on stopping power

A man and woman have a suicide pact over financial difficulties. The man shoots his wife in the back of the head. Then shoots himself. He then drives them both three miles to the police station where the police note:

“At first, when they said they wanted to report that they’d attempted suicide, we thought they had used sleeping pills or something along those lines,” Phillips said. “They were walking and talking, and they were in distress but not overly in distress.”

Wounds were not life-threatening.

I have to wonder what the weapon was in this case.

An odd tale

Jury find doctor not guilty for cutting off man’s penis without permission. That’s probably about the only way I’d have cancer removed. I doubt I could give permission to do that. I’m rather fond of it.

Product Review

Shooting Illustrated reviews the Versa Carry. It’s a clever design. I have one that I’ve been carrying on and off for a bit. It’s very lightweight and, honestly, is probably the concealed holster I’ve had.

The two cons of it are that, one, the trigger is not covered. This works for a long, heavy trigger pull like a P3AT. But I wouldn’t carry a Glock like this. Second con is that once you draw the gun, you have to remove the Versa Carry to reholster.

But for deep concealment, it’s one of the best ways to conceal barring pocket carry.

The lefties address gun issues

The Brady Campaign lies. Gets called on it. Media Matters says Oh yeah! And repeats the lie. They’re upset that you can buy a gun if you break the law. Kind of like how you can speed if you break the law. Shocking.

No blood in the trails?

When national parks started following state law regarding carrying of weapons, there were cries from editorial boards and anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) of increased violence. But, like guns in bars, nothing happened.

NRA, gun manufacturers and the Gun Control Act

Discussion on involvement here, here and here.

The way I’ve generally heard it spun is that you should have seen the law that would have passed if NRA hadn’t been involved. For instance, DC’s gun laws were (loosely) based on the original National Firearms Act. So, that’s how bad it could have been. I guess.
