Ya know what we’ve not seen in a while?

All AK-47 all the time.

It will start soon, though. Gun seizures up in Memphis:

The shelves inside the Memphis Police Department’s Property and Evidence Room are overflowing with guns. 5,000 handguns, shotguns and semi-automatic assault-style rifles are currently tagged in the inventory and more are being brought in every day.

“We get at least one AK-47 a week,” says Lt. Richard Borgers, the property room manager. “And we don’t like to see those. The bullets can pierce our body armor.”

Borgers showed Eyewitness News Everywhere a variety of guns that have been recovered from criminals on the streets of Memphis this year.

“Before, we were taking in maybe 45 to 50 guns a week,” says Lt. Borgers. “Then when they ramped up Blue Crush, we started seeing an increase down here. We’re up to 63 guns a week.”

“Am I totally shocked?” asks Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin about the prevelance of AK-47’s in Memphis. “No, because those guns are just too easy for criminals to get their hands on.”

Hunting rifles will pierce your vests too since they’re generally more powerful than an AK.

I’m pretty sure any .308 available at walmart will penetrate body armor, car doors, frame houses, even concrete hollow block buildings…FYI!

I think Level IIIA with a ballistic plate will stop one or two 7.63×39 rounds, but most beat cops are wearing IIA with no plates (SWAT and other entry teams will wear the better stuff). Plates will not stop full power rifle cartridges until you get out to some decent ranges. My .45 +P has a decent chance of going through level IIA, incidentally. 185 grains at 1150fps is getting up there. I don’t think a .357 will flinch at IIA, and none of the handgun hunting rounds will have any trouble with it. FN’s 5.7 round will pierce IIA without any trouble IIRC.

Hell, a 30-30 is a touch more powerful than a 7.63×39; why isn’t anyone getting excited over those? And I know a couple of old-timers who can run that lever action pretty damn fast.

Hell, just about ANY centerfire rifle will defeat level IIA, II or even IIIA. Only when you get up to level III does it really start to do a good job with rifle cartridges. Level III is supposed to stop up to 6 shots from 7.62 x 51 Nato ball that travels up to 2800 fps.

I don’t know any, or heard of any line officers that wear anything past IIIA. And as said before, most wear IIA or II. The ONLY level that offers protection agains ACTUAL armor piercing ammo is level IV.

So, by Lt. Richard Borgers logic, they don’t like to see any centerfire rifle ammo. Lt Borgers, it sounds like you need to upgrade your body armor.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
