Heller v. DC Analysis

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Over at SCOTUSBlog there’s some interesting analysis on the prep work that will be important in Heller v. DC (formerly Parker v. DC) in the coming months. It also talks about new book, which basically argues the Supreme Court can’t essentially settle this issue: Despite one possible implication of its title, this is not an […]

Bill Cavala – still a genius

Friday, July 20th, 2007

When last we saw ol’ Bill, he was busy pulling some major boners about how it would require an absolute criminal mastermind to figure out how to use a file. That was idiotic. Now, he’s both idiotic and a liar (but don’t rule out just plain stupid): The NRA et. al. filed lawsuits saying the […]

To Battle

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Breaking news: A D.C. television station is reporting that Mayor Adrian Fenty will appeal the Parker case to the Supreme Court.  The appeal hasn’t been filed yet, from what it looks like.  Prior coverage of Parker here. Update: More at scotusblog.

In one week

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

DC will decide if it wants to appeal Parker v. DC. At first, there was speculation that they would not because of the likelihood of failure and that failure resulting in massive future challenges of other gun laws. If they do not appeal, though, then DC will have to comply and allow its residents to […]

Suicide mission

Friday, June 29th, 2007

What say a bunch of us gun bloggers and readers pool our money and open a gun shop in Washington, DC? To open in August.

Webb says it was his gun

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Jim Webb’s staffer was arrested and detained for illegally having a gun in DC. There was question about whose gun it was: A senate staffer working for James Webb was busted trying to get a pistol into the senate building. It was the senator’s gun. I guess the senator was taking advantage of the recent […]

NFA Handbook Issues

Friday, June 8th, 2007

The new NFA handbook that I linked in the past is creating quite a stir in the NFA weapons community. Apparently, the handbook has some new rulings and those seem to be designed entirely to make the life of those who work with guns hard. Some examples from subguns.com: 1.) The outfit doing the parkerizing […]

Good

The NRA on Parker: Chris confirmed the NRA position is to do nothing which would damage Parker’s potential, nothing that would make the matter moot.

More on the DC Gun Ban

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Senator Hutchison’s presser: Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) introduced the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act of 2007, a bill to restore Second Amendment rights in Washington, D.C. “The constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens do not end when they cross into the borders of the District of Columbia,” said Sen. Hutchison. “The gun ban has […]

More Webbslingin’

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Over at Insty’s. I like how the Webb incident is shedding light on DC’s stupid, stupid gun laws. If this happened a couple of years back, there may not have been Parker v. DC.

another webb page

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Not sure I agree with this: I agree that Webb should get on the repeal DC gun ban issue pronto. I think congressional intervention would completely ruin any chance that Parker v. DC has of making it to the supreme court. For good or bad.

Like you and me, only better

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

A senate staffer working for James Webb was busted trying to get a pistol into the senate building. It was the senator’s gun. I guess the senator was taking advantage of the recent Parker v. DC decision? Nah, he’s one of the privileged who gets to disregard laws for little people. Anyway, if you’re just […]

Reading Brady Email so you don’t have to

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Rustmeister gets emails from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership. Seems they’re all spooked by Parker: Last week, a Federal Appeals Court overturned Washington D.C.’s long-standing restrictions on handguns — a decision that endangers all of America’s gun laws. This case is most likely headed to the U.S. Supreme Court and we have a […]

Too Easy

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Now that The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Ownership has a blog, their lies can be addressed in comments. I find it particularly amusing that, so far, every post I’ve read over there has significantly more pro-gun comments than anti-gun. Any way, Helmke is bleating about judicial activism in the Parker case. Have at thee. […]

Sore losers

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Round up of stupidery*: Helmke: The 2-1 decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Parker v. District of Columbia striking down the District of Columbia’s handgun law is judicial activism at its worst. By disregarding nearly seventy years of U.S. Supreme Court precedent, two Federal judges have negated the democratically-expressed […]

Score

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Met Bitter and Sebastian this weekend. Charming couple. Sebastian was rather quiet, which surprised since he won’t shut up on his blog. Apparently, the couple met via the comments section here at SayUncle. SayUncle: matchmaker. Speaking of charming couples, Glenn and Helen were there. Helen discusses meeting other bloggers. As an added bonus, the insta-couple […]

Quick, call a Waaaahmbulance

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Guess who: The 2-1 decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Parker v. District of Columbia striking down the District of Columbia’s handgun law is judicial activism at its worst. By disregarding nearly seventy years of U.S. Supreme Court precedent, two Federal judges have negated the democratically-expressed will of the […]

It’s a trap!

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

I mentioned how the mayor of DC may have put down the crack pipe and said the DC should drop its gun ban. In comments there, folks have opined that this is a trap and serves to either: 1) get everyone who unlawfully has a gun to register them so that the police can come […]

Gun links

Monday, July 17th, 2006

All linky, no thinky. Busy today but here’s some stuff: Gunner has a link to a nifty looking AK scope mount. I dig the Ultimak. Looks like the one gunner likes bolts to the gun to eliminate rocking and travel, which is a problem with most AK receiver mounts. The gun buyback in Memphis nets […]

SP v. Scientology

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Via Bitter, comes Parker and Stone’s official statement regarding the pulling of their Scientology episode: So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed […]

Second amendment predictions follow up

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Here, I talked about mine. TriggerFinger tackles the issue: We’re likely to see one of the two cases in the DC circuit at present before the Supreme Court. That will likely result in a ruling that proclaims an individual right. The question is how strong the decision would be; there’s little question that a correct […]

Pretty lame

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

A man in Massachusetts was arrested for taking an interest in his son’s education: The book, “Who’s in a Family?,” teaches preschoolers about “multicultural contemporary family units” including nuclear, intergenerational, mixed-race, and lesbian and gay arrangements. David Parker, father of a 5-year-old boy in Concord, Mass., was arrested Wednesday at his son’s kindergarten over a […]

Kelo v. New London: Today’s the day

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Today, the Supreme Court will hear the case of Kelo v. New London, which is arguably the most important property rights case in recent years. The Post Gazette has two articles on the issue. The first notes: It has been 50 years since the U.S. Supreme Court adopted an expansive view of the power of […]

Two in a row

Tuesday, July 13th, 2004

It’s a good day for your humble media watchdork. First, the article mentioned below about pit bulls and now this article, which is fairly factual with respect to the assault weapons ban. I share the sentiment of AWBansunset of being surprised at no mentioned of Uzis, AK47s, Rapid-fire, terrorist weapons, drug dealer weapons, etc.: Gun […]

Leftists are good for something

Monday, November 17th, 2003

Tom writes about the the Padilla case and quotes this article: But Judge Barrington D. Parker Jr. said he believed the power to designate a U.S. citizen as an enemy combatant rested with Congress, rather than the president. Giving such power to the executive branch with only limited review by the courts, he said, would […]
