Gun shot detection system IPO

ShotSpotter’s stock opens at $11 per share. I recall reading about their system a while back and that it wasn’t exactly accurate. Maybe that has changed.

This looks like a potent source of lobbying against removal of suppressors from the NFA. Or who knows? Maybe they’ll support gun owners – after all, they are a company wholly dedicated to making profit through the continued use of firearms.

The only thing Shotspotter is used for is to record conversations.
Every police chief trying to justify getting it says it’s GREAT!!!!!!, cops who are sent on calls from it call it “buggy” and confusing.

IIRC, Redwood City, CA was one of the first to use the system. Essentially worthless, was the conclusion, and they tossed it.

One of the factors that people don’t consider is that a useful response time for police is going to be on the order of 30 seconds or less, unless there is an ongoing firefight between gangs.
Care to guess where the cops are NOT going to show up very quickly? Bullets are flying, and you expect them to be enthusiastically driving there? They are going to be actively racing for last place, or at most mid-pack.

They are the clean-up crew, not a SEAL TEAM. It’s a JOB, people.

This is a solution in search of a GRANT. The findings are useless, something along the lines of 95% FALSE readings. Good play to short if you gamble in stocks.

Since when has something needed to be accurate or reliable to be purchased with public funds. this looks like a great way to double the value of my IRA

Shotspotter is us/ed here in Murdertown USA, AKA Wilmington. The fact that we’re nicknamed Murdertown should tell you how great it works.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
