De facto registry

I’ve said it before (here and here). Rustmeister concurred. Now, he notes:

Now, from Red’s Trading Post comes this news on how the ATF is pushing gun dealers to adopt an automated system for their 4473’s.

Looking a bit more feasible now.

One Response to “De facto registry”

  1. Standard Mischief Says:

My buddy that works in a gun shop tells of BATFE visits where they haul in something like a personal copier or scanner and start imaging the 4473 forms.

Back in the BAT cave, I’ll assume that they OCR the records and make an illegal database out of them, Actually, I’ll bet that they just pass the records over to a private contractor (some sleazy one, perhaps Choicepoint) who compiles and creates the database (because the tobacco ninjas are specificity forbidden to do so, but there’s no prohibition of them buying data from a private company).

I’ll have to get my friend to sit for a blog interview sometime.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
