Shouldn’t that be the norm?

The NYPD is doing a work stoppage. Mostly, seems to go unnoticed except in the city’s purse. But there’s this:

The Post obtained the numbers hours after revealing that cops were turning a blind eye to some minor crimes and making arrests only “when they have to”

That would be a good policy for all arrests. Not just during union temper tantrums.

    I dunno.

Vandalism isn’t something you “have to” arrest someone for, but it is something you should arrest someone for.

    Broken windows and all that.

  2. Richard Says:

Most of the time they follow orders. The problem is the people giving the orders. I can’t recall a mayor of NYC I did not regard with fear and loathing.

De Blasio is a socialist shit heel just as bad (and sometimes worse) than the rest of them, but in this case the police are making him look like the reasonable one.

    That’s not good.

Broken Windows is a fools errand when not supported by the mayor, especially, when he uses it to imply the NYPD is racist.

So, rationally, the rank and file are cutting back.

  5. Mike Says:

How do you expect them to act when their Mayor tells them that he’ll try to fire them and even imprison them for doing their jobs? When he tells them that he’s afraid they’re going to beat up or kill his own son? Why would any police officer do anything remotely risky for someone who treats them this way?

Now they cut off his revenue stream. That is what they are doing and more power to them. Besides, everything they do on a daily basis is to raise revenue for the city. Not that I have a problems with that. I live 2000 miles away.

  7. JimB Says:

New York City ultimately just gets what it deserves. The same people who cry “police brutality” will plead for more “police protection” when the cops just sit around and wait for calls instead of being proactive. Putting their ass on the line for DeBlasio is a fools errand

  8. Jeff Powell Says:

Eric Garner was murdered by the police. That is not “doing your job”

Anyone (cops included) should be imprisoned for murder.

I do however like the NYPD’s response of relaxing and not busting people for traffic violations etc

  9. Sid Says:

Eric Garner died because of his health condition. He resisted arrest and it cost him his life. The police did not decide to enforce the tax evasion law. They were told to enforce the tax evasion law. Use of force is implied in all police functions.

I don’t reflexively back the police. In this case, two officers were killed because community and elected leaders did not head off a lynch mob mentality.

  10. Richard Says:

I agree with Sid that murder did not occur. Though,if Eric Garner was murdered by anyone, it was Michael Bloomberg whose stupid law it was that the cops were trying to enforce.

  11. Mike Says:

Did you watch the video of Garner’s arrest? NYPD did not murder him. Perhaps Hostess did.

I have no problem holding police officers accountable for misconduct. I have no problem finding and rooting out racism in law enforcement. Garner’s case — if you look at the facts, rather than the narrative — was neither.

  12. Burnt Toast Says:

Every stupid law should be vigorously enforced to include use of lethal force in making arrest (if needed).

If the lawmakers (and the voters who support them) think a loose cig is worth a human then so be it and quit pretending it’s a free society.

  13. dustydog Says:

The police showed depraved indifference in not helping Garner. They did not provide lifesaving aid. Their history of arresting people for interference with police unquestionably prevented passersby from rendering aid.

I concur that their behavior is only as bad as letting veterans die on waiting lists, or letting prisoners die in jail by refusing them medical care. But it is still murder.

  14. Mike Says:

@dustydog: Did you watch the video? When exactly did NYPD show depraved indifference?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
