What is more dangerous to the human race than Global Warming?

The Government of course.

Atlanta has only 81 days of water left. If you were to say they had it coming for their suburban sprawl from Hell, you would be overlooking another reason, the Government of course.

The water supply for Atlanta is Lake Lanier. Every single day millions of gallons of Georgia water are pumped to Florida to keep water brackish for oysters and shrimp.

Whose bright idea was this? The Government of course.

Now people in Florida are telling people in Georgia they can’t build so many homes because of the water shortage. Guess where the people of Georgia plan to get some water from? Just guess. The friendly people of Tennessee of course. We have a nice big river and they want us to share. Even the Government is thinking what a swell idea this is.

Can the Government do anything else to screw up your life? Of course. You see we have this Global Warming crisis and if we don’t do something about it the Earth will be destroyed. So what is the Governments bright idea. Ethanol. Grow corn and make ethanol to cut down on foreign oil. More jobs, better national security, and were saving the Planet people. Could it get any better?

Actually, this is the single most stupid idea from the Government yet. Even dumber than changing the date for Daylights saving time.

One gallon of ethanol requires 1,700 gallons of water according to Cornell ecology professor David Pimentel. Do you think the Government should have thought of that?

In Mexico there are food riots because of corn shortages. Corn is a basic food staple in Mexico. Food prices worldwide are rising because of a shortage of corn for food. Remember the good old days when we just ate corn, instead of putting it in our gas tank?

Are we seeing the “law of unintended consequences” yet?

Want to do something to help? Boycott ethanol. You be saving the Planet. And a whole lot of water. And that’s a good thing.

So, I have been remiss in mentioning that Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for, err, I don’t know why. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the Supreme Court gives it to Bush.

HK Uppers For Civilian Sale

We hate you a bit less but you still suck:

As of now, and as has been rumored for several weeks on the Internet, HKPRO.COM can report with accuracy that HK has indeed reversed that decision, and has decided to introduce to the market, a civilian legal version of the HK416 and HK417!

Update: Translation: Hey, a drop off in military sales?

Blame game

I like reading Aunt B. I wrote about why I do, even though we’re political opposites. But I take issue with this:

Who Does Kay Brooks Hate More–Men or Women?

Kay wrote a post about a rape that occurred and said that maybe the woman shouldn’t have been out walking late alone. Kay was very explicit to note that she was not saying she deserved it. And I don’t think from reading Kay that she was stating the woman was responsible either (though she did say she was not without some responsibility) . Now, here’s where I part ways with the, err, feminist persuasion. Kay essentially notes that maybe if this young lady had done something differently, this may not have happened. Aunt B. seems to think that would constitute blaming the victim. I don’t think that is the case.

More importantly, stating that Kay hates men or women is a bit of the feminist over the top rhetoric that turns me off.

Let’s change the situation and say I decided to drive my McLaren to a bad part of town. And somebody carjacks me. Now, did I deserve it? No. Am I responsible for what happened? No. Did I maybe have a bit of a lapse in judgment by going there? Could be. Should I have expected people not to take it? Well, sure. But that’s not the best expectation to have of other people. Because some other people are pieces of shit. Not everyone is. Certainly not all men. Nor all women. But some people are.

But when it’s rape, the aforementioned analysis becomes taboo to suggest and outright not politically correct to discuss. And that’s a shame, if not outright dangerous.

As Nomen said over there: blaming victims for being victimized is wrong, pretty much always; blaming women for being raped is wrong, always. but pointing out that the unfortunate, sympathy-worthy victim may have committed a tactical error does not equate to blaming her, no matter how monotonously the correct-tactics drum may be beaten in society at large.

Update: In comments, Brittney informs me I can’t read:

No, that doesn’t mean she deserves what happened but she is not without responsibility in this.

Ok, that’s pretty bad.

Empty Holster

Seems some college students are protesting limits on concealed carry at their schools by wearing empty holsters. Rustmeister talks about it here and here. Meanwhile, Kelly has her doubts about campus carry.

Biggest issue in gun rights?

Sebastian asks and answers. I tend to concur that getting more people involved in shooting is key. He also notes a general apathy among gun owners. Conversely, there are those who go to the other extreme and are, shall we say, too concerned. Such as the conversation we’re having with the GOA sorts here.

No compromise is nice way of saying no results.

What media bias against guns?

Kevin gets a response:

I’m quoted, more or less accurately but in no sensible context, in the Observer article by Paul Harris. He and I talked on the phone for 30 minutes or so, and as is usual with elite media reporters, he did not let the facts get in the way of his story.

There are details of the piece there.

They don’t need emergencies if they do it now

Seems in Cali, they passed the Emergency Powers Act and The Governator signed it. The bill prevents confiscation of arms during emergencies, like say a riot. I think Sebastian nailed it: Well, it would seem Arnold at least has the courtesy of giving us the reach around.

At GBR, I mentioned Fried Coke. No one believed me. Well, looky from Yahoo’s main page.

Chicks and guns – bleg

I was talking off line with Nashville’s Bad Bad Ivy (known to most of you by her cleavage) about guns. Seems she’s interested in pursuing purchasing a gun. There’s also another Nashville Gal who has asked me the same question a long time ago but, to my knowledge, hasn’t made a decision yet and asked to be kept quiet. Long and short, she’s looking for a handgun which she may or may not get a carry permit for. And she wants advice. I have my standard advice to the new shooter: A Glock in any .4X caliber. My reasoning is that Glocks are simple to operate and .4X has adequate stopping power. Others will recommend revolvers. I then told her I could pose the question to you guys and she’d get multitudes of different answers. And, since education and exposure are important, I’m asking you to hit her with both barrels. Also, recommend any resources to her you may have come across.

Prior to that, I recommend she head to the range with someone knowledgeable enough to teach her the basics of firearms safety and shooting.

Also, any of you Nashvillians who wish to volunteer to head to the range, let me know.

Feel free to leave comments here or over at Ivy’s somewhere here..

Late Entry

About six months ago, I asked:

Due to some bizarre set of circumstances, congress decides that all federal gun laws need to be re-written and revised. You are elected/selected/appointed as the negotiator for pro-gun folks. And there will be one negotiator for the anti-gun folks. All federal laws will be wiped clean and you two will negotiate what the new gun laws will be. There will have to be compromise on both sides. So, what will you concede? And what is nonnegotiable?

Armed Canadian has responded. He apparently found the draft he was working on.

Quote of the day

Via the gun shots, comes this:

You can’t carry a cop, or your spouse, or a strong friend in your pocket all the time. You have to depend on yourself and know how to defend yourself because you might find yourself alone and up against a bad situation.

More on Abrams

Bitter has a lot more on Sandy Abrams. This time, it’s factual stuff and not Brady Bunch bleating. Turns out, even the machine gun charge is a technical violation as the paperwork for it was in process.

What media bias against guns?

Are you a trigger happy kind of person? Is that what you wanted to do, shoot to kill?
