Super best friends

I’ve searched my copy of the constitution and find no mention of this super committee business. An even more elitist group of elitists picked by elitists from elitists. It’s not good.

All those with Ds after their name get an F from the national taxpayers union.

The bill also gives the President the power to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling and then Congress must pass a “resolution of disapproval” of his actions.

They’ve turned the legislative process on its head.

How about Article 1, Section 5?

“Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

It’s just a committee. The Congress under the Constitution has had them for over 200 years, and every United States and Continental Congress before that had them as well. Hell, committees are even specifically mentioned in the Articles of Confederation. No use getting worked up over how they’re grinding the meat for the sausage, I’m still pretty sure none of us is going to want to eat it.

After all, there are bigger problems with the law that established the committee. I agree with Mike W: I’m not sure Congressional delegation of spending limit authority (Title 3 of Public Law 112-25) is permissable under the US Constitution. The 14th Ammendment notwithstanding, only Congress has the power “To borrow Money on the credit of the United States” (Article 1, Section 8).

The committee selection should have been the Dems choose the Repub memebers and the Repubs choose the Dem members. There would have been at least a slight chance of something of value coming out of that stupidity.

This is just going to be a lot of yelling and pointing fingers and pissing in the wind.

IMHO, the DemaCommies have already won the Budget Battle. Consider who’s on the Committee. Consider that it takes a 7-5 Majority to get the cuts out of Committee. Consider that, if the Republitards even THINK about touching Clyburn’s and his buddies pet Socialist Policies, they all vote “No”, and then the Automatic Cuts go into effect. Consider that HALF of the Automatic Cuts come from the D.O.D., and the other half from the rest of the Gooberment. At best, the Republitards can only hope to save some Pork (albeit reduced) for THEIR Cronies. AND this whole thing coming to Votes at the Thanksgiving/Christmas Holiday period?

Karl Marx is dancing with Joy in Hell.

It is not the members but the rules that make the committee interesting. If the legislature fails to pass the legislation proposed, automatic cuts (real cuts, not decreases in growth rate) occur. It has been hypothesized that the Democrats are trying to get this to occur, in order to obtain the hamstringing of the US military, at the cost of blaming the cuts in Medicare on the Republicans.

I look forward to the statesmanship of John Kerry and the innate fiscal responsibility of the other Dems, leading the way to a golden age for the US economy. I also expect a unicorn in my back yard tomorrow.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
