in mock horror, as the audience laughed. “Hold on a sec. Maybe that home-schooling is all right. One reason I have to win here is so that I’ve got Secret Service around my girls at all times. They carry guns.”

Whither Pennington

All kinds of blood of the dead to dance in, and no blogging from the Brady Campaign? Did band camp intervene or lack of interest?

Gun Sales Up

NSSF notes an increase in the amount of firearm excise taxes paid.

And S&W reports a good quarter.

Sales up among women. As discussed at the Para Blogger Event, even though women are the fastest growing demographic, their piece of the overall firearms pie is pretty small. We need more chicks and guns.

It’d be a full time job

Correcting the Washington Post and anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) on HR 6691:

Note that there’s nothing in that statement regarding the carrying of firearms (either concealed or openly) in public. Also, remember when I said HR 6691 changes specific sections of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975? Well, D.C. law regarding concealed and open carrying of firearms is not contained within that act (sec. 7-2501.01(10), D.C. Official Code). It’s contained in 22-4504, which deals with criminal law.

Update: And:

In short, they are freaking out because the laws in Washington D.C. will be substantially identical to most of the 50 states, with the exception that carrying a loaded firearm on your person will still be unlawful.

Well, can’t have DC thinking they have as many rights as states, can we?

A moose once bit my sister

Barack Pulu Si Bagumba* Obama mocks hunters:

Palin’s bio is “compelling,” Obama said.

The crowd booed. “No, it’s an interesting story.” More boos. “No, no, it is. I mean that sincerely. Mother, governor, moose shooter.”

* bonus points if you get that one without googling.

Ya know what we’ve not seen in a while?

All AK-47 all the time.

It will start soon, though. Gun seizures up in Memphis:

The shelves inside the Memphis Police Department’s Property and Evidence Room are overflowing with guns. 5,000 handguns, shotguns and semi-automatic assault-style rifles are currently tagged in the inventory and more are being brought in every day.

“We get at least one AK-47 a week,” says Lt. Richard Borgers, the property room manager. “And we don’t like to see those. The bullets can pierce our body armor.”

Borgers showed Eyewitness News Everywhere a variety of guns that have been recovered from criminals on the streets of Memphis this year.

“Before, we were taking in maybe 45 to 50 guns a week,” says Lt. Borgers. “Then when they ramped up Blue Crush, we started seeing an increase down here. We’re up to 63 guns a week.”

“Am I totally shocked?” asks Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin about the prevelance of AK-47’s in Memphis. “No, because those guns are just too easy for criminals to get their hands on.”

Hunting rifles will pierce your vests too since they’re generally more powerful than an AK.

Change you can believe in

Seems folks don’t really buy into Obama’s claims on guns:

Gun sales are going boom around the country as gun owners and gun advocates brace for a potential Democrat in the White House for the first time in almost 10 years.

Democrats, meanwhile, say there’s no reason to worry that presidential hopeful Barack Obama would attempt to curtail access to most guns, though that hasn’t stopped the buying spree.

“You’d be surprised,” said Jeff Mercer, manager of George’s Pawn and Gun Shop on High Street. “It’s people of all races, too. People are scared.”

Across town at The Gun Doctor and More on Glencrest Lane, owner Bob Godell said he has also noticed a similar trend.

“We call it the Obama factor. People are very concerned that if a Democrat is elected they will see more restrictions on handguns and assault rifles.” Godell said. “I think as a result of that we have seen steady handgun sales, and there’s been an increase in the sale of assault rifles like AK-47s, as well.”

Mainstream

Who is more mainstream when it comes to guns? Palin, Obama, or anti-gun hack Horowitz?

Hmmm, now what’s different?

McCain leads the polls by four points.

Full Auto Pistols

Glock 18 v. Beretta 93R.

And I hear she was once a Muslim

So, every time you look up, there are all these tales that point out how awful Sarah Palin is. Mostly those seem to be untrue (see here, here, and here).

The one that seems to stick though is the bridge to nowhere thing. Seems that, in the great tradition of political expediency, she was for vote-buying before she was against it.

And she’s mean to moose. Well, it’s hard to kill them and be nice.

High Capacity

Behold, the Armatac Industries 150 round magazine in action:

But for $625, I could just carry a spare AR-15 and some mags.

Why the news is like porn

Don’t tell anybody, but it’s free on the internet.
