Iowa Predictions

For the Republicans:

1) Thompson (ok, not so much a prediction as a hope)
2) McCain
3) /20~ p@\/1 (oh crap, I almost spelled it out)
4) Huckabee
5) Some big government liberal, there’s so many (again, not so much a prediction as a hope)

For Democrats:

1) Hillary Clinton
2) that black guy
3) There’s more?
4) Yes, that guy with the pretty hair
5) No shit?

Update: Heh, in comments Jon says my #3 Democrat should be Giuliani. That’s funny.

Recapping the summary

Robb has a nice little recap of our sockpuppet that I mentioned yesterday. Says Robb:

Both Alex and NRAFOUREVER posted from Lewisberg, PA. At one point, two comments left by both Alex and NRAFOUREVER indicated the same IP address. From his comments, Alex was not beneath ad hominem attacks and due to his complete inability to actually argue a point, I firmly believe that Alex & NRAFOUREVER were either the same person or at least in collusion. This is not 100% proof. It is only what I think is likely.

Ayup. Occam’s razor.

Cheatham County NFA Update

Recall that the sheriff didn’t know the law and did not sign approval for NFA weapons, despite being required by state law to do so. There’s been a bit of an update. Seems a guy submitted paperwork a bit back and was approved with no problem. The guy then did it again and was denied.

Katrina Lawsuit Postponed

The AP:

A federal judge has agreed to postpone a trial for a lawsuit that the National Rifle Association filed against city officials for seizing hundreds of guns in Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath.

Last week, NRA attorneys said the lobbying group needs more time to search for hundreds of gun owners whose firearms were confiscated by New Orleans police following the Aug. 29, 2005, hurricane.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier agreed Friday to reschedule a Feb. 19 trial for the case. A new trial date is expected to be picked during a telephone conference with the judge later this month.

Like you and me, only better

Bill lets judges carry weapons in gun-free zones.

True

Yee-Haw! My Vote Cancels Out Y’all’s!

Groups

Yuri has set up a gun blogger group on Google. See here.

GBR 3 and More

Mr. Completely says plans for Gun Blogger Rendezvous 3 are underway. And don’t forget that in May, gun bloggers are getting together at the NRA convention. I hope to be at both this year and may even be (gasp!) giving a presentation at the latter, which sucks because I am 1) horrible at public speaking and 2) hate it.

ATF Ignores Recommendations

Seems congress has wagged their finger at the ATF a couple of times for going after dealers who commit technical errors (i.e., writing a Y instead of spelling out Yes) a couple of times. But ATF continues to disregard those reprimands.

Back in the saddle

Roger Abramson returns to blogging. ‘Bout time. He wrote at so many places, I stopped to trying to keep up.

Fired

Looks like DC’s lawyer in Heller has been canned.

Speaking of Ceasefire PA

Sebastian has the skinny on another of their board members. She believes in crop circles, ESP, gun control and other mythology.

Update: A Truther Too? Which I’d find odd since truthers are usually pro-gun.

Taxing

Via AC comes this bit from The Nashville City Paper:

Charging hundreds of dollars to a Tennessean’s right to carry a firearm is simply wrong on its face. Based on the spirit of laws already on the books, state lawmakers past and present appear to agree this a right Tennesseans have, not a privilege awarded to them by the government.

Furthermore, these charges create an economic barrier that may force law-abiding residents of our state on the lower socio-economic end of the food chain to either carry illegally or not at all. Why should single parents, young people and the working poor be at a disadvantage financially when it comes to a right others with more means enjoy freely? They should not.

True. I think the get a new permit costs $115 (it did when I got mine) and renewal is $50. Plus, you have to shell out about $100 on the training course. And ammo, background checks, and firearms are taxed highly in the state.

More anti-gun sockpuppetry

You’ll recall our old pal NRAFOUREVER. He wrote some pretty vile, disgusting racist stuff while parodying being pro-gun. Some examples:

Yea, thats rite, but I think you got the stastic rong. I heard Wayyne LaPeare say it was 2 1/2 milloin! THat’s a LOT more than you said hear! So I aggree, but lets get our numbers right to show that wer’e smarter than the gun GRABERS LIBS! GO NRA GO! If any of you getto nigers come to steal m y truck, I will PWN you with my rifel!

