This seems neat

Made by Shell Shock Industries, a two-piece casing that lightens the cartridge, can be picked up with a magnet, and is reloadable:

Neat.

I’ve been testing ammo with it. The casings work very well. They add about 3% to the internal volume, and allow higher pressure than brass. Very good lubricity for easy extraction, too. It’s counter-intuitive than the two-piece design would work, but it does.

From what I’ve read you need a fancy new die set to reload them. I haven’t ran across any of the casings or the ammo yet but it looks neat and would be a lot easier to pickup.

I hesitate to make this comment, but in the belief no anti-gun persons will ever see it on this blog: This cartridge design leads me to wonder if a similar design could be manufactured that would, purposefully, be single use only, with no ability to reload it. Fall apart or separate into nonreusable pieces upon firing and ejection from the gun. You know, for the children (TM) and all, so no ammo could be remade by people at home after a single use of the store-bought cartridge. Maybe even let it be designed to corrode or degrade to a point of non-usability within a short time, to stop long term storage of ammo. And of course, we should insist on the imprinting of a unique microscopic but ineradicable serial number on each and every component of the ammo, to allow tracking of the bullet to a cartridge to a buyer. And maybe have powder that rots in a week.

Berdan priming is bad enough; this sort of crap would be mandated in California if they thought of it.

    Excellent if it’s reloadable!

Until the physicists unravel the puzzle of magnetism and create a brass magnet, this will have to do. The features Oleg mentions make it interesting to get and experiment with. I hope the dies are not that much more expensive than the usual brass cartridges.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
