In an update to the Wisconsin hunter murders: A man accused of opening fire on hunters who confronted him about trespassing, killing six of them and wounding two others, pleaded not guilty to the shootings Wednesday. Locals on Chai Vang

Wednesday, December 1st, 2004

In a record for me, the comments to this post are out of control and that’s considering that I’ve deleted about 15 of them for some generally offensive comments. I may have to shut them down. A comment there provides more information on the Chai Vang incident than the press is giving us. It is […]

Chai Vang has had charges brought against him: A Laotian immigrant accused of shooting several hunters in Wisconsin was charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder on Monday, authorities said.

Assault weapons ban round up – SKS and Chai Vang edition

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Local reporter Bob Hodge writes that the SKS is not an assault rifle: “By the literal definition of an assault weapon an SKS is not covered because it doesn’t have the function of being fully automatic,” said Ryan Patrick, one of the co-owners of Guns & More on Kingston Pike. “It wasn’t covered by the […]

More on Chai Vang

Sunday, November 28th, 2004

Drew at Darn Floor has the most detailed account of the Wisconsin hunter shooting that I have seen. It includes Vang’s and others statements to the police. As it stands, it would seem to me that he was taunted and even shot at. However, that action doesn’t warrant hunting down and shooting unarmed people in […]

Chai Vang’s weapon: Probably not an SKS after all

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

New info on Vang’s gun: Vang was later apprehended by Wisconsin DNR Warden Jeremy Peery. Vang was still in possession of his hunting gear, including back tag and also his rifle. The rifle was a Saiga SKS 7.62×39 caliber, serial number HO-3104079 I don’t know that there is a Saiga SKS. There is the new […]

Chai Vang Round Up

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

Kevin has a good piece on the VPC, England and more. Reasonable Nut on the alleged Hmong racism that may have lead to the shooting. He notes that it is odd that among 20 hunters, there was only one gun reported. If true, it shoots a rather sizable hole in the claim that the dead […]

Some one asked

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

What the most commented on posts to this site were. Well, the top 5 are: A round up of Chai Vang Me v. a trans-gendered bigot who complains about bigots #9 asks: Are Global Warming Skeptics Criminal? Me, birds, threepers, and douchebags! The only highly commented post that’s about guns: What gun controls will you […]

Gun round up

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

The VPC has kicked in to full blown hysteria mode on SKS rifles: SKS assault rifles like the one reported by police to have been used in an ambush shooting on Sunday, January 9, to murder one police officer and critically wound another in Ceres, CA, are a primary threat to law enforcement, the Violence […]

Dead men don’t have a side to the story

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

In an update to the hunter incident, the suspect (Chai Vang ) is claiming he was fired upon first after being called racially insensitive names. The suspect also has a history of waving guns around. The story just doesn’t jive. Triggerfinger thinks so too.

Gun Buyback Protesters Jailed

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Via David, comes this: Arguing that gun buy-backs “do not work, two Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County (LPPBC) officials were arrested this week during the city of West Palm Beach’s gun buy-back program, “Operation Cease Fire”. Two West Palm Beach officers told LPPBC Chairman Karl Dickey he would be arrested for trespass if he […]

NY mall shooting update

Monday, February 14th, 2005

In an update to this, New York has an assault weapons ban that mirrors the expired Federal ban. This article (sent by Robert) notes: Police said the gunman, armed with an assault-type rifle that’s legal to own in New York state, entered the Best Buy store from the parking lot of the U.S. Route 9W […]

Speaking of truth . . .

Monday, December 6th, 2004

The MMM/Brady Campaign are calling the NRA to Tell the Truth about Military-Style Assault Weapons. I’m not the NRA but the truth is that no new Military-Style Assault Weapons have been available to citizens since 1986. The assault weapons ban does not address Military-Style Assault Weapons but banned features that rifles that looked like Military-Style […]

VPC continues to dance in the blood of dead people

Wednesday, December 1st, 2004

VPC Press Release: “Armed hunters were no match for one person firing an SKS assault rifle,” said Kristen Rand, VPC legislative director. “This sad incident illustrates why the SKS is also a leading cop-killing rifle in America today.” Actually, there was one armed hunter who was probably shot first. And it likely wasn’t an SKS […]
