HK to Turkey: You Don’t Suck And We Don’t Hate You
Obama’s record on firearms triggers run on sales in state
[…]
By midday Wednesday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s “Insta- Check” background check — required for the sale of a firearm and typically about 8 minutes long — was jammed with waits lasting more than two hours.
[…]
Across Colorado, gun shops reported brisk business Wednesday as hunters and gun enthusiasts began to stockpile in anticipation of a Democratic president and Congress whittling away Second Amendment gun rights. The FBI is reporting that gun sales have increased 10 percent over purchases at this point last year.
Jerry Stehman told an endless wave of customers at his Jerry’s Outdoor Sports store in Grand Junction to come back in two hours to pick up their firearm purchases. For the past 10 days, Stehman said, customers have been gathering cases of ammunition and multiple guns.
Meanwhile, Tam offers advice for those hedging their bets. I’d recommend uzi mags too. They are plentiful.
Paul notes we’re playing chicken with the second amendment:
The industry will see a considerable increase in sales of ARs, other black rifles and semi-auto pistols with “hi-cap” mags. During this period the industry will make money hand over fist – at least the black rifle makers and handgun companies will. The traditional hunting companies will see growth but nothing like the others unless they have a strong tactical product line-up.
I guess I need to pick up some kind of WunderNine.
As has been noted, Michael Pfleger’s church is potentially violating its tax exempt status by advocating against NRA endorsed candidates. Armed and Safe says we should report this to Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
Meanwhile, Rusty links to a form you can fill out to inform the IRS about this.
Rachel is moving to where Great Britain Used To Be.
Not sure if I should have more sympathy for the Brits or Rachel.
Joe notes that his meme that anti-gunners are prejudiced is used in an article in MA:
Sigler described Massachusetts as a tolerant state, in terms of race and sexual orientation, but criticized the state’s intolerance towards handguns, saying lawmakers are “[promoting] bigotry against gun owners.” He even proposed that because of these laws, citizens are forced to hide their guns as if they were obscene or wrong, and are ultimately treated as second-class citizens.
Good:
New York permit holder has permit revoked for violation of safe storage requirement, which I gather would require the gun to be locked away. The NY Supreme Court (caveat: that is NOT the highest court in the State, NY follows a strange naming rule for its courts) overturns the revocation, noting that Heller found such a storage requirement unconstitutional.
Also in NY, Tom King is not optimistic.
You don’t say: Online predation is an exaggerated problem.
Not a fan of the HopeyChangey. DOW down 400. S&P 18%.
Good for investment in lead and steel though. Tam has some investment tips.
Blount Countians voted strongly against a half-cent sales tax increase Tuesday.
The countywide referendum was defeated by nearly 13,000 votes with 30,871 people voting against it and 18,124 people supporting it, according to unofficial returns.
Good.
Past coverage here.
I remember the 04 election and how our friends on the left were shitting their pants and spouting off nonsense about how Bush was not their president. Now, our friends on the right are doing the same thing. Have a nice, tall glass of calm your ass down. In January, there will be a new president. You may not dig his ditch but thems the brakes. So, deal with it by holding your elected officials accountable. Not by giving up.
Kurita lost her write in campaign. This after having the primary taken from her by her party for not toeing the line.
Aunt B. brings the ouchie:
You may have cost Kurita the election, but mark my words–she cost you the state. Because the rest of us were sitting here thinking “Oh, well, now we know where the state Democrat’s priorities are; not with us.”
* note: little d
So, for the election last night, I was clinging to my guns. OK, actually, I had to clean the Para 45 because I went to the range Sunday and hadn’t gotten around to it yet. After I got it apart and cleaned, I reassembled it. As a result, I had some gun oil on my hands. When I racked the slide, my oily hands slipped causing my left index finger to get pinched pretty badly between the slide and the barrel. It hurt.
But you know what hurts worse? Brake cleaner in an open wound.
Also, it bled quite a bit. I needed a band-aid. And the only band-aids I could find in the house were SpongeBob SquarePants band-aids.
With the Republican majority, speaker Jimmy Naifeh (who keeps killing pro-gun bills in Tennessee – see past coverage here) won’t be running the show.
Election time, I usually make beer bets. Until this election, I was 100% on those bets. I’m pretty sure I’m now break even on all my beer bets. However, I owe Sean a bottle of Makers Mark.
The CCW referendum in IL passed in 10 of the 14 counties that had it on their ballot.
Dave Kopel has a look:
The new House of Representatives will have a pro-gun majority on a normal vote. The Pelosi-Hoyer leadership will certainly not be pro-Second Amendment; but that leadership has recognized that its majority is precarious without pro-gun Democrats.
And:
U.S. Senate so far. In Virginia, a +1 as Democrat Mark Warner wins the seat vacated by the retirement of Republican Jim Warner. Elsewhere, -4 from Democratic wins in Colorado (Udall), NC (Hagen), NH (Shaheen), and NM (Udall).
to overturn a state law that discriminates against legal resident aliens who own firearms. Joe has the details.
Personally, I blame the Republicans for their loss. You can’t win by running left. And you can’t win by consistently abandoning every principle that got you elected in the first place, which the Bush administration did for eight years. McCain had to spend his time shoring up a base he should have already had to begin with.
Still, 51% isn’t exactly a blow out. Looks like the Democrats are up to 56 in the senate and the house tally looks to be an increase. From a gunny standpoint, I hope there are enough blue dogs to keep the Obama administration in check. Or we’re fucked and going to court a lot.
