The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership and math.
The first pro-gun candidate for president is in, Bill Richardson. Funny that the first pro-gunnie is a Democrat. I’m not sure how pro-gun he is since he voted for the assault weapons, though rumors are he voted mostly for the crime bill. The NRA has endorsed him for Governor twice. That doesn’t mean much since they’re also recently friendly with anti-gunner Mitt Romney. Update: Whoops. The NRA was not friendly with Romney but the NSSF was. Thanks to Bitter for the clarification.
People are (again) calling for Bloomberg to be investigated for violating gun laws.

Not a bad idea. It’s like 911 goes digital.

NRA has not been friendly with Romney lately. Romney’s people called them and asked them to walk to SHOT Show with them. They did it as a feeler. They did him no favors and apparently didn’t even introduce him to people. It was NSSF – the industry association – that’s apparently been reaching out to him.

If I were to choose a Democrat, it would be Richardson. In fact, in a race between him and Guiliani (or even McCain) I’d be hard pressed to vote Republican. The only drawbacks to Richardson (who has recently signed pro-CCW bills into law) is that he’s a former Clintonoid and also a Democrat; even though his heart might be in the right place, all the warm bodies in his administration would be from the Loony Left.
Hackett dodged a bullet (pun intended) because he was a well-connected Democrat lawyer. If I or Uncle or some Hamilton County redneck had done what he did, we’d still be in jail.

See, thats the problem with the current system and why the efforts of many online RKBA 2nd AMendment activists to brand all sorts of politiicans anti RKBA simply based on their vote for the original AWB. Sure it was bad, but the underlying bill was too difficult not to vote for (which is why the anti gunners attacked it). A better indicator of intent is how they voted regarding whether to allow the AWB to be attached to the Crime Bill and then, of course, how they voted regarding whether to extend the AWB.
Richardson is fine by me. And certainly preferable to all the Rs who’ve thrown their hat in the ring so far.

It shouldn’t be too hard to confirm or deny that rumor. If memory serves, Congress held one vote to include the AW ban in the omnimus crime/pork bill, and a separate vote on the omnibus bill. Richardson could have voted no on the first round and yes on the second. I’m pretty sure that’s what then-House Speaker Tom Foley did.

Ron Paul is NOT anti-gun. Gunowners of America, which is more hardline on the RKBA than the NRA, considers him an ally. I think they quote him for an endorsement on their web-site.
He has opposed some anti-crime legislation that was supported by the NRA which he considered unconstitutional….hence someone may mistakenly think he was anti-gun for that reason. Although he ran and was elected as a Republican, he is basically a renegade of the party establishment, a Constitutionalist and Libertarian, so he would support all of the Bill of Rights for all the people; certainly including the 2nd.

I know, I just thought it was weird that Say Uncle ignored him, considering he is probably the most “pro-gun” of either party’s nominees. Doesn’t have a chance in hell, but he’s still principled.

I dunno. I voted for Nader in 2000 because both Bush and Gore were talking about God so much that I thought, “These guys don’t really want to be President. They’ll sell all their property and give the money to the poor and dedicate their lives to Christ. Might as well vote for the guy who wants to be President.”
Maybe if Ron Paul can find another 52 million or so flakes like me?
