Agreed

I’m with Phelps, women just carry too much shit. Not counting clothing, on my person as we speak are the following:

Wallet
Keys
Watch
Wedding Band
Kel-Tec in holster
Extra mag for Kel-Tec
Phone (which has mp3 player, camera, GPS, and games!)
Knife

That’s it. You can drop me off almost anywhere in the country with those items and I’ll likely be fine. With the contents of my truck, it goes from almost anywhere to seriously anywhere.

What else do I need?

The Mrs. carries a monstrous purse. And she can never find her phone.

Rule #2

Violation.

Advice that can get you killed

Seen at the pipsqueak’s:

One of the scenarios was, “How do you react to an intruder in your home?”

Here were the answers, paraphrased:

a) Hide in a closet and wait for them to leave.

b) Stay where you are and speak loudly as though to a male companion.

c) Bark like a dog and hope it scares them away.

Guess what the correct anwer (sic) was, according to this game?

Unpossible Round Up

In Tennessee, they locked down Middle Tennessee State University due to A suspicious, early-morning email message to police at Middle Tennessee State University stated that the sender overheard that someone was going to bring a gun to campus and “do something to the teacher in PH,” which may allude to Peck Hall on the Murfreesboro campus. That cannot happen because MTSU is a gun-free zone.

All kinds of handgun crime in Chicago, which is odd because handguns are banned there.

Meanwhile, hundreds rally for gun control after student killed in Chicago. I supposed they could ban handguns again? I don’t recall the Sun-Times even running a blurb when thousands showed up at a pro-gun rally.

In Baltimore, a seven year-old takes a gun go school, which is odd since Baltimore has all that gun control. Seven year-old claims he found it.

Update: Wow. Just wow. That’s unnecessary since California gets the Brady Camp’s bestest gun control rating.

Well, if they lie so easily

I seem to have lost my dog and pony, have you seen them?

Yahoo! headline: Congress demands oil companies justify record profits

Hmm, I would justify them by saying I’m not a commie and, to my knowledge, they are the only people who think profits are bad.

Continuing: Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., noting the hearing was being held on April Fool’s Day, said, “The biggest joke of all is being played on American families by Big Oil.” The national average cost of gasoline was hitting a record $3.29 cents a gallon.

No, the biggest jokes here are that congress is having a hearing that chastises successful industry and that congress thinks it can even come close to fixing the problem.

Update: Kinda related: I bought a gallon of milk today.

Eating our own

This weekend, I was out driving around and I decided to stop by Gunny’s Indoor Shooting Range. It’s not open yet but there was plenty of activity with them finishing the place up and stuff. They gave me a tour of the facility and their range. They’ll have (IIRC) eight pistol lanes and four lanes rated for rifles up to 30-06. And they explained to me how the fancy ventilation system works. Seems breathing lead is bad for you and they have put in all kinds of filters and stuff for that. They told me the total cost of just the range was about half a million. Also, if you join now before they open, you get a membership at $80 off the regular price. Membership includes range time, one handgun carry permit class, and your first firearm purchase at cost. They were all super nice, friendly, and helpful. I mean, the guy stopped what he was doing and gave me a tour and I just walked in from the street.

But this ain’t a post about that. It’s a post about this: A man who I assume was The Gunny was talking to another guy, who we will refer to as SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED happened to stop by that day to and got a tour. I’m not sure how the conversation got to that point but I heard The Gunny say something like Well, you can’t really carry a loaded weapon through the store to the range. The Gunny explained that that was a condition of his insurance policy. Well, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED got all SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED on The Gunny saying he thought it was ridiculous and he’d never be back and he would never patronize the store. Would you rather the guy not open up his shop? I’m pretty certain the rules for insurance are probably consistent at various ranges.

So, hats off to assholes like SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED for getting all GOA on a shop-owner over something he can’t control. Thank you for making this guy’s life hard. And thank you for ruining what was probably an otherwise fulfilling afternoon for the guy. I mean, it’s not like you can’t take your frustration out on the insurance folks be sending them a letter. It’s much better to attack a guy who happens to be on the same side of the gun issue as you. I mean, that makes sense, making life hard on people with like interests. I mean, Hell, if a gun range has rules about gun handling, it’s like the gun controllers have won!

Asshat.

Speaking of loopholes

This weekend I used the gun show loophole to buy a weapon. As is always the case, this purchase did not involve a loophole because there isn’t one. But this case was different in that it also did not involve a gun show. See, I bought a Lee Enfield rifle from Les Jones. You see, when one private party lawfully sells a firearm to another private party (as happened here), that is the supposed loophole they are referring to.

In other news, 303 British is spendy. I happened to stop at Dick’s Sporting Goods for something and decided I’d check to see if they had any. They did. Remington brand 303 British was 22.69 for 20 (about $1.13/round).

I’d post pics but Les already has.

Suppressor Prosecutions

Seems people who want unlawful hearing protection are bigger criminals than 2nd degree murderers:

Basically, the conclusion is that most silencer prosecutions are for simple possession; when charges involve possession in connection with crime, it’s usually a drug offense. Prosecutions for use in a violent offense are almost zero.

If possessed while committing a crime, sentencing is thirty years? Seems a bit much. Suppressors are quite popular these days. If they weren’t such a pain in the ass to buy, I’d have gotten one already.

Manufacturing Loophole

Rolling your own guns.

Interesting

USA Today:

Facing tighter budgets, law enforcement agencies across the country are increasingly turning to civilians to respond to some calls that sworn officers and deputies are usually responsible for.

That means people calling 911 to report a traffic accident, a burglarized home or a stolen car may be greeted by a civilian in a polo shirt instead of a gun-toting officer.

Seems they’re not actually, as David put it, calling out the militia but rather are hiring unarmed people to do some work. I had a few friends that did similar type of stuff back in the 1990s.

Unpossible

In handgun-free Chicago, 7 dead and 14 wounded.

In handgun-free (unless you’re rich and famous) New York: A stray bullet fired by a mourner killed a mother of three as she walked by a memorial for a popular local rapper in New York.

Reader Tim asks, re: the sign below, the following:

Would anyone take a position that the language of this firearm prohibition sign is substantially similar to that language specified by TCA 39-17-1359(a)? I would say it is NOT substantially similar and as such a person with a handgun carry permit could legally carry in this park. The following is the applicable TN Code:

39-17-1359. Prohibition at certain meetings — Posting notice. (a) An individual, corporation, business entity or local, state or federal government entity or agent thereof is authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person otherwise authorized by §§ 39-17-1351 — 39-17-1360, at meetings conducted by, or on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of the individual, corporation, business entity or government entity. Notice of the prohibition shall be posted. Posted notices shall be displayed in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the building, portion of the building or buildings where weapon possession is prohibited. If the possession of weapons is also prohibited on the premises of the property as well as within the confines of a building located on the property, the notice shall be posted at all entrances to the premises that are primarily used by persons entering the property. The notice shall be in English but a notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. In addition to the sign, notice may also include the international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle. The sign shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, premises or property and shall contain language substantially similar to the following:

PURSUANT TO § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS ON THIS PROPERTY, OR WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500).
