Two CNNs in one

First, CNN admits that the political power of the NRA comes from people. Individuals. Members. You know, grassroots. And not as the arm of the gun lobby:

A CNNMoney analysis of federal campaign finance records shows that much of this money comes from everyday Americans. And these contributions, which the NRA uses to keep pro-gun lawmakers in office, are on the rise.

Some political funding comes from big corporations, many within the gun industry, which donate millions to the NRA. But companies are barred from donating to the NRAs political action committee, which the agency uses to fill campaign coffers, run ads and send out mailers for and against candidates.

On the anti-gun lobby, they say that they need money because they lack people.

Gun lobby? I never hear anything about the speech lobby, or the assembly lobby(1st), or the privacy lobby (4th), or the silent lobby(5th), etc, etc, you know, the other RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE in the Bill of Rights. If the government was trying to constantly force “common sense media laws” on CNN and others, wouldn’t they too become a supposedly radical lobby? What about ALL of the Bill of Rights ALL the time? Yep, that’s a lobby for ALL of us.

  2. Windy Wilson Says:

Common sense media laws might have saved a lot of embarrassment and trouble for Richard Jewell, the Olympics security guard who saw the suspicious backpack that subsequently exploded, and as part of the media circus of him as a suspect, was ridiculed by the media for living with his mother.

  3. Patrick Says:

Shocker: CNN is not above clickbait articles that pander to any side willing to increase page views for advertisers.

Also: Man Bites Dog. News at 11.

  4. DADvocate Says:

I’m one of those “everyday people” and proud to be so. I contribute as much as I can afford and give more to the NRA and any other organization. Because, Freedom.

  5. Ron W Says:

I have and do contribute to the NRA and GOA because I just want the government to obey the wording of the Constitution and to be left alone to exercise my rights, chief among them, the right to acquire, possess and carry the means of self defense. This threatens and imposes on no one, except criminal perps and paranoid ruling elites who want or attempt to engage in criminal or tyrannical acts against me or others.

  6. Sendarius Says:

I am a member of the NRA, even though they can do nothing for my gun rights here in Oz.

I see it as supporting Reagan’s “shining city upon the hill” – if the US falls to the international disarmament crowd, then it’s all over, for all shooters, everywhere.

  7. snoopycomputer Says:

Most news organizations don’t go deep enough into some corporate donations to realize that there’s a good segment of cash that comes directly from consumers and gets passed to NRA even though the check says “XYZ Corp”:
