Howdy

When my last blog digs went belly up, Uncle was kind enough to invite me over to continue my assault on the English language. He suggested I begin by introducing myself.

I hate introductions, so I’ll keep it short: I’m a New Yorker by birth, blood and breeding. Politically, I’m some kind of lefty libertarian. I have never pulled a Republican lever. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try to pry your guns from your cold, clammy hands. I have enough of my own.

Uncle opined that his readers like pictures of things going boom, so here’s a shot from last year’s fourth of July:

Happy July 4th from New York

Thanks to Uncle for the soapbox.

Fire! firefirefirefirefireFIRE! heh heh heh heh! Cool.

  2. SayUncle Says:

    Ooh, shiny.

  3. tgirsch Says:

You know, pdb, I was at the credit union the other day, and while the teller was counting out my money, I was doing the whole Beavis “Mmmoney! Yeah, heh-heh, mmmoney!” thing. The teller was too young to recognize a Beavis & Butthead reference, and thought I was being impatient.

    I’m getting old…

    Oh yes, and welcome, BH.

  4. _Jon Says:

    Welcome.

    “Lefty Libertarian”?
    — So you are de-motivated to protect collective rights? How does that swim?

Drawing on a recent post on RWN, what are your positions on these topics?
(Yes, yes, I need to do a post on this too. I figured I’d just hand you some controversial blog-fodder to set fire to…)

    — Abortion?
    — ANWR?
    — The Kyoto Protocol?
    — Iraq?
    — The International Criminal Court?
    — Allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons?

  5. Brutal Hugger Says:

Abortion – “USA out of my gf’s womb”

ANWR – I’d prefer to go nuclear, but failing that, I don’t get too excited about drilling. Oil companies who drill on federal land should pay fair value for that privilege.

    Kyoto Protocol – pass

Iraq – Wrong war at the wrong time for the wrong reasons. But we’re there, so we have to muddle through.

ICC- Legal training made my views on international law high falutin and complicated. Suffice it to say that the phrase “international law” doesn’t mean what people think it does. I’d vote against it.

Iran’s nukes – I’d guess Iran is not as close to nukes as they (or we) claim. I’d support military action to prevent a viable Irani nuke program. Hopefully that wouldn’t require invasion.

When I thought the Uncle was selling out… I thought he meant taking $$ for ads…. I guess we are going to start hearing about new “vegan bullets” (all others hurt the environment) or how Al Gore wouldn’t have been that bad of a President…. or how Hillary will be a great President!!! How many children did you kill in Waco Hillary and get away with it !!!!

Our freaking Marines are doing their job in Iraq, and they will get their asses reamed, but Hillary can call in the freaking tanks, because that church wasn’t ATF approved!!!!

    So let’s here it…. Hillary???

wrong war wrong place… What bile… How do you get Syria to pull their troops out of Lebanon?? Put 163,000 on their border… the same is true for Iran… You think they’d be talking with out our presence in Iraq??? Would Moamar Qudaffy have given up his nuclear program without a show of force (he knew he was next)… How many terrorist attacks would have happened in the US if we were not pinning those morons down in Iraq????

How about this mr wrong place wrong time…. We wasted how many lives in WW1 and WW2 saving Europes a$$…. Why bother???? Here is a little history lesson, four countries Germany, Italy, Korea and Japan, (among others) were freed with our blood, and have thriving economies, have freedom of religion, practicing democracies and have our troops in them today, by invitation!!!! What make Iraq any different, excpet that they are muslim???

I guess the middle east would be happy with Hitler and Mussolini as their leaders??? That would be the case if it were not for the good ol USA and England….

Go ahead, whine out some lying about WMD…. FDR ran destroyers against the Germans to provoke them, left our fleet vulnerable at Pearl Harbor, while we had cut off oil and steel to the Japs…. Gulf of Tonkin… JFK ( oh its ok for a Dem) Lusitania… Woodrow Wilson the ship was full of armaments!!!

Liberals, now that they are out of the womb, they’re pro choice…..

  7. Rustmeister Says:

Welcome, BH (I always thought that stood for BeerHunter, but what the hey)

I disagree with you on the war, but that’s because I’ve always seen it (Iraq) as a prelude to Iran/Syria anyway. Iraq was the only place we could go where the rest of the Arab world wouldn’t have a total meltdown (they wanted him gone, too). Now that we and our allies have Iran and Syria surrounded, they’ll hopefully go the way of Libya and Lebanon.

I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it.

  8. Rustmeister Says:

Oh, and I loved the pic.

  9. Brutal Hugger Says:

Whoa there, Spanky, if you’re going to rant incoherently, at least try to pretend you’re capable of handling simple punctuation. Dial down the ?!?!?!. Maybe dial up the meds.

I’ve never seen anybody blow a rod while *defending* government lies before. Talk about loving the nanny state!

As for abortion, do you shed a little tear every time you ovulate? What is the source of the magic that distinguishes the little clumps of cells that are trash from the ones that are super special? It’s all metaphysical nonsense to me.

Rust: I’m a terrible hunter. If beer didn’t come in neat little packages from stores, I’d die of thirst.

