Wet and dry

A map of counties in the US that restrict alcohol sales. I think the colors should be switched.

…I’m sorry…explain to me how they have ZERO data on any county in Georgia…?!?!?!

This comes from a UK website? To help Brits plan their US vacations, I presume?

And the editors probably realized just before press time that their intern looked up the liquor laws in Georgia the Central European country rather than the state, so left our GA blank. Happens all the time on Google.

The Arkansas meth problem is becoming clearer…

How is Texas partially dry in most places? We’ve got dry counties, but alcohol is not banned.

  6. Keith Says:

WOW, Cook Coounty Illinois isn’t really partially dry. They just need to control which crony is getting the contracts and who offers the best kickbacks…sorry, meant campaign contributions.

Ahh… Rosebud and Pine Ridge Indian Reservations in South Dakota (if anyone was wondering why there was one red county in SD). But I wonder if the map is wrong, or at least was constitutes control. I was surprised to see Indiana was blue. Indiana bans alcohol sales on Sundays so I would have figured Indiana would be yellow.

Interesting. I see Washington County NY is under “partial” control, but that’s not at the county level: One town in that county, Argyle, bans the sale of alcohol. That’s it. You can buy booze in Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, Salem, Cambridge, Greenwich, Granville, etc. To be completely correct, Washington county should have just a single yellow pixel in the middle, and the rest blue.

/Argargle is a dinky little town.

They show the county I’m living in in NH as partially dry. Don’t have any idea what that could be based on as I don’t know of any regulations at any levels that restrict the purchase or usage of alcohol.

    Interesting thing to research.

I think I missed something, either that or my detector is borked. Why should the colors be switched?

    blue laws

@ Keith, I think they must be referring to the various dry wards within the city of Chicago (mostly on the South Side). A lot of good they do, considering wards aren’t all that big, geographically speaking.

  13. Smince Says:

The entire state of Georgia is in flux right now because the state legislature just made it legal for local municipalities to pass ordinances allowing Sunday alcohol sales, and they are slowly doing just that. I’m guessing that’s why they left the entire state blank for now.

  14. PT Says:

Um how is Michigan partially dry / yellow?

We sell booze in any store that wants a liquor license except from 2am-6am daily. There is really no increased security about selling it. Show your ID and you’re on your way. I also think they just did away with restrictions on selling booze on Sundays

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
