why would you take it to an ffl and ship to them, you aren’t transferring, and it should be able to come back directly to you, you already own it.

  2. Dragon Says:

Because until I get my letter to ATF answered, thatsthe easiest (and cheapest) way to ship to me.

While the direct ship is allowed for *service to a weapon* (ie: you ship your Kimber direct to them, they service it and send it directly back) I’m awaiting clarification to see if building a custom holster for the handgun qualifies as providing an *accessory*, in which case if ATF affirms, then folks can ship direct to me, and I can return to them directly, without the need for FFL involvement.

Until I get clarification from ATF and not the InterWebz, its my ass on the line if I violate the regs, so I’m playing it safe until I hear otherwise.

Ah, gotchya. Good luck, I can see it going much better if people can ship direct to you.

And watch out, you will get one that is loaded in a shipment, it will happen at least once.

  4. Dragon Says:

    Thanks!

And yes, I fully expect that in getting anything shipped in, be it a transfer for a customer, a consignment, etc., someone will eventually ship a loaded weapon. 😛

  5. Dragon Says:

    Well, that was easy…

Along with the letter, I placed a call to the Industry Operations division. Posed the question, and for once the InterWebz was right…handguns can ship direct to me for purposes of either repair or accessory, I can make a holster, then ship back directly, no FFL involvement on the return trip to the original owner.

Gotta update the website tonight…. 🙂

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
