And now it’s time for everyone’s favorite game show: Pin the convenient political ideology on the nutbag

Bombs went off in Boston during the marathon. Thoughts go out to the people of Boston on this horrible day.

I heard this on the news on the way home and thought to myself that people were toiling away at blaming some political group. Didn’t take long.

Remember during Sandy Hook how the press got substantially every thing wrong except that there was a shooting and where it was? Pretty much going to find that out in this case too, when the dust clears. For news, it’s better to be first than correct.

Don’t jump to conclusions.

We’ll learn soon enough, they’re still trying to make up their mind if the bomber had an assault rifle or a ticket to Teheran in his pocket.

  2. Phelps Says:

Reports are the suspect is a Saudi national.

Am I the only one that saw he orange fireball and thought “tannerite”?

  3. HL Says:

If it is an islamic terrorist, you have to wonder if we will start seeing more attacks here in the homeland since we aren’t fighting them “over there” to the extent we were under W.

    Prayers for the victims.

  4. TigerStripe Says:

Last report I saw said the report that there is a suspect in custody is incorrect. TS

  5. NotClauswitz Says:

Former Govt. nutbag Cynthia McKinney thinks it’s the Cops!

    Jumping to conclusions.

    Pattern recognition.

    Whatever.

  7. Crotalus Says:

It was them damn gun owners! Them’s the ones who planted them bom…
    Wait a minute…

  8. adam Says:

    Ironic hypocrisy.

    Bombs go off:
Senseless tragedy! Blame the nut bags!

    Active shooter:
Failure of the system. Blame the guns!

  9. wizardpc Says:

Trust me, adam: they’ll blame guns for this, too

Wow, sure hope nothing like this ever happens in the United States.

I made the [severe] mistake of commiserating with NYC when That Thing went down. I have resolved in future to (1)reserve judgement, and (2)react exactly as if this had occurred in, say, Belfast or Sarajevo. My lock-step is permanently out of sync.

  11. wastme Says:

I think we need a national conversation about what other rights the government can take away because bombs are bad.

  12. Geodkyt Says:

I will go out on a limb that I do not believe it was likely an _official_ AQ operation — they have better bomb guys than that.

That does NOT, however, rule out an AQ-inspired (but not AQ-affiliated) attack by an amateur, especially a domestic.

I’d say wholly domestic political nutjob is a far less likely probability, given the target.

But, Hell — there are international runners, too. For all we know it was an inept government assassination by the government of Central Goatscrew targeting a reform activist. (Not that I think that possibility is at all even a reasonable minority probability. Just making an example.)

Right now, all we know is two devices went off, others were recovered unfired.

  13. Patrick Says:

Anybody else look and listen to those explosions and think gun powder?

  14. Mu Says:

Latest speculation is that the bombs were made from reloading powder “freely available on the internet” – too bad it’s too late to go hoarding that.

  15. Bryan S. Says:

I wonder if there is any significance to the location of the bombs being near a row of countries flags?

  16. Bubblehead Les Says:

Patrick, from my experience using Black Powder during my Re-Enacting Days, I’m leaning towards some kind of Blackpowder/Pyrodex load in the IEDs.

    But we shall see.

  17. Joe Huffman Says:

    @Patrick,
    Yes.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
