The Trumpening

I listened to his inaugural address. He focused on things he said in the campaign, which I expected. May as well continue what works for you. He did spend a lot more time speaking about God and displaying religious beliefs than I expected of him.

And I rather enjoyed him calling out the establishment who benefits while others do not. Right there in front of the establishment.

Not so sure

I dunno. I would say that qualifies as “high capacity”. The press usually uses that term for regular capacity magazines.

HK SP5K. Totally impractical but I kind of want one. Rather like the Mossberg Shockwave. Totally impractical and probably unpleasant to shoot. But I want one.

New Army Gun

The Army Times says that the US Army’s new handgun will be a Sig:

Half a decade into its search for a new handgun, the Army has chosen Sig Sauer’s version of the Modular Handgun System, according to a Thursday announcement from the Army.

No specifics on the caliber or which particular model. My guess is the P320 in 9mm.

Here’s the announcement from Defense.gov.

Jerry Miculek breaks a world record

10 shots, 3 Targets, 1.59 Seconds:

So, what caliber for gator?

A gator jumped on to some tourist’s boat. Gets stuck.

Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick. That is a huge gator. Or a small dinosaur.

A civil rights victory

Ezell went for the good guys in Chicago. At issue was the city’s attempt to, effectively, ban shooting ranges within the city. And restricting use of ranges to those over the age of eighteen. Sebastian picked up on something I think is important:

What really pleases me is that the judges took note that the zoning rules allowed law enforcement ranges on any commercial property, and the city notes those ranges operated safely. They looked at that and balked at how that argument wouldnt apply somehow to civilian shooting ranges. In a small way, they looked at police exemptions and called bullshit on it. This is what I think courts should do. If they are exempting the cops, something is fishy.

Indeed. I’ve never understood what sort of professional training the police in Tennessee get to exempt them from the texting and driving laws.

The judge who issued the decision is on Trump’s short list for The Supreme Court. Good.

So, that happened

Obama commuted the sentence of Bradley Manning. But not Edward Snowden. Both basically did the same thing. But one embarrassed a republican while the other embarrassed a democrat.

It’s like a whole other country

Journalists to spend 100 days in Appalachia. Oh, those poor journos, going to live with the savages in Crackerland.

Have you tried minding your own business instead?

In one of the dumbest things I’ve seen in a while, a senator wants to keep people who make dairy alternatives from using the words associated with dairy, like milk, yogurt, etc.

The party of smaller government

Governor Haslam wants to raise gas taxes. How about no?

NSSF teams up with suicide prevention group

This is a good move.

When only one side is ever civil.

And the other pro-gun bill

National reciprocity and the constitutional case for it. Sebastian takes a look at three strong arguments for it. The current system, however, doesn’t really require anything to be constitutional. Using it to our advantage as our opponents certainly would has a certain amount of appeal.

SIG Sauer P320 X-Five Pistol

This has my interest:

It’s a decent looking gun. Tam’s work with them has interested me in finding one to play around with. I’m leery of getting to involved with one since switching carry guns is time-consuming and expensive.

What caliber for drone?

The Navy is developing smart mini missiles to take out drones.

The most busted name in news

Fake news: CNN reports that suppressors require paying a $200,000 tax.

Cool bits from SHOT

It was predicted it would be the year of the pistol caliber carbine. But it looks like the Year of the Suppressor. So, let’s hope the hearing protection act passes.

A look at the latest version of the Maxim 9 from SilencerCo. If the hearing protection act passes, I see no reason not to buy one of these.

OMG REPRESENTATIVES CARRY GUNS

And some times, they’re careless:

Gun-friendly New Hampshire is back in the spotlight after a lawmaker dropped a loaded firearm this week in a House hearing on a kindergarten bill.

But lawmakers packing guns on statehouse grounds and occasionally handling them recklessly isnt unique to the Live Free or Die state. At least 19 states, from Kansas to Texas to Idaho, allow legislators to carry guns in parts of or the entire capitol. In a handful of others that prohibit it, such as Oklahoma, lawmakers sometimes bypass security measures in order to carry concealed firearms.

Ive testified in a number of states where Ive had legislators show me they were carrying even though they werent allowed to do so, said John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Resource Center, which has gathered info on guns in statehouses.

No violent incidents of lawmakers carrying guns at statehouses have been recorded in recent memory. Carelessness is another matter.

One thing about this election is the Republicans are introducing pro gun bills

Odds of passing are slim but there is a bill to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The agency has had its share of scandal and incompetence. And they fail ridiculously at one of their jobs which is to run your name through the NICS and process your $200 tax for NFA items.

Wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see them go.

The AR Podium

From Fab Defense. Interesting design but could be a solution in search of a problem. I’m betting changing mags will take some practice:

Another AR caliber

The 22 Nosler:

Nosler Inc. announced the release of the 22 Nosler, a new cartridge designed to transform any standard AR-15 into the fastest, most powerful .22 caliber available for the platform, with the least amount of modification. The new addition to Noslers cartridge family delivers 30 percent more energy and is nearly 300 fps faster than a 223 Remington/5.56 NATO round.

People keep trying out new calibers and people still buy a lot of 5.56.

Life in the future

People identify as half human and half fish.

NBA will consider shortening games due to millennial attention spans. In their defense, the last 15 seconds of a basketball game usually takes ten minutes.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