I’m guessing about now John McCain realizes that the supposed campaign finance reform law that bears his name is steaming pile of poo.
Tennessee went the opposite direction and now has a Republican majority for the first time since the reconstruction.
The sentiment of blaming George Bush seems common among the blogs today:
Jeff: Congratulations are also due to President George W. Bush for being one of the most incompetent, overspending, uncommunicative, clueless politicians. He has single-handedly reduced the Republican Party to “also ran” status by pissing-off almost everybody.
Sebastian: Thanks George! Let’s be honest about who’s fault it really is we lost this election. The Rove strategy has proven to be a total failure at this point.
Robb: You will not win by moving left. Sorry, the Democrats and progressives have a monopoly on that segment and you’re not going to win them over.
Chris reminds us that this is not a huge victory in terms of numbers.
Tam says we’re all ready to start taxing our way to prosperity in a few months
Xrlq looks on the bright side.
To my conservative/libertarian friends: Chill the fuck out. It’s a bad day for you — and believe me, after 2000, 2002, and 2004, I know exactly how you feel — but the world doesn’t end because of this election. Remember how you told us, upon the expiration of the AWB, that there wouldn’t be blood in the streets because of that? And remember how you were right? Well, I can tell you: You’re going to get to keep your guns. You’re probably not even going to see a renewal of the AWB — you’ve got enough Senators for a filibuster, and you’ve got Feingold. So you’re going to be fine.
Yes, you’re going to get some liberal social policies that you don’t approve of. Them’s the breaks. But I expect more of a return to the “horror” of the Clinton years than anything like the Carter years. And I expect Obama will waste no time moving to the center and disappointing his leftier base on some issues. So even that won’t be as bad as you might think.
Where to go from here? Use this as an opportunity to do what my party, the Democrats, wasted too much time not doing — you could argue from about 1994 to 2005 — cleaning up your own house. Get rid of the dead weight. Your side should be every bit as embarrassed by the Ted Stephenses as mine should be by the Robert Byrds. And while you’re at it, start lobbying the other party on the issues you care about — if guns are your thing (as they are for so many here), then angle for more Feingold Democrats.
And maybe — just maybe — we can actually see about finding some common ground. And maybe I’m a Chinese jet pilot.*
Anyway, it’s not the end of the world, and this too shall pass. You’ll get over it. And if you wait long enough, the Democrats will screw themselves, as parties in power always do, and it will once again be your turn to fuck everything up royally.
Note to Uncle: Thanks to outstanding beer bets, we now officially owe each other a beer. I’ll have to make it a point to get to East Tennessee, so we can each drink two beers, and then keep right on a-drinking. And then, after several beers, in the true spirit of the South, go shootin’! 🙂
Gloat err, Note to Tam: Where’s your Palin now? “See ya at the polls,” indeed! 😉

Looks to be over.
I blame Republicans who abandoned every principle that got them elected in 2000, 2002 and 2004.
Reap, sow, blah blah.
But it’s a historic day. And I can say I was there. Drinking. A lot.
Press calls Michigan and Pennsylvania for Obama. Not good for McCain. Looks like Ohio could be it.
Update: Ohio too. Looks like game over.
I dig it except that hot buttons for links don’t work.
Heh:
In the future, “Hey, I voted for Barack Obama!” will be every white person’s get-out-of-racism-free card.
I sent an email to Patrick at Crimson Trace and told him about the Wolf Ammo issue. I also inquired about getting some of those swabs they send for cleaning. His reply was:
I generally use regular Q-tip-brand Q-tips (some off brands don’t have as much cotton on the end), but it tends to take about 10-20 of them to get an oily lense good and clean, and maybe 7-10 to clean a dirty lens. Just make sure you’re pushing them in there with a little extra force. It would be very hard to damage the diode by jamming a Q-tip in with your hands.
Thought I’d pass it along. Also, he said he’d send me some more of the swabs. Cool. That’s service.
Went to the range this weekend with the Para Gun Blog 45. Earlier, I had bought about five boxes of Wolf 45ACP from CheaperThanDirt because it was, well, cheaper than dirt. Wolf ammo has a reputation for being rather dirty. And it was. After firing a bit without using the Crimson Trace Laser grips, I decided to turn the laser on. The dot was gone and it projected a scattered pattern of light. About a month ago using the Wolf ammo, I had the same issue but dismissed it as I thought it may have gotten dirty just because things get dirty. Seems the ammo produces enough dirt to get inside the hole where the laser is. I swabbed it out and switched to another brand of ammo (Winchester White Box) and had no more issues. Thought I’d pass that along.
Tonight(ish) or tomorrow(ish) will mark the end of the longest campaigns for the presidency in history. The candidates have now been running for president for a record 17 years, 4 months and six days. A couple things to look forward to either tonight(ish) or tomorrow(ish) is that 1) this nightmare will be over and 2) one of those two douchebags running for president will lose.
The dead are already descending on Ohio and Chicago to vote. And voter fraud is reportedly rampant. Heck, Dixville Notch, has 19 registered voters. And 21 voted. Does anyone have faith in the election process anymore? I’m guessing there might be lawyers involved after the election which means it may not end tonight(ish) or tomorrow(ish). And I’m sure if it does end tonight(ish) or tomorrow(ish), the new cycle will start, say, Thursday(ish).
That is unless the lefty promised race and civil wars start up tomorrow.
Been a long 17 years, 4 months and six days.
Anyway, go vote. Unless it’s for Obama. Because ACORN has already voted for you.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