HA HA LOL LOL YOUR RITE, the libs are STUPIDE! NOT like us, we have smarte names like NRA FOUREVER and WHITECRACKER to show what we think clear and clean! Plus, we barricaede ourself in our house with guns b/c of our fear of the world! Esp. the nigers! Its not b/c were inseckure, its b/c its our RITEs gave by JESIS! Plus we love being intimete with our guns! GO NRA GO!

Then you may recall our old pal Alex Tristan Riley, whose blog mysteriously vanished after he became a Board Member of Ceasefire PA, an anti-gun group affiliated with Bryan Miller’s Ceasefire NJ. The reason was probably because he was bigoted against gays, Catholics and Muslims. That he advocated violence against people on sex offender registries. And that he is generally a disgusting human being. Well, I’m sure Ceasefire PA did not want to be associated with the likes of that and that is likely why Alex Tristan Riley’s various blogs have disappeared. Riley even went to the trouble of having them removed from the Wayback Machine and Google Cache. Some fine examples of Riley’s wisdom can be seen here.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to learn that a preponderance of evidence indicates that either NRAFOUREVER and Alex Tristan Riley are the same person. Or, I suppose it’s possible, there are just two bigoted lunatics sharing an IP address. Thirdpower shows some of the evidence. And Robb Allen has a lot more.

Armed and Safe has some more evidence and even more witty prose from our pal. Yuri has a summary. Sebastian has some screencaps of NRAFOUREVER’s work. Here’s a yahoo cache of NRAFOUREVER’s page (heh, he forgot one cache site). And NRAFOUREVER was pretty active on YouTube. He closed his account but you can still see his vile comments at other videos.

Turns out, Riley’s students aren’t fans either. Of course, given his nature as a sockpuppet, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he posts there too. And now, some other poster, is threatening a libel suit. Well, truth is a defense.

Kurt wrote a letter to Ceasfire PA.

David has instituted the CeasfirePA Watch.

I have to admit, I am disappointed that what I thought was a new troll just turned out to be one of our old trolls. Anyway, the telling thing about NRAFOUREVER is that he had to create what was the stereotypical gun owner in his mind and act on it on the internet.

This is not the first time there was strong evidence that an anti-gun board member was engaged in sockpuppetery.

Update: Note to instapundit readers: I’m not the one who found this stuff but the other bloggers linked in the post did.

Props, when due

Speaking of Joe, he notes that an ATF agent gets it right. Good. Though I find it odd since they have a history of feeding the PSH.

Hypocrisy

On Don Perata from Wikipedia:

Perata is a staunch advocate of gun control. In 1999, Perata successfully drove legislation that updated the California “assault weapons ban” by adding a ban of generically-described semi-automatic firearms.

That’s a bit ironic since:

Perata said today that he no longer carries a concealed-weapons permit and there was no gun in his state car.

Perata said he never had the permit renewed when it expired two years ago because he “just never had the opportunity to re-qualify” at a gun range. Perata obtained the permit out of security concerns stemming from his work regulating firearms.

Deal or no deal?

Ouch

Why firearms training is important.

Nice shirt too.

Shooty meet up – more stuff

The shoot was held at Coal Creek Armory (gratuitous plug due to their holding a time slot for us – so, go buy something)

One of the highlights of the range time was shooting Tam’s 44. Cool little revolver. Even if you miss the target, the fireball from it will set the target on fire.

Everyone likes the 9mm AR-15.

Tam has a write up here. And I’d like to thank Tam for pointing out that my pending procedure can be referred to as installing a blank-firing adapter.

Glenn Reynolds is a fine shot.

I tried to teach Dr. Helen not to flinch by using the old no round in the camber see what happened trick. I find this method effective because it shows the shooter at exactly what point they flinch and they tend to compensate for that. It seemed to work for the next couple of magazines but we soon had to leave the range so the handgun carry class people could qualify.

Speaking of, the handgun carry class was packed. And there were a lot of women in the class.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
