Delay says No, kitty!

Via Freedom Sight, we get this bit of good news:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is fighting an apparently doomed battle to extend her 10-year-old assault-weapons ban past its expiration date of Sept. 13. House Republican Majority Leader Tom Delay has vowed not to call a vote on the ban before Congress adjourns.

Now, I guess I’ll send some money to Delay. Reward good behavior, you know.

[…] Conflicting reports |By SayUncle| I told you that DeLay said that the Assault Weapons Ban will not be called up for a vote. Jesse Says:

It kinda worries me that Congress reconvenes on September 7th, just under a week before the AWB expires.

I’m dreading the thought that the media and anti-gun nutcases will be in full “OH MY GOD, CHILDREN ARE GOING TO DIE!!1 PLEASE, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!” mode and the first thing they’ll do when they come back is extend the damn thing.

I have to agree with Jesse..I just don’t see Congress or the President letting the AWB expire 2 months before the election.

Actually, the fact that the ban expires right before the election can work in our favor as well. If it expires, no one has to take responsibility — Delay can say it didn’t pass in the Senate, Frist can say it would never have passed in the House, and Bush can say it didn’t reach his desk. By contrast, if it is renewed, Bush pays for it in the election — people will not forget about the issue when the election is that close. Ditto politicians who are facing re-election this year. It’s an immediacy of consequences thing, and it’s much easier to share out blame for not doing something than it is to deflect blame for something you did.

We just have to make sure that the politicians understand there WILL be election consequences if they renew.

Reward somebody, but not Delay. He’s one of the most corrupt SOB’s in the Congress. I think he’s under investigation for violating Texas’ campaign finance laws, which you have to work pretty hard to violate.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
