Even more knife stuff

Caleb looks at the defensive knife course offered by Insights training.

Joe concurs that the course is worth it and says I told my kids they couldn’t go out on a date until they took the class. Awesome.

Meanwhile, other more enlightened countries flip out over a tool.

Remember that the guy who “wins” a knife fight is the one who dies the next day from his wounds. I’ll take a gun fight any day, but we must carry blades and be prepared to use them as well.

Start here if you’re getting serious about edged-weapon training, you won’t be diasappointed:

Janich also has an excellent basic cane fighting system. He tends to dispense with the sensei mysticism and get down to nuts-and-bolts that work for regular guys and not just Mikey-martial-arts-maven. Simple, short routines to hard wire into your brain.

  2. Joe Huffman Says:

Insights trainers have sometimes described the class as “Jujitsu repellent”. A knife is something you use to get away from contact distance so you can more easily run away or deploy your gun.

Joe nails it – in the DFK 1 the instructor actually said that it was an “anti-grappling glass”; pointing out that the most effective use of the knife in self defense isn’t to kill but as an escape tool.

  4. SteveA Says:

Yep, the knife is a “Get them off you!” tool, that allows you to deploy your other tool,”firearm”, to stop the threat.

Well that explains the jump in traffic today. Thanks!

“Yep, the knife is a “Get them off you! tool”

That’s actually what I call my EDC defensive knife, it’s my “get off me” knife.

I took the Insights class many years ago. It was great.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
