  1. Weer'd Beard Says:

not sure if this is a 4th Amendment violation or not.

Still its all the reason to pass HR822 to get this thrown out on harassment suits.

  2. Bubblehead Les Says:

So how many new Jails are they going to build, or are they just gonna fence in Brooklyn and the South Bronx?

  3. Alexander Says:

Looks like almost useless idea. 3-4 feet max distance? It’s cheaper and easier to search for a gun with hands.

Follow the money. The main reason we have nude scanners in airports is because Chertoff works for Rapiscan.

  5. JDS Says:

Remember how cool this was when we saw it in Total Recall? Yeah, not so much in real life.

I’m with Les. Let’s just build a wall around Manhattan Island, and call it Alcatraz Atlantic. I’m sure Bloomberg would squee with delight.

  6. John Smith. Says:

Not sure how popular the cops having X-ray vision will be on the street… I can already picture the cops viewing big breasted women and trying to determine if they are wearing thongs or nothing at all…

  7. 45er Says:

Yay for getting shot over a smart phone or iPod. Go team NYC!

  8. Mu Says:

Terahertz radiation also is blocked by water, so don’t sweat in the wrong shape.

  9. Stuart the Viking Says:

“Awe comeon guys. Don’t you know that the prols don’t deserve their 4A protections. After all, they are just the little people… barely human!” NYC GOV.*

    disgusting!

*note: not a real quote, but might as well be one.

  10. Robert Says:

Next on sale in NYC. Coats that block TH radiation.

  11. Phenicks Says:

Next at NYC, laws blocking the sale of coats that block TH radiation.

  12. Ferret Says:

I’m sure the first test case will be the entry points of some major sporting venue.

  13. HL Says:

When will people up there have enough of this?

  14. Matt in AZ Says:

I cannot believe that legally armed citizens would put up with this shit. Fourth amendment can suck a court-ordered slice of peaness thanks to this beauty. Yes, I do not doubt the ability of the this tech, hell I helped it along in a former life. The same people that brought us radar and microwave ovens have now learned how to tune freqs and recognize the bounce back. You just “tune” for the object in question, the rest of the energy passes through the soft body and the hard metal object bounces the signal back. Don’t matter if it is emf, rf, or audio freqs. The Man is getting old, NYC is old news, and BLOOMBERG is the tyrant that our forefathers warned us about. HOLYSHIT, how many people will be accosted because their Ipwnds look like .38 specials? Why does a middle-class man just short of fourtey feel so alienated in my own country

The reason we have these in airports and will have them on our streets is the government taking preventative measures to ensure they know who is carrying precious metals at all times. When the dollar collapses and they have exhausted pensions and retirement accounts they will attempt to prevent a massive black market, else risk being irrelevant. The shoe bomber nor the underwear bomber would have been caught by the x-ray scanners, or so says popular mechanics:

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
