In NYC, Bloomberg and the council want to be rules forever and have voted to extend term limits. A 14 year-old girl gave him the treatment:
“I may not be able to vote yet but I know for a fact that what you are doing is wrong.” She added, “Quite frankly, Mayor Bloomberg, you are cheating, which does not make a good example for the youth of New York City and the whole world.”

John Sigler looks at gun rights under Obama:
The bait-and-switch gimmick of employing rhetorical tricks to hide very real gun control agendas, and to create a fraudulent history to assure that “your gun record does not define your candidacy” are the central lessons offered in a political/propaganda playbook or script proffered by something called the Third Way.
And:
In this case, Barack Obama’s opponent is the National Rifle Association and the millions of individual citizens we represent.
Indeed, we have defined Obama’s record with a gold-standard analysis of his words and deeds. He has earned his “F” rating, just as he’s earned the endorsement of the Brady Campaign (formerly Handgun Control Inc.) which universally supports registration and licensing as precursors for outright gun bans.
Looks like there’s quite a battle between American Hunters and Shooters Association and some folks over their Wikipedia page. I guess AHSA didn’t like the page pointing out the truth about AHSA being an anti-gun group.
Sebastian in a post entitled About Those Obama Supporting Sportsmen:
I have to conclude it’s just willful ignorance. I understand people not being a single issue voter. There are a lot of gun owners out there who don’t self-identify as such — they vote primarily on other issues.
Actually, I’m going to go ahead and state that there is likely an extraordinarily low number of people who are sportsmen supporting Obama commenting on the issue. In fact, I’d venture a guess that the hate mail Sebastian is receiving is entirely comprised of the Obama truth squad and the number of sportsmen commenting is probably close to zero. I’d lay money on it.
Ray Schoenke of the American Hunters and Shooters Association writes that the big, bad NRA took Cooper down:
Today, on behalf of the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), I condemned the actions by the NRA and its cronies forcing Dan Cooper out.
The gun lobby’s attempt to destroy a good man and small business owner, a loyal member of the gun fraternity, again reveals the desperate Joe McCarthy-like politics of fear that the NRA leadership and others put first. They are trying to scare America’s hunters and shooters into voting against Barack Obama — but we have one thing to say: vote hope and not fear.
Trouble is that it’s a lie to say the NRA had anything to do with it. Cooper’s actions were mentioned on blogs and some internet forums. The NRA never mentioned it. The NRA did, however, link to the USA Today piece after Cooper resigned. But the AHSA can’t believe that there are grassroots activists drawing attention to this stuff. After all, they’ve never had any grassroots of their own. Like other anti-gun groups.
The anti-gunners and the press (but I repeat myself) tried the same sleight of hand during the Zumbo incident.
A guest post from a reader:
Some thoughts Obama’s stand on CCW and why this matters to Virginia…
Parts of western Virginia are, based on the statistics I’ve found, armed camps. In rural western Virginia, the rate of concealed carry permits in the general population runs at about 2.5 percent. Not 2.5 percent of those eligible to carry, but 2.5 percent of every man, woman and child. Unless you’re expecting a lot of infants to be packing heat, that’s a ton of people carrying handguns.
It’s an important part of the culture in those places. Recall that Virginia is to my knowledge the only state in the union where someone with a valid permit can carry legally into the state capitol. (Having done this, I can tell you, it’s an odd experience to run you handgun through the X-ray and have the security guy hand it and your permit back to you with a smile.)
Obama has made no bones about the fact that he’s against concealed carry and would pursue a national ban.
From FactCheck.org, in a piece complaining about an NRA ad:
The NRA’s flier isn’t entirely false. It states Obama’s positions on concealed weapons and on semi-automatic “assault weapons” reasonably accurately.
NRA Claim: “Pass Federal Laws Eliminating Your Right-to-Carry”
True: In 2004, while running for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat he now holds, Obama indeed called for “national legislation” to prevent anyone but law enforcers from carrying concealed firearms. The Chicago Tribune, which queried the candidates on several issues, reported:
Chicago Tribune (Feb. 20 2004): Obama … backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has “malfunctioned” because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions.
“National legislation will prevent other states’ flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents,” Obama said.
More recently, Obama was quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in an article on April 2, 2008, saying “I am not in favor of concealed weapons. … I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.”
So, Obama would like to use Congress to roll back Virginia’s laws on concealed carry. I don’t know about anyone else, but I think that’s kind of important.
Laurel notes the new form 4473s and an ATF re-imagining of the law:
I’d heard that the new Form 4473 now includes a category for “other,” no longer just differentiating between long guns and handguns. “Other” covers receivers and frames, apparently.
What I hadn’t heard until tonight is that the BATFE has also decided that while receivers and frames count as firearms, but are not rifles or shotguns, they are not legal to transfer to persons under 21 – even receivers that can only be made into rifles or shotguns.
Some military families at Fort Campbell recently have received the worst news imaginable, only to find out it was a hoax.
It happened again last week, when two men visited a home on post to inform the family that their deployed soldier had been killed overseas.
In fact, the soldier was fine.

Cooper Firearms, the company, has done everything in their power to remedy this situation, and I’m going to come out and say they ought to be welcomed back into the community.
Exxon-Mobil announced that it had made the greatest profits of any corporation in the history of the world: $14 billion in one quarter. That’s all your money.
Funny thing is, uh, it’s not your money. See, you exchanged your money for goods and services.
Via email, seems Obama’s Truth Squads are being untruthful:
It has come to our (NRA’s) attention that with Halloween upon us, the Barack Obama campaign and its allies are up to dirty political tricks.
NRA members in key presidential battleground states have informed us they have received deliberately misleading phone calls from someone professing to represent the NRA, asking voters to support Barack Obama. This is an absolute and intentional lie.
NRA has long been on record as opposing Barack Obama, as Barack Obama has long been on record as opposing the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
Update: presser here.
With a slender margin separating Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, battalions of lawyers are converging on Florida to handle any disputes at the polls and run to court if necessary.
The TN Democrat Party had to change an ad because it was a lie.
ACK has the correspondence detailing the lie.
This time, from a feminist. That’s adorable. What’s with all these crazy idiots saying that if Obama loses, there’s going to be race wars and civil wars and violence in the streets?
I mentioned my Birthday Loot here. But the other present left was that Politically Incorrect Dog was locked in the house all day. With diarrhea. Been cleaning carpets for two days.
80 pound bulldogs make a lot of poo when they have the trots. I’m guessing the kennel fed him something not on the approved list while we were vacationing. He’s also been very gassy since we’ve been back. And we know all about bulldog farts.
In this post about Bryan Miller stating gun owners have guns to substitute for their erections (particularly tasteless since it was in reference to the tragic death of a child), I asked: What about my wife’s gun?
To which phlegmfatale replied:
I dunno about your wife, but I totally get girl-wood.
Heh.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