  10. Spank That Donkey Says:

Every point is valid, (it’s a “rant” when a Lib cannnot defend his own position) and as usual a Liberal cares not to discuss the facts of history… Just attack the messenger… You got you some nice Hillary/Bill credentials…

Will you be voting for Hillary Clinton if she is the Dem Nominee? (for the second time)

What kind of BS is this? “As for abortion, do you shed a little tear every time you ovulate?”

I guess you are going to “babble” about 1rst, 2nd, or 3rd trimester… Gee which one ends a human life after conception??? Hmm.. Gee I don’t know??? Tripe…

What is your opinion on our Marines doing their jobs, and your Liberal friends (if not you yourself) getting ready to “hang them out to dry” and in so doing further hurt our war efforts???? All in the name of supporting the troops…. Mistakes happen, contrast that with the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. Absolute intentional campaign against civilians. Those Marines did not go out that night to “smoke” a family.

Loving the nanny state??? from a Lib??? You take three distinct historical facts and try to blow it off with saying I like the Nanny state??? I am saying you and all Liberals are Hypocrits!!! Get it???

  11. Brutal Hugger Says:

I didn’t vote for Hillary in either the primary or general election. My future plans with regard to voting for her depend on who opposes her.

What’s so special about conception? Or trimesters for that matter?

I have no idea what you’re on about with this Marine stuff. I feel like I walked in on the middle of a conversation between the raving homeless guy and the squirrels in the park.

A government that lies to its own people in the pursuit of war is a huge case of nanny statism, not to mention the subversion of our national democracy. I’m not sure what about that point you misunderstood.

  12. Dave thA Says:

Been a long time reader, fan, linker and advocate.

Not interested in reading BH’s insults.

    Might be back some time.

  13. _Jon Says:

Well, into the fire, as they say. heh.
Hopefully STD doesn’t scare you away. I haven’t seen him comment here before.

One of the things I *really* enjoy about SU’s site is the good discussions and arguments I’ve participated (and lurked) in the comments. I’m not used to seeing so much hatred and “?!?!?”‘s – it’s usually well-reasoned positions and well-defended opinions.

The only topic I wanna touch on is the war. I agree we were lied to on at least one point. I’ve seen reference to 22 “whereas” clauses in the Authorization to Use Force (or Military Action – I can’t remember the exact bill that came out of Congress). I’m sure some of those 22 were wrong or outright lies. But I think it was a shrewd tactical move. As above, Saddam was a well-known “bad person”, so while they all gribe about it publicly, privately they like him gone. From a tactical perspective, having lots of military at that geographic location is a good, good thing. The entire area never had an “enlightenment period” and has been treated like a red-headed step-child by Europe in the after-math of the previous conquests. So, once again, we will go do what others won’t, even though most people agree “something should be done”. I don’t like W. But for once, I think he listened to his advisors and his Magic 8 Ball came up “Yes”. So here we are. I think it’s the right war, at the right place, at the wrong time. It should have been in 1991.
    Now I feel we are in a difficult situation wrt to Iran, as we no longer have the support at home to do what needs to be done there. If Iraq had been freed of Saddam 15 years ago, even if we installed “our dictator” – which is what our typical result has been for 50+ years – we would still have enough goodwill and support to attack Iran when they got aggressive and nucular. 🙂 Now, phht. We’re screwed. Some nation over there (pro’lly Isreal) is going to get nuked before anyone will say;
“Hey, America, could you uhhh… ya know, kinda help us out a bit here?”
    And that’s a shame.

btw, I’m kinda confused at the comments assaulting you for being a liberal. I thought you wrote that you were a “libertarian”. There’s a difference, right? heh

  14. Brutal Hugger Says:

I’ve been crawling around this site for a few years now. I expected some reaction to the “lefty libertarian” label, but not quite this level of vitriol. I don’t mind, though. I usually find such things amusing.

Improving Iraq and establishing democracy are good goals. I just don’t think they’re the best use of a bajillion dollars, tens of thousands of lives, and international goodwill. I would have preferred to spend these resources on buying off Hussein, finishing the job in Afghanistan, capturing Bin Laden, sitting on Iran and calming down North Korea.

But all that is irrelevant now. No matter how or why we ended up in Iraq, we’re there. We have to finish the job, which means we’re in for a long and bumpy ride.

  15. _Jon Says:

Yeah, I think we could have gone into a tiny country like Syria and we would have gone in without enough troops and botched the job. It’s the FedGov, it’s what they do….

  16. SayUncle Says:

Well, BH, I see they’re welcoming you aboard quite nicely 😉

  17. SayUncle » I see that’s going well Says:

[…] So, I let this lefty libertarian start blogging here and apparently some folks took offense to that. Not sure why. All he did was introduce himself and post a cool pic of an explosion. Then he was pounced on. Sort of uncalled for, if you ask me. If you disagree with someone, that’s cool. Let them know that by debating. But no need to stop reading (I’m still here) or accuse me of selling out. If I were to sell out, I’d do like all the other blogs and start playing technorati games by linking to the popular posts at the huge blogs. But that’s not my style. Never has been. I don’t buy ads. I don’t send mass emails (except on a rare occasion). I don’t do marketing. I made this site without any of that. My readers found me. And my readers range from conservative to liberal to libertarian to Libertarian to mild-mannered anarchists to moonbats. And I am cool with that. […]

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
