It’s getting deep: Legislators from all of Mexico’s three major parties in congress are calling for a joint U.S.-Mexico working group to examine accusations that U.S. federal agents allowed hundreds of guns to flow into Mexico.

Been going on since 2008, which, IIRC, is about the time press started parroting the Mexican gun canard. Checking archives, looks like the canard started in October 2007. Senator Grassley calls for independent investigation of ATF.

A look at why. I tend to think it’s the empire building. Create a problem, be the solution, and get funding. My bigger worry is that ATF, in their pursuit of good PR, will do something stupid and dangerous.

Finally watched the CBS video. It really makes ATF look bad. Allowing 2,500 guns to go across the border is inexcusable.

The NSSF: In 2008 alone Mexico received some $204 million in U.S. military arms shipments approved for export. So just how are these weapons finding their way into the hands of the drug cartels? Defectors work for the drug cartels. But remember, it’s those Arizona gun shows that are the problem.

Zing: Either way, the BATFE’s desire to mandate reporting of multiple long gun sales by border area firearms dealers is questionable since BATFE seems incapable of managing the criminal leads it already has and unwilling to submit to constitutionally mandated Congressional oversight.
