Firearms safety rules

Good for staple guns too:

It was a blustery day in late October 2006 and Christopher Onseti, a New Jersey Transit police officer, was at a shooting range in Stafford Township. He was familiar with the range, and had already completed at least one firearm test there.

As he was preparing to shoot, a burst of wind tore a Q-shaped target from its wooden post. Onesti picked up a staple gun and tried to reattach the target — and what happened next could end up costing state taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Onesti, 27 at the time, accidentally fired a staple into the base of his left ring finger, records show. He put a Band Aid on the wound and successfully completed the tests. But after two operations Onesti says he still can’t do his job, and is now one of a record number of public employees across the state seeking an accidental disability pension for life.

Really?

I was working a jobsite one day when the carpenters and the drywall crews went at it with nail guns. I was caught in the cross fire. I don’t like talking about it….

  2. mita Says:

Oh, please. They could amputate that finger and he could still “do his job”

    Give me a break.

  3. mita Says:

Actually! If they HAD amputated the finger and then told him he couldn’t work, he’d probably be suing because he lost his job.

  4. GD Says:

He was able to complete the qualification with just a band-aid… maybe he should have left it at that and avoided the surgery.

I remember, a long long time ago, in 3rd grade, I stapled my finger. That I dealt with it more maturely than a real live police officer is… sad really.

  6. TIM Says:

I don’t know how the hell he stapled his finger in the first place.I mean it was a staple gun!!!!!!

  7. mikee Says:

In New Jersey the state knows the capabilities of its own citizens so well that it requires professionals to pump the fuel for drivers at all gas stations.

And to see how he stapled himself, watch some old Three Stooges or Tom & Jerry on TV, eventually you will get the gist of how to do it, even with a staple gun.

Forget it, Uncle, it’s New Jersey. Find a sinecure and dig in.

Aren’t there a couple of railroads and state agencies in NJ and NY where there are more people on medical disability than actually working employees?

  9. Robert Says:

Nationwide, so many Fire and police chiefs get “disabled” in the last year before retirement that they actually call it “Chiefs Disease.”

Work for the government: set for life.

Meanwhile, Soldiers, Sailors, AirMen, and Marines who got Legs blown off in Iraq and Afghanistan are going back into the Fight….

  11. Bram Says:

I live in NJ and have no idea what a “Transit police officer” does. Ride trains?

  12. MrSatyre Says:

Remind me to get a job in NJ.

  13. Lyle Says:

I’ve staple-gunned a finger or two myself. Big freaking deal. But that’s not the point of course.

The point is, there’s a big, giant coercive redistribution gravy train and we all want our share of the booty.

And you all thought it was about “public service” or some such bullshit. Suckers.

  14. r3VOLutionist777 Says:

Why should this surpise? Cop are just over-paid, under-worked parasitical tax-feeders like any other government employee. They always take any opportunity to milk the tax-payers.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
