Violent crime rising

From CNN:

Violent crime is on the rise so far this year in major cities across the US compared to the number of homicides, rapes, robberies, assaults and shootings that occurred in the same cities by this point in 2015, a new report has found.

The midyear violent crime survey released Monday by the Major Cities Chiefs Association shows 307 more homicides so far in 2016, according to data from 51 law enforcement agencies from some of the largest US cities.

In addition to a large increase in homicides, major cities in the US have experienced more than 1,000 more robberies, almost 2,000 more aggravated assaults and more than 600 non-fatal shootings in 2016 compared to this time last year. The only category of violent crime not reflecting an increase when compared to last year is rape.

Given that violent crime has been on a steady decline since 1993, I’d say it’s reasonable to expect it to rise and fall from year to year. I was wondering where Trump was getting his stance on violent crime. Maybe this was it.

This is yet another instance of Trump saying something “everybody knows” is wrong, but when someone checks the facts it turns out he was right.

  2. TS Says:

I like that Trump says violent crime is in the rise. That makes the left finally admit that it has been declining for the past 20+ years like gun control advocates have been saying. Maybe Trump should go back to supporting “assault weapon” bans. I think the left is more anti-Trump than they are anti-gun.

I think crime is up because cops have said screw it. The day after the Dallas murders I was driving to Knoxville and passed to state troopers while doing 90. They never flinched. They have been getting involved a lot less all summer. Why risk engaging someone who might be a sovereign state BLM idiot.

  4. JTC Says:

So, about half of the increase in murders and shootings is in Chicago. They need some gun control there.

  5. JTC Says:

And the biggest percent increase was in Orlando. Which went from about zero to about zero and a half not counting the nightclub.

If the Donald didn’t mention that one nobody would, because ya know, muz. What do you bet if he couldn’t get a gun, that terr’ist would have been about as successful with a knife, a’la Japan disabled massacre.

Gun or knife, you kind of have to be shall we say, especially vulnerable and somewhat disabled, for that many people to get shot or knifed by one dude.

Erik points out why I love TN. The state troopers are there to help you. I’ve never seen a trooper with somebody pulled over, only locals seem to do that. And 90 is too fast. I wouldn’t go over 80 in most counties and even then nobody cares. I love it. I completely blew a stop sign once and got pulled over, called me in, not a criminal, “have a nice day and don’t run that stop sign.” Cop had somebody pulled over, I weaved traffic into fast lane to get around all the lookey loos, cop comes flying up behind me, puts his lights on, I move over one lane, pulls up beside me and wags his finger at me, cut his light off and guns it down the road.
I don’t think It has anything to do with recent events, Erik.
Why do people still live in those police control grid locations anyway? Bizarre. Of course Uncle’s county has been getting worse I hear, probably fed money in there if you checked.

  7. Manish Says:

I once got pulled over by a cop in Knoxville about 20 years ago. Nicest guy and super-friendly. I remember driving off thinking I’m glad he pulled me over. Needless to say he didn’t write me a ticket.

  8. mikee Says:

Fred, I-40 around Memphis is nationally famous for troopers who abuse forfeiture laws on out of state drivers.

  9. JTC Says:

Memphis and K-ville…left and right coasts of TN.

I think Fred’s talking about flyover TN, the real Tennessee.

Maybe you can’t go home again, but I’m glad Middle Tennessee is my home (Columbia, Lawrenceburg, Pulaski, even Spring Hill until Saturn’s Detroit immigrants effed it up, and don’t get me started on why Nashville is not TN in the same way that Miami is not FL and Austin is not TX).

  10. rickn8or Says:

mikee’s right about TSP and I’ll add Memphis and some suburb PDs. Shelby County Sheriffs seem to be okay though.

  11. Fred Says:

Knew about 40 west of Nashville. They only pull over out of state tags. The outrage is pretty bad but if they start pulling over in state folks watch out. We don’t tolerate that crap. That deal there is single handedly destroying the reputation of TN. It sucks.

  12. Fred Says:

Just remembered, last meeting some of us gun activists had with an in state senator and my county commissioner, somebody brought up the asset thing. Should have seen the senator shuffling around the “where does the money go?” questions. Aggravating.

Is Obama more of a Blood or a Crip?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
