You go, little dude
And he doesn’t have significant political pull: Army officer dealing with terror threats denied concealed carry permit in N.J.
More guns, less crime: Crime around the NRA convention.
And the NRA convention had a $53M impact on the economy. The anti-gun conventions impact how?
So, I saw this interesting looking gizmo at the NRA AM:
It’s the Leupold D-EVO. Here’s another angle that may make what it accomplishes more clear:
Basically, the spot you look into is offset from the glass. And you mount your red dot or holographic sight in front of it. So, you can either look through the D-EVO and have a magnified 6x scope on your rifle. Then, without flipping switches, moving your head, or tilting your gun, you have access to red dot sight. Merely by moving your eyeball. Hard to explain but here’s a video of it in action:
Seen on the floor of the NRA show, it grabbed my attention because it looks like Robocop’s gun. The SilencerCo Maxim 9:
It will be an integrally suppressed 9mm handgun. And it will take Glock magazines. The concept is interesting. Here’s a pic I snapped of a diagram of the internal baffles:
It was heavy and the grip was very thick. The guy working the booth told me they’ve already gotten the weight down and thinned the grip. It has a couple of bolts on the front so that you can remove the baffles for cleaning. They anticipate it to ship by the end of the year, with a retail at about the $1,500 mark. Even if this thing winds up being vaporware, they’ll make a mint selling it as a movie prop. Speaking of, at the show, they had the Maxim 9 photoshopped into a bunch of classic movie scenes for t-shirts (Pulp Fiction, Dirty Harry and others). I decided to snag the Deadpool shirt before they got a cease and desist.
Our state news is all abuzz about maybe, possibly our senator Bob Corker could be the Trump VP pick. Even though there is no evidence whatsoever that is the case. Even Bob Corker has dismissed these claims. It doesn’t make sense. Why would Trump pick a rather unremarkable senator from a state that will likely go 18 to 20% for Trump anyway?
From John Richardson. The fact is the NRA made a very practical endorsement. Hillary is absolutely not on the side of the righteous on this issue. She’d be a disaster in court appointments alone, much less any executive powers. I can’t fault them.
But I can fault a system that yields a choice between two shitty candidates.
Hawaii may be the first state to put gun owners in a federal database:
Hawaii could become the first state in the United States to enter gun owners into an FBI database that will automatically notify police if an island resident is arrested anywhere else in the country.
Most people entered in the “Rap Back” database elsewhere in the U.S. are those in “positions of trust,” such as school teachers and bus drivers, said Stephen Fischer of the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division. Hawaii could be the first state to add gun owners.
This would seem ripe for a lawsuit.
Lots of NRA pics coming. But, I’ve gotta catch up with the real world first.
I wear their jackets regularly. In NY, NYPD fired 9 rounds at some nutjob. Four rounds didn’t penetrate his Carhartt jacket. And it gets kind of amusing:
The bullets we have may be defective and thats very disturbing, one source said. When we fire our weapons, we want to make damn sure that our bullets hit our target neutralizing our target.
Emphasis added for the following bit:
Four of the bullets got lodged in Conrads Carhartt jacket, sources said, adding that he was not wearing a bulletproof vest.
Another shot grazed the wrist of bystander Lauran Code, a 46-year-old lingerie designer from California.
Ok, then.
Someone asked me why the Moms Demand crowd won’t announce their protest. And I said it was because they knew we’d show up to heckle them. And the insignificant number of people that showed would be photographed by us so they couldn’t use photographic tricks to make the crowd seem large. Well, that happened.
Meanwhile, the NRA had a draw of 80,452. Within 6K of their record.
Grassroots v. astroturf.
Kind of a fundamental thing for me, willing to bet on stuff. Annie Duke and life lessons from poker. Would you bet on your belief?
Some journalist I’ve never heard of decided to accuse the NRA of editing a video to show Hillary barking like a dog. Except that Hillary did bark like a dog. She, using all of her journalistic integrity, just deleted the tweet.
The scandal in Washington no one is talking about. Yeah, blogs have been talking about it for years.
Or I feel bad for actually wanting a $4,800 wheelgun
Nighthawk has teamed up with Korth to make some really slick custom revolvers. I handled them at their booth at the NRA Annual Meeting. The lower end of the spectrum is the Sky Hawk, a 9mm revolver:
And here’s the Mongoose, in 357:
And here’s the sexy looking Supersport, also in 357:
Given that I shoot almost exclusively plastic handguns, I’m amazed at how a lot of these metal triggers feel. The Korths definitely had a some of the slickest triggers I’ve ever dry fired. These are very expensive handguns, for what they are. But they are nice. I also snagged a video of the Sky Hawk’s internals in operation. I’ve understood, basically, how revolvers work for a while. But to see it in action made it clear:
AR furniture that is. Saw these wooden furniture sets for ARs from WoodForAR.com:
I kind of want to do a 20 inch barreled, longish range AR in that.
“We’re gonna get rid them”
While standing in a gun free zone.
Donald Trump on the NRA convention: There are so many rifles. So many guns. Even I get a little concerned.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
