Made

Ever been made when carrying? Or made someone else? I did recently, snapped a shot:

I was made once that I know of.

  1. PT Says:

Off duty cops are the easiest to spot.

Cop haircut, full size gun printing easily under their clothes.

  2. Tam Says:

    Dunno.

(Of course, given the circles in which I run, I’m always a little taken aback when I find that someone isn’t carrying a gun.)

  3. wizardpc Says:

Heh. Those are the non-tactical tactical pants I like.

  4. LC Scotty Says:

Umm, I don’t see it, but I’m extraordinarily bad at this.

  5. Social Media Sebastian Says:

A couple times by BPD. Once by a good citizen who saw the print when I was picking up some dog poop with a plastic bag.

Usually was a function of how I was carrying. The slightly less accessible but flat against my back 4:30 o’clock position with an IWB holster made a full sized G22 disappear on me.

  6. Seth G Says:

    I don’t see it…

  7. paul B Says:

Looks like one of those NRA easy access shirts. Lots of bulges, but I too miss the print.

I like middle of the back, but injured my shoulder and had to change to AIWB. I think I like that postion more even though the barrel will cover important parts. Shoulder is better now so I can go to middle of back.

  8. Phillip Says:

Is it the magazine base plate that is visible in the right hip pocket?

  9. ZerCool Says:

I’m … not seeing it. Yeah, it’s one of the tear-away shirts, but I’m not seeing the print.

  10. SayUncle Says:

For those not seeing it, it’s due to the angle of the photo I think. But I noticed.

  11. Crotalus Says:

I give up. I don’t see a print, either. Maybe the bulge on the left side of the shirt, just above the belt? But I see no obvious silhouette.

  12. Bram Says:

I tend not to look at male backsides very closely.

  13. mikee Says:

I recall walking into a gun store in Baltimore, MD, and hearing this part of the conversation between the chiseled store clerk and the customer, a rather rotund police officer in uniform:

Fat officer: “But the .45 is so hard to conceal in civvies….”

Chiseled Clerk: “Well, losing a few pounds, exercising more, and getting clothes that really fit sure help with concealed carry. And even if you don’t carry off duty, it can’t hurt.”

Fat officer: “I think you just lost a sale.”

  14. breda Says:

This is the second manbutt photo in less than a week.

  15. Zermoid Says:

There’s a strange lump on his left hip area, but I wouldn’t say for sure it’s a gun, might just be something stuffed in the front trouser pocket.

  16. BobG Says:

I can see something in his right pocket that possibly looks like a buttplate.

Are you sure you’re not just taking beefcake photos for the ladies?

  17. Rob Reed Says:

Only time I know I got made was within the first couple months of when I started carrying. I was out with my wife and the place we were was well heated so I took off my sweatshirt while we were inside. Unfortunately, this also pulled up my T-shirt and exposed my pistol. A bystander saw and made a comment. It was a good learning experience. Now, if I have to adjust my clothes, I do so in the bathroom.

  18. Zermoid Says:

And as to the question, yes, once. That I know of anyway.
It isn’t all that unusual to see folks carrying here in PA so often nothing is said, I’ve spotted a few guns over the years and never said a word about it myself.
Luckily I wasn’t ‘made’ the one time we went to a rabbit show in NJ, it was an early departure after not much sleep and I honestly forgot I had a gun on me until the show was almost over. I don’t even want to think what kind of trouble that might have gotten me!

  19. Zermoid Says:

OK, I see the “Lump” on the right side now, but I couldn’t say for sure what it is, could be an eyeglass case for all i can tell.

  20. Sebastian Says:

Twice for me. Both times by little kids, who were in a better position to see.

  21. TomcatTCH Says:

lots of outdoor wear shirts look like that. Same with the pants. I’m not seeing anything that I KNOW is a gun. The zippered seam pocket looks to be a version that I haven’t seen before, but for some reason that’s become more common.

  22. teke Says:

The pants are an older version of Columbia.
I used to be able to get them cheap at Academy and have a few pairs myself.
I had to check and make sure it wasn’t me. But I don’t wear shirts that are that ugly.

I was thinking the hard line in imprinting from inside the zippered pocket based on the way his leg is.

  23. Jacob Says:

Why are you looking at another man’s butt? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

  24. The Duck Says:

Glad I’m not the only one not spotting it

I was made once for sure in a store that had not clearly posted, luck was with me as they did call the cops, but they had only seen the holster, and I was in my vehicle when the cop got there. I told him I had indeed been in the store, but I had left the gun in car, and had re-holstered just before he arrived, he couldn’t prove I hadn’t and let me go.

  25. Laughingdog Says:

So apparently, if you’re going to be around Uncle, you need to practice the phrase “My eyes are up here, Buddy”. 😉

  26. Seerak Says:

    What gun/mag has a sky-blue buttplate?

I think I was made once by a teenager with his mom in the ATM vestibule at my bank. His interest level in me visibly changed while I was finishing up at the machine. He said nothing, and I was out of there within ten seconds anyhow. The shirt was a bit open in the area of the G19 once I got back to the car.

  27. DirtCrashr Says:

I’m guessing it’s not a thigh-rig that holds three guns, but I’m not seeing it either.
I don’t have any shirts that require tucking-in – and you don’t tuck-in a Hawaiian shirt, its just not right.

  28. Cargosquid Says:

He’s carrying a NAA .22 in his sock.

Damn you’re good at spotting that!

  29. rickn8or Says:

I don’t worry so much about being made by a cop, I don’t think any of us concealed carrier people fool them.

My concern is these SoccerMommies™ that catch sight of enough of the weapon, and when they don’t see a badge on the bearer, go all PSH which brings the uniforms on a “man with a gun call”.

Somehow, the fact this death-ray assault-weapon was under a shirt in a holster never gets mentioned to the dispatcher.

  30. John Boch Says:

Someone’s got way too much time or likes looking at guys’ asses way too much.

Is this guy a threat? You don’t have to go apodyopsic on him to determine that.

  31. J Says:

I’ve been made once too. Unfortunately, I (inadvertently) made it worse. I was a hardware store putting 2x4s on my cart when I heard a woman in the next lane exclaim, “Oh my god HE’S GOT A GUN!” I immediately fanned my shirt and put my hand on my pistol as I turned toward her to see where she was looking so I could spot the threat. Of course, she was looking right at me.

    Doh.

  32. RC Says:

Clip on the outside of the belt, right hand side? I always thought that would be a give away, in the same category as the shoot me vest. Of course most of those are give aways are mostly only to other gunnies who arent likely to go all PSH on you, nor shoot you first or ever.

  33. Barry P. Says:

I haven’t been made yet, as far as I know. I confess, though, that I am often looking to see if I can spot guns on other folks, though. I know of a couple of guys, LEO’s, at church who, like me, are pretty much always carrying. As for the general public, checking folks out is part of my situational awareness routine.

  34. Daniel P. Says:

Guys, it’s in the right pocket.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
